American League Game Summary - Minnesota at Kansas City

(Wednesday, July 30)

Final Score: Kansas City 3, Minnesota 2

Kansas City, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - Alex Gordon provided the go-ahead RBI double as the Kansas City Royals used a sixth-inning rally to top the Minnesota Twins, 3-2, in the middle test of a three-game set on Wednesday.

Gordon finished 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run scored and an RBI, while Salvador Perez and Mike Moustakas each hit an RBI double for the Royals, who bounced back from a 2-1 loss in the series opener on Tuesday.

Jason Frasor (2-1) earned the win after recording a strikeout to get the Royals out of a bases-loaded jam in the sixth. Starter Danny Duffy gave up one run on four hits and six walks in 5 2/3 innings.

"Frasor was huge coming in with the bases loaded to get us out of that jam," said Royals manager Ned Yost.

Josh Willingham homered and Danny Santana drove in a run for Minnesota, which had its two-game win streak come to an end. Starter Phil Hughes (10-8) was tagged with the loss after allowing three runs on seven hits over six frames.

The Twins opened the scoring in the second after Willingham led off the frame by crushing an 0-1 fastball to left.

Minnesota failed to add more runs in the fourth and sixth innings. Brian Dozier and Willingham both walked with one out in the fourth. They pulled off a double steal, but Dozier was thrown out at home on the play and Willingham was left stranded at third after Trevor Plouffe grounded out.

Duffy's outing ended in the sixth after he loaded the bases off a single by Dozier and a pair of walks by Sam Fuld and Kurt Suzuki. Frasor took the mound and got Chris Colabello to strike out to escape the jam.

The Royals responded in the home half with a trio of RBI doubles from Perez, Gordon and Moustakas to take a 3-1 lead.

"It seems like every bad game I've had there's been one bad inning," Hughes said.

Chris Parmelee doubled off Scott Downs to open the seventh. Eduardo Nunez greeted Kelvin Herrera with a base hit to right. With runners on the corners, Santana's line-drive single to left made it a 3-2 game.

Fuld's sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second and third, but they were left stranded after Herrera fanned Dozier and Willingham to keep the lead intact.

In the ninth, Nunez took a one-out walk and moved to second on a wild pitch by Royals closer Greg Holland, but the closer fanned Santana and Fuld to nail down his 28th save of the season.
