Defense Player Notes
For The Last 15 Days

Andrei Markov, D, MON2/26/2015 9:45:00 PM
Description: Montreal defenseman Andrei Markov recorded two points during Thursday's victory over the Blue Jackets.
Insight: He had a goal and an assist, along with three shots and an impressive plus-five rating. Markov should be owned everywhere, with eight goals, 38 points, 26 penalty minutes, and a plus-13 rating through 61 games.
Roman Josi, D, NAS2/24/2015 10:40:00 PM
Description: Predators defenseman Roman Josi had a plus-three rating on Tuesday night.
Insight: Josi also scored a goal and had three shots. He is a great option on defense, and now has 11 goals, 43 points, 18 penalty minutes, and a plus-20 rating through 61 games. Owners cannot ask for much more out of a defenseman.
Justin Faulk, D, CAR2/24/2015 9:44:00 PM
Description: Hurricanes defensemen Justin Faulk recorded two points during Tuesday's victory against the Flyers.
Insight: He had a goal and an assist, along with three shots and a plus-one rating. Faulk now has 11 goals and 38 points through 59 games. Jay McClement, Jeff Skinner, and Jordan Staal also tallied for the Hurricanes.
Nicklas Grossmann, D, PHI2/24/2015 9:41:00 PM
Description: Flyers defenseman Nicklas Grossmann scored the team's lone goal Tuesday versus Carolina.
Insight: Leave him on the waiver wire. Grossmann has just four goals and nine points through 51 games this season. Jakub Voracek and Matt Read picked up assists in the defeat.
Dougie Hamilton, D, BOS2/22/2015 6:27:00 PM
Description: Bruins defenseman Dougie Hamilton notched a goal and an assist in the, 6-2, victory over the Blackhawks.
Insight: Hamilton scored on the man advantage. Boston won the offensive faceoff that followed the penalty and Hamilton beat Blackhawks goalie Antti Raanta with a slap shot. Hamilton has 10 goals and 22 assists in 59 games this season.
Niklas Kronwall, D, DET2/22/2015 9:33:00 AM
Description: Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall netted the game-winner in overtime Saturday versus Dallas.
Insight: He did so 36 seconds into the extra session, and also had an assist in the game as well. Kronwall now has seven goals and 33 points, but is not a relevant option.
Jared Spurgeon, D, MIN2/21/2015 11:57:00 AM
Description: Wild defenseman Jared Spurgeon is questionable for Sunday's game against Dallas after he was struck on the chin off a shot from Mark Giordano Wednesday night.
Insight: Spurgeon (7 G, 11 A, plus 1 rating) makes has been a low-end fantasy option this season, but concussion-like symptoms could keep him sidelined for a while.
Christopher Tanev, D, VAN2/21/2015 11:29:00 AM
Description: Vancouver defenseman Christopher Tanev is doubtful for Sunday's game against the NY Islanders while dealing with an upper-body injury.
Insight: Tanev has already missed the last three games. He has 15 points this season, but his fantasy value is limited.
Adam Larsson, D, NJD2/20/2015 9:59:00 PM
Description: Devils defenseman Adam Larsson had his first three-point game of the season on Friday against the Canucks.
Insight: Larsson had three assists in New Jersey's, 4-2, victory. Despite the nice game, Larsson is hardly fantasy relevant with two goals and 13 assists this season.
Toby Enstrom, D, WIN2/19/2015 9:58:00 PM
Description: Jets defenseman Tobias Enstrom scored the team's lone goal in Thursday's loss against the Capitals.
Insight: Enstrom scored in the second period to cut Winnipeg's deficit in half, but Washington scored three unanswered goals to end the game. Enstrom has four goals and 14 assists in 41 games this season.
Nick Leddy, D, NYI2/19/2015 9:54:00 PM
Description: Islanders defenseman Nick Leddy had a goal and two assists to help New York scored five goals on the top fantasy goalie this season.
Insight: Leddy had two assists in the first period and then scored in the third to put New York ahead, 4-2. They ended up beating Pekka Rinne and the Nashville Predators, 5-2. Leddy has eight goals and 17 assists this season.
P.K. Subban, D, MON2/19/2015 7:05:00 PM
Description: Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban is expected to play on Thursday versus the Panthers.
Insight: Subban injured himself by blocking a shot on Wednesday versus the Senators, but he should be good to go. Subban should be in all fantasy lineups.
