Columbus Blue Jackets Player Notes
For The Last 365 Days

Sergei Bobrovsky, G11/25/2014 9:48:00 PM
Description: Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky lost his fourth consecutive game on Tuesday.
Insight: He made 28 saves on 31 shots, and dropped his record to 5-7-1. However, we still like Bob to rebound, and get hot rather soon.
Ryan Johansen, C11/25/2014 9:46:00 PM
Description: Blue Jackets center Ryan Johansen scored a goal in Tuesday's loss to the Jets.
Insight: It was his eighth goal of the season, and Johansen now has a solid 24 points through 21 games.
Sergei Bobrovsky, G11/22/2014 9:31:00 PM
Description: Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky was inconsistent in Saturday's loss to Philadelphia.
Insight: He made some nice saves, but also let in a goal or two he would normally save. Bobrovsky ended up making 32 saves on 36 shots on goal. He is now 5-6-1 on the season.
Sergei Bobrovsky, G11/21/2014 10:15:00 PM
Description: Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky allowed three goals but still posted a .927 save percentage on Friday.
Insight: That's because he faced 41 shots against the Bruins. He did allow a soft goal at the beginning of the third period when Bruins' Dennis Seidenberg took a shot from just in front of the center line that Bobrovsky did not stop. He allowed the next two goals too, but his team bailed him out with a tying goal, which sent the game to overtime. Bobrovsky was phenomenal in the shootout, stopping the first six shooters, but he allowed the seventh attempt to sneak into the net, and his team failed on all seven of their shootout attempts. Therefore, he didn't get the win.
Brandon Dubinsky, C11/21/2014 1:46:00 PM
Description: Blue Jackets center Brandon Dubinsky (abdominal surgery) is expected to begin practicing soon, according to Shawn Mitchel of the Columbus Dispatch.
Insight: Dubinsky will likely be a second-line regular, but he excelled in that role last season with 16 goals and 34 assists.
Sergei Bobrovsky, G11/18/2014 9:39:00 PM
Description: Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky allowed five goals in Tuesday's loss to the Red Wings.
Insight: He stopped 35-of-40 shots on goal, dropped his record to 5-5-0 on the season. This was Bobrovsky's second game since returning from injury.
Cam Atkinson, RW11/15/2014 10:47:00 PM
Description: Blue Jackets forward Cam Atkinson scored a goal against the Sharks on Saturday.
Insight: Atkinson scored on the power play in the final three minutes of the second period to extend the Blue Jackets lead to 2-0 over the Sharks. Columbus won, 2-1. Atkinson has seven goals and three assists this season.
Sergei Bobrovsky, G11/15/2014 10:42:00 PM
Description: Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky was stellar in his first game back from his finger injury.
Insight: Bobrovsky allowed one mere goal on 37 shots against the Sharks on Saturday. It was his first start since Oct. 26 when he fractured his finger. Bobrovsky's return is exactly what fantasy owners and the Columbus Blue Jackets need.
Nick Foligno, LW11/14/2014 9:40:00 PM
Description: Blue Jackets left wing Nick Foligno scored two goals and one assist in Friday's win over the Flyers.
Insight: Foligno has played very well this season, and now has nine goals and 18 points.
Sergei Bobrovsky, G11/14/2014 3:31:00 PM
Description: Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky has been activated for Friday night's contest against Philadelphia.
Insight: Bobrovsky (broken finger) will likley serve as backup Friday and start Saturday night's game. He's 4-4 with a 2.81 GAA and .908 SV%. Bobrovsky missed seven games and the Blue Jackets went 0-6-1 in his absence.
Cam Atkinson, RW11/11/2014 10:00:00 PM
Description: Blue Jackets forward Cam Atkinson scored a goal on four shots against the Capitals on Tuesday.
Insight: Atkinson scored in the first period to cut the deficit in half, 2-1, but Washington responded with another goal before the end of the period. Atkinson also had two penalty minutes.
Ryan Johansen, C11/9/2014 10:34:00 AM
Description: Blue Jackets center Ryan Johansen had a goal and an assist during Saturday's loss to the Lightning.
Insight: He also had six shots on goal, and now has a solid 16 points overall. Johansen should continue to produce for fantasy owners all season.
Scott Hartnell, RW11/8/2014 9:46:00 PM
Description: Blue Jackets winger Scott Hartnell scored another two goals in Saturday's loss to the Lightning.
Insight: After scoring two on friday, Hartnell repeated the feat on Saturday, and now has five goals overall, and a solid 14 points on the season.
Scott Hartnell, RW11/7/2014 10:03:00 PM
Description: Blue Jackets winger Scott Hartnell scored two goals for Columbus in a, 3-2, overtime loss to the Hurricanes on Friday.
Insight: Hartnell finished plus-two with six shots. He scored both in the second period to make the score, 2-1, but Columbus could not hold onto the lead.
Sergei Bobrovsky, G11/6/2014 6:49:00 PM
Description: Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky has started some light puck-catching according to the Columbus Dispatch.

