Without Tony Romo in the lineup, the rest of the Cowboys' players stats have sunk.
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) -
While it's true that fantasy owners aren't necessarily "homers," it is very frequently the case that owners pick players from their local teams because of more available knowledge, loyalty and ease of viewing.
That being the case, the last few weeks have not been good for many of our Dallas brethren.
The team has been struggling since Tony Romo went down with a broken finger on his throwing hand and was replaced by veteran Brad Johnson. Actually "replaced" is being generous to Johnson.
As a starter, Johnson has thrown two touchdown passes and been picked off five times. Three weeks ago he managed to pass for 234 yards against St. Louis, but then slumped to 122 yards against Tampa Bay and just 71 yards on Sunday versus the Super Bowl Champion New York Giants before being taken out for Brooks Bollinger.
As Johnson's numbers have sunk like the Titanic, so have the fantasy performances of the other Dallas stars - Terrell Owens, Jason Witten and Marion Barber III. Owens' statistics for the last three games (12-100-1) look more like what he puts out in one game with Romo under center. Witten has just seven catches for 52 yards and Barber's combined yardage has dropped from 113-100-42 with no passing threat to balance the Cowboys' offense.
Under Romo the team scored 29.1 ppg and with his replacements the number is 13.7 ppg. and the team has lost two of three.
But there is good news on the horizon. Following a bye week Romo is expected to be back and so should the offense.
It's the perfect time to try and acquire some of these Cowboys! Surely you didn't think this article was just about being sympathetic.
Certainly in the eyes of their owners, their fantasy value is as low as it can get. I'll bet if you call about Owens' availability you will be surprised as to how little it will take to get him. Barber might be obtainable too and if Romo's owner has been losing without his star, he might be in "panic" mode.
Now is not the time to be relaxing just because you are leading in the standings. You must stay aggressive. Don't wait for the competition to get healthy. You need the killer instinct.
It's similar to when the stock market goes down and there are always smart buyers out there who can spot the bargains. They end up making a fortune. The same is true in the fantasy world. Don't let this opportunity go to waste. Make that call...send that e-mail. You might just make the move that wins you the championship.