Dougie Hamilton, D, BOS2/19/2015 9:42:00 AM
Description: Bruins defenseman Dougie Hamilton notched a pair of assists Wednesday night against Edmonton.
Insight: Hamilton has nine goals and 23 assists for 32 points in 57 games this season, but could end up with a minus rating, for the first time in his career, this season, which would be a blow to fantasy owners who were counting on his +22 from last season. I blame the entire Bruins defense, not just Hamilton.
Anton Stralman, D, TAM2/19/2015 9:38:00 AM
Description: Lightning defenseman Anton Stralman posted two points on Wednesday night versus the Ducks.
Insight: He had a goal and an assist. Stralman's combination of 28 points (4G, 24A) with an excellent +22 rating makes him a viable fantasy option. Nine of his points have come on the power play.
Matt Irwin, D, SJS2/17/2015 10:48:00 PM
Description: Sharks defenseman Matt Irwin scored the only goal for San Jose on Tuesday as the Sharks lost, 5-1, in Nashville.
Insight: San Jose actually jumped out, 1-0, on Irwin's goal about five minutes into the game. Nashville, however, scored five unanswered goals to end the game. Irwin isn't really fantasy relevant with five goals and six assists in 34 games this season.
Michael Del Zotto, D, PHI2/17/2015 9:40:00 PM
Description: Flyers defenseman Michael Del Zotto registered two points during Tuesday's loss to the Blue Jackets.
Insight: Del Zotto had a goal and an assist, with three shots on goal as well. He has six goals and 21 points through 45 games, and should only be considered for a roster spot if owners are dealing with injuries.
Sami Vatanen, D, ANA2/17/2015 4:32:00 PM
Description: Ducks defenseman Sami Vatanen will miss the next four-to-six weeks with a lower-body injury.
Insight: This is a big blow for owners, as Vatanen had 12 goals and 34 points through 57 games. He will likely return in time for the postseason.
Kevin Klein, D, NYR2/16/2015 9:39:00 PM
Description: Rangers defenseman Kevin Klein netted the game-winning goal Monday against the Islanders.
Insight: After Ryan Strome gave the Islanders a 5-3 third period lead, the Rangers went onto score three unanswered goals, with Klein capping the comeback off. He also had an assist and a plus-one rating, and now has nine goals, 25 points, and a plus-22 rating through 54 games.
Ryan McDonagh, D, NYR2/16/2015 9:36:00 PM
Description: Rangers defenseman Ryan McDonaugh scored two goals during Monday's victory against the Islanders.
Insight: He also had six shots on goal. McDonagh now has seven goals andd 22 points through 44 games this season.
Dmitry Kulikov, D, FLA2/16/2015 2:19:00 PM
Description: Florida defenseman Dmitry Kulikov has been suspended for four games after hitting Stars center Tyler Seguin.
Insight: Kulikov gets four games and the Stars and fantasy owners lose Seguin for 3-6 weeks. Not a fair exchange. Kulikov has 16 points this season.
Nikita Zadorov, D, BUF2/15/2015 10:14:00 PM
Description: Sabres defenseman Nikita Zadorov scored the team's lone goal During Sunday's loss versus Philadelphia.
Insight: Zadorov really is not much of an option for owners, with just three goals and 13 points for 40 games this seasons. He does have 37 penalty minutes, but it is not enough to warrant a roster spot.
Cody Franson, D, TOR2/15/2015 3:45:00 PM
Description: Defenseman Cody Franson has been traded to Nashville according to NHL.com.
Insight: Franson's Toronto teammate Mike Santorelli will join him in Nashville as the Predators send the Maple Leafs Olli Jokinen, Brandan Leipsic and a 2015 first-round pick. This is a good trade for both sides, and it should benefit Franson's fantasy value. He goes from the second-most scored upon team in the Eastern Conference to the least scored upon team in the Western Conference.
Niklas Hjalmarsson, D, CHI2/15/2015 3:32:00 PM
Description: Blackhawks defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson scored Chicago's only goal in the, 2-1, shootout victory over the Penguins on Sunday.
Insight: Chicago won a faceoff in the offensive zone early in the second period, and Hjalmarsson released a nasty, knuckling slap shot that beat Marc-Andre Fleury. Hjalmarsson, however, isn't fantasy relevant being that was just his second goal of the season.
