Giants promote Francoeur, activate Casilla from DL
San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - The San Francisco Giants made several roster moves on Saturday, including purchasing the contract of outfielder Jeff Francoeur from Triple-A Fresno and activating pitcher Santiago Casilla from the 15-day disabled list.
Francoeur was designated for assignment by the Royals on June 30 after batting .208 with three home runs and 13 RBI in 59 games this season. He signed a minor-league deal with the Giants on Tuesday.
The 29-year-old has a career average of .264 with 140 homers and 614 RBI over nine seasons with Kansas City, Texas, the New York Mets and Atlanta.
Casilla, 32, went 3-2 with a 1.89 in 21 appearances this season but was placed on the disabled list on May 21 and underwent knee surgery to remove a cyst.
A 10-year veteran with the Athletics (2004-09) and Giants (2010-13), Casilla has a 25-16 career record with a 3.53 ERA and 38 saves in 347 games.
In addition, the Giants optioned pitcher Jean Machi and infielder Nick Noonan to Fresno and designated pitcher Chris Heston for assignment.
Machi went 2-0 with a 3.58 ERA in 26 games with San Francisco. He was recalled for a third time on Thursday and threw two perfect innings in Friday's 10-1 win against the Padres.
The 24-year-old Noonan made the 25-man Opening Day roster and hit .213 with five RBI in 52 games.
