NOTES:The LPGA Tour travels to the Bahamas this week for the season-opening
Pure Silk-Bahamas LGPA Classic at Paradise Island. The event is being held at Ocean Club Golf Course, which opened for play in 1954. Dick Wilson originally designed the course, while Tom Weiskopf redesigned and renovated the layout in 2000.

Five of the top-13 players in the world are in the field - Stacy Lewis (3), Lydia Ko (4), Na Yeon Choi (7), Lexi Thompson (9) and Paula Creamer (13). Lewis is coming off a year in which she won three times, including her second major title at the Ricoh Women's British Open. She finished 2013 with seven straight top-10 finishes.

This tournament starts the new season-long points race on the LPGA Tour. The inaugural "Race to the CME Globe" will start this week and will conclude at the final event of the year, the newly renamed CME Group Tour Championship. Points will be awarded for each event from the season opener through the Lorena Ochoa Invitational in November, setting up the field for the Tour Championship, which starts November 20. The winner of the season-long points race will earn an unofficial money payout of $1 million -- the largest in women's golf.

The 2013 tournament was the first official event for the LPGA Tour in the Bahamas. The Ocean Club Golf Course previously hosted the Michael Jordan Celebrity Invitational from 2001 to 2010 and currently stages the Michael Douglas and Friends Celebrity Golf Tournament.

Bahama native Georgette Rolle received a sponsor's exemption into the field. She is a two-time Bahamas National Women's Amateur Champion (2003, 07). Rolle attended Texas Southern University and is currently an assistant coach at her alma mater and an LPGA Teaching Professional.

Last year, Ilhee Lee closed with a 5-under round on Sunday to earn a 2-stroke win at the weather-shortened event. Lee carded a 5-under 42 on Sunday to end the event at 11-under-par 126. This was her first LPGA Tour victory. The event was played in three 12-hole rounds to reach 36 holes, which made the tournament official. Due to the heavy rains, the course was shortened for tournament play.

The LPGA Tour heads to Australia in three weeks for the ISPS Handa Women's Australian Open, where Jiyai Shin will defend her title.
