Description: Cubs left-hander Travis Wood had a nice first outing, throwing two perfect innings Thursday versus Oakland.
Insight: Wood was 8-13 last season with a high 5.03 ERA and 1.53 WHIP, but the Cubs and fantasy owners are hoping he can return to his 2013 form (3.11 ERA, 1.145 WHIP).

3/2/2015 3:38:00 PM
Description: Cubs left-hander Travis Wood will have to beat out both Tsuyoshi Wada, and Edwin Jackson for the final spot in the Chicago starting rotation.
Insight: Wood was 8-13 last season with a high 5.03 ERA and 1.53 WHIP. Those numbers shouldn't get you a spot, so it's understandable that he'll have to earn it this spring.

8/31/2014 7:15:00 PM
Description: Cubs left-hander Travis Wood struggled against the Cardinals on Sunday, allowing four runs on six hits in four and 2/3 innings. He tossed up two home runs, walked three and struck out two.
Insight: The poor start is a bit disappointing because Wood threw three shutout innings against the Reds in his last appearance. Wood received a no-decision. He is 8-11 with a 4.81 ERA in 161 innings this year.

8/26/2014 10:45:00 PM
Description: Chicago left-hander Travis Wood fired six scoreless innings of two-hit ball Tuesday at Cincinnati to improve to 8-11.
Insight: It was Wood's first win since June 15. He's recorded a 3.07 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP in August but still has a 4.72 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP on the season.

8/10/2014 6:35:00 PM
Description: Chicago left-hander Travis Wood threw his best start since June 15 Sunday against Tampa Bay, allowing one unearned run on four hits in six innings.
Insight: Wood had a 3.11 ERA in 200 innings last season, but he's regressed horribly in 2014. In 139 innings, he's posted a 4.86 ERA and a 1.53 WHIP.

Hot6/15/2014 4:26:00 PM
Description: Chicago left-hander Travis Wood was excellent Sunday in a win against the Phillies.
Insight: Wood (7-5, 4.48 ERA) limited Philadelphia to three hits over eight shutout innings. He's won his last two starts, compiling a 1.84 ERA during that span.

5/8/2014 9:30:00 AM
Description: Cubs starter Travis Wood didn't have anything Wednesday against the White Sox.
Insight: Wood walked five batters and allowed eight runs on eight hits in four innings. His ERA rose from 3.35 to 4.75. The left-hander has a .341 BABIP this season, which is one of the reasons he's allowed 48 hits in 41 2/3 innings.

4/10/2014 9:01:00 PM
Description: Cubs starter Travis Wood already has 17 Ks in 12 1/3 innings this season.
Insight: Wood had a 3.11 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP in 200 innings last season but only struck out 144 batters. In fact, he had a 6.8 K/9 in 564 2/3 career innings prior to this season. He's gotten a much higher percentage of swings and misses on his four-seamer and cutter in his first two starts this season than he did last year.

9/27/2013 6:41:00 PM
Description: Cubs starter Travis Wood will only throw one inning Friday against St. Louis, according to Jesse Rogers of ESPNChicago.com.
Insight: That will allow Wood to reach 200 innings for the first time in his career. This is disappointing news for fantasy owners counting on one last start from the left-hander, who has gone 9-11 with a 2.98 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP this season.

9/21/2013 9:39:00 PM
Description: Cubs starter Travis Wood shut down Atlanta Saturday, allowing one run on five hits over seven frames in a no decision.
Insight: Wood has won just nine games with 11 losses and 11 no decisions this season despite posting a 2.98 ERA over 199 innings.

9/9/2013 10:08:00 PM
Description: Cubs starter Travis Wood limited the Reds to six hits over seven shutout innings Monday at Great American Ball Park.
Insight: Wood fanned seven hitters without allowing a free pass. He's won two of his last three outings (1.71 ERA in those starts).

8/12/2013 10:51:00 PM
Description: Chicago lefthander Travis Wood was a tough-luck loser Monday versus Cincinnati.
Insight: Wood (8 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 5 K's) pitched well but fell to Mat Latos in an epic pitcher's duel at Wrigley Field. Despite having a losing record, Wood's 3.00 ERA is the lowest of his career and good for 15th-best in the National League.

7/28/2013 9:41:00 PM
Description: Cubs starter Travis Wood allowed one unearned run on four hits over seven innings in a win over the Giants Sunday.
Insight: Wood has had a tremendous season, posting a 2.79 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP, but he's just 7-7 due to a lack of run support. Five of those wins came over the first two months of the season.

6/7/2013 9:36:00 PM
Description: Cubs starter Travis Wood took a tough-luck loss Friday against the Pirates despite allowing one earned run on four hits in six innings.
Insight: Wood is 5-4 with a 2.65 ERA and a 3.50 FIP this season. As usual, he has a high flyball rate, but unlike last season he has kept the ball in the park. His HR/FB is just 5.1 percent.

5/30/2013 6:39:00 PM
Description: Here's something you don't see everyday. Cubs lefty Travis Wood pitched six innings for the win and also went 2-for-3 with a grand slam Thursday against the White Sox.
Insight: The home run was Wood's second of the season and the fifth of his career. Meanwhile, on the mound he's gone 5-3 with a career-best 2.75 ERA in 11 starts. It's a good day to be Travis Wood.

Hot5/2/2013 6:40:00 PM
Description: Cubs starter Travis Wood has thrown a quality start (6 innings or more, three earned runs or less) in all six turns this season.
Insight: Wood dropped to 2-2 after losing a 3-2 game against the Padres Thursday, but he allowed just four hits and a walk in 7 2/3 innings. Wood has a 2.50 ERA and a 0.91 WHIP in 39 2/3 innings after posting a 4.27/1.20 season in 156 innings in 2012.

4/4/2013 6:55:00 PM
Description: Cubs starter Travis Wood fired six scoreless innings of one-hit ball Thursday against the Pirates and picked up his first win of the season.
Insight: Wood had a 4.27 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in 156 innings for the Cubs last season, though he benefited from a .244 BABIP. His FIP was 4.84.

7/22/2012 6:10:00 PM
Description: Cubs starter Travis Wood has allowed 14 earned runs on 17 hits in 10 2/3 innings over his last two starts.
Insight: Wood won four straight starts from June 19 to July 6 but he's slipped up in his past two outings. The lefty doesn't have much upside and shouldn't be owned outside of the deepest of mixed leagues.

Hot7/17/2012 10:18:00 AM
Description: Cubs starter Travis Wood is just 4-3 this season, but he's been very good in his last four outings - all wins.
Insight: In Wood's last four starts, he's got a 1.01 ERA and 0.975 WHIP. He's only faced Miami once in his career with poor results, but that was in April 2011. He's a different pitcher now and on a roll. If you need a replacement starter due to injuries, Wood is a very nice option.

7/6/2012 11:44:00 AM
Description: Pitching for the Cubs, starter Travis Wood likely doesn't get a lot of attention, but he's pitched very well lately. Over his last three starts he's 3-0 with a 0.44 ERA and 0.822 WHIP
Insight: Wood (3-3, 3.05 ERA) could be a useful fill in, but will need to improve his SO/9 (6.3) if he wants a full-time fantasy gig.
