(Sports Network) - Former first-round pick Rick Porcello tries to end a two-
start skid tonight when the Detroit Tigers host the Kansas City Royals in the
initial game of a weather-impacted series at Comerica Park.
Monday's game was postponed due to rain and will be made up Sept. 24.
Porcello, the 27th overall pick of the 2007 draft, began the season with a win
and a no-decision in two starts while allowing 12 hits and three runs in 14
2/3 innings against Tampa Bay and Chicago.
He's 0-2 in a pair of outings since, including a one-inning shelling against
Texas in which he was raked for 10 hits and nine runs in a 10-4 Tigers loss.
Five days later on April 26, he gave up five runs on seven hits in 6 2/3
innings of a 5-4 loss to Seattle.
Porcello is 4-2 in 11 lifetime starts against Kansas City with a 4.70 earned
run average in 67 innings.
Kansas City counters with 28-year-old righty Luke Hochevar, who looks for a
third win in four decisions this spring.
The former No. 1 overall draft choice - 2006 - won a career-high 11 games in
31 starts last season and opened 2012 with a defeat of the Los Angeles Angels
of Anaheim in his initial start on April 7.
He was beaten by the Cleveland Indians for his lone loss six days later, but
returned to beat the Indians on April 25 after allowing two runs on four hits
in 6 1/3 innings.
Hochevar is 4-4 in 11 career meetings with the Tigers with a 5.25 earned run
average in 61 2/3 innings.
Detroit recently swept the Royals in three games from April 16-18 in KC.
