American League Game Summary - Seattle at Minnesota

(Sunday, May 18th)

Final Score: Seattle 6, Minnesota 2

Minneapolis, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - Felix Hernandez fired eight innings of two-run ball, Robinson Cano posted four hits an RBI and two runs scored and the Seattle Mariners beat the Minnesota Twins, 6-2, in the finale of a three- game set.

Hernandez (5-1) fanned five and surrendered seven hits and a walk, while Michael Saunders smacked an RBI triple among his two RBI and pair of hits to go with a run scored for Seattle, which snapped a four-game losing streak.

"With that guy over there, you have to play perfect baseball," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said of Hernandez. "We didn't do that."

Ricky Nolasco (2-4) allowed three runs on six hits and three walks over five frames for the Twins, who had won five of their last six games coming in.

The Twins led 2-0 through three innings of play, but Seattle plated a run in the fourth, two more in the fifth and another in the sixth, seventh and ninth innings to surge ahead.

Cano led off the fourth with a single and after Corey Hart walked, Cano went to third on Justin Smoak's lineout to right. Kyle Seager then singled into left-center to bring Cano home and cut the deficit to 2-1.

James Jones singled to start the fifth and stole second before scoring when Saunders laced a triple down the right-field line. Cano plated Saunders following his double into center for a 3-2 Seattle cushion.

Saunders hit a sacrifice fly to right in the sixth, Smoak belted an RBI double in the seventh and Cano scored on a wild pitch in the ninth to extend the margin to 6-2.

Earlier, Trevor Plouffe's two-run single in the third staked Minnesota to a 2-0 advantage.

"I made one mistake," Hernandez said. "I left that slider a little bit up against Plouffe and he got that hit."

Game Notes

Cano extended his on-base streak to a career high-tying 26 games ... Seattle was 3-for-16 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base, while the Twins finished 1-for-5 with RISP.
