Greene's Day: Yanks rookie shuts down Orioles
Baltimore, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - Shane Greene once again provided a huge lift to the New York Yankees' injury-plagued rotation, firing 7 1/3 scoreless innings to lead the Bronx Bombers to a 3-0 win over the Baltimore Orioles.
Five days after twirling six innings of two-run ball to defeat Cleveland in his first major league start, Greene (2-0) racked up nine strikeouts while limiting Baltimore's power-packed lineup to just four singles in a strong encore.
The rookie got help from a few of New York's wily veterans, as Mark Teixeira and Jacoby Ellsbury came through with run-scoring doubles and Derek Jeter went 2-for-5 with an RBI single. Brian McCann finished with three hits in the victory.
Nick Markakis had two of the Orioles' five hits in the loss, just the third in 12 games for the current AL East leaders. Chris Tillman (7-5) had a four-start unbeaten stretch end after permitting three runs over 6 2/3 innings.
