Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - DJ LeMahieu had two hits, including a go-ahead
RBI single, Jeff Francis pitched five effective innings, and the Colorado
Rockies held off the Arizona Diamondbacks, 2-1, in the season finale for both
teams at Chase Field.
Francis (6-7) allowed just one run on five hits and struck out three while
walking one to earn the victory.
Matt Belisle retired the final batter in the ninth to strand the tying run at
third and pick up his third save of the year for Colorado (64-98), which
finished the season by taking two of three from Arizona.
"I think that is a tremendous way for us to end our season, when you consider
in relationship to our young players, for three days in a row to have them go
out there and perform against this ball club, in a manner in which they did,"
said Rockies manager Jim Tracy.
"I just think it was tremendous, and it typifies what they have done all year
long: Go out there and play the game as hard as they can play it, with all the
effort and energy that they can put forth, and what else can a manager ask."
Ian Kennedy (15-12) pitched well in defeat, giving up two unearned runs on six
hits with eight strikeouts and no walks over seven strong frames.
"This whole series has been really exciting, whether you're winning or losing,
both teams, it's tough," said Kennedy. "We didn't have anything to play for,
but the last three games, we gave the fans something to stay and cheer for. It
was a tough loss, but I thought we fought hard all the way to the end and made
it an exciting game."

home run for the D'backs (81-81), who lost three of their last four to end the
