(Sports Network) - Right-hander Marco Estrada aims for a series sweep - and
his first victory of the season - today when the Milwaukee Brewers host the
Chicago Cubs in the finale of a three-game weekend series at Miller Park.
In Saturday's middle game, Edwin Maysonet's first career grand slam
highlighted a five-run sixth inning, helping the Brewers down the Cubs, 8-2.
Shaun Marcum (2-1) fanned six and allowed a run on three hits and two walks
over seven strong innings.
Travis Ishikawa had two doubles and scored a pair of runs for Milwaukee, which
has won three of its last four.
Tony Campana had two hits, including an RBI double for Chicago, which has
dropped 10 consecutive games in Milwaukee.
Chris Volstad (0-5) surrendered just four hits through the first five innings,
but was touched for five of them in Milwaukee's five-run sixth.
Meanwhile, Estrada began the year in the bullpen and made five appearances in
relief with a 3.00 earned runs average before jumping into the rotation when
starter Chris Narveson went down for the year with a knee injury.
He's 0-2 in three starts while allowing 17 hits and 11 runs in 18 innings as
his ERA swelled to 4.50.
Estrada has made five relief outings against the Cubs and has allowed eight
runs on six hits in 6 1/3 innings.
Chicago goes with another former reliever, right-hander Jeff Samardzija, who
starts against the Brewers for the second time.
The former Notre Dame football player made 123 of his first 128 big-league
appearances from the bullpen - including 75 last season - but has taken well
to starting in 2012 while winning four of five decisions.
He tossed seven innings of one-run ball for victory No. 4 on May 7, defeating
Atlanta, 5-1, with two walks and seven strikeouts.
He's 2-2 with a 4.84 ERA in 22 1/3 innings against Milwaukee.
Milwaukee won 10 of the 16 meetings last season with the Cubs and took three
of four in a series at Wrigley Field this year from April 9-12.