Nick Foligno, LW11/4/2014 9:55:00 PM

Boone Jenner, C11/3/2014 4:32:00 PM
Description: Blue Jackets winger Boone Jenner is set to return to the ice at some point this week according to the Columbus Dispatch.
Insight: Jenner broke his hand in training camp when a puck hit him in practice. He had surgery and was ruled out five weeks, which is up this week. With all the injuries the Blue Jackets have suffered, Columbus need him back as soon as possible.
Sergei Bobrovsky, G11/3/2014 4:27:00 PM
Description: Blue Jackets coach Todd Richards did not update goalie Sergei Bobrovsky's status on Sunday.
Insight: That has led the Columbus Dispatch to guess that Bobrovsky will not be ready to play this week. The goalie fractured his finger a week ago and was ruled out for one-to-two weeks. It appears closer to two.
Ryan Johansen, C10/31/2014 9:48:00 PM
Description: Blue Jackets center Ryan Johansen assisted on the team's lone goal Friday night.
Insight: He set up Cam Atkinson in the third period, and had seven shots on goal as well. Johansen now has 13 points on the season.
Nick Foligno, LW10/31/2014 4:43:00 PM
Description: Blue Jackets left wing Nick Foligno (upper body) is expected to play on Friday.
Insight: He missed Tuesday's contest after being pushed into the boards by Jeff Carter, but it is looking like Foligno will return to action against Toronto.
Curtis McElhinney, G10/28/2014 10:15:00 PM
Description: Blue Jackets goalie Curtis McElhinney was not good in his first start after given the starting role due to Sergei Bobrovsky's injury.
Insight: McElhinney stopped just 29 shots and allowed five goals. The Blue jackets, the sleeper pick in the Metropolitan division, are in seventh place, in front of just the winless Hurricanes.
Sergei Bobrovsky, G10/28/2014 4:52:00 PM
Description: Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky has been placed on injured reserve.
Insight: Bobrovsky is expected to miss up to two weeks due to a fractured finger. Bobrovsky is 4-4 with a 2.81 GAA and .908 save percentage. Curtis McElhinney will start Tuesday.
Sergei Bobrovsky, G10/25/2014 11:21:00 AM
Description: Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky allowed three goals on 33 shots on Friday against the Ducks.
Insight: Bobrovsky fell victim to some bad luck. He allowed two early power-play goals to the most lethal man advantage unit in the NHL a season ago, and Columbus produced just 17 shots on net themselves. Bobrovsky is 4-3 with a 2.47 GAA and .920 save percentage.
Scott Hartnell, RW10/25/2014 11:17:00 AM
Description: Blue Jackets winger Scott Hartnell scored the lone Blue Jackets goal on Friday versus the Ducks.
Insight: Anaheim won the game, 4-1. Hartnell was minus-one with five shots on net in addition to his score. It was his first goal of the season.
Nick Foligno, LW10/18/2014 10:17:00 PM
Description: Blue Jackets left wing Nick Foligno scored a goal and an assist on Saturday against the Senators.
Insight: Foligno also had four shots on net and was plus-one. Despite erasing a 2-0 deficit, the Blue Jackets could not complete the comeback as Senators left winger Mike Hoffman scored in the third period, and Ottawa won, 3-2.
Sergei Bobrovsky, G10/17/2014 9:53:00 PM
Description: Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky played well in Friday's win over Calgary.
Insight: He stopped 29-of-31 shots on goal, and picked up his third win of the season. Bobrovsky is easily a top-ten option in net, for the 2014-15 season.
Ryan Johansen, C10/17/2014 9:52:00 PM
Description: Blue Jackets center Ryan Johansen notched his third goal of the season on Friday night.
Insight: He now has six points through five games, but was also -1 on the night. Johansen should be considered as a bench option for fantasy owners.
Ryan Johansen, C10/14/2014 10:09:00 PM
Description: Blue Jackets center Ryan Johansen scored twice on three shots against the Stars on Tuesday.
Insight: Johansen accounted for both of Columbus' goals on Tuesday as the team lost, 4-2. The center has five points this season and the scores were his first two of the year.
Ryan Murray, D10/11/2014 11:16:00 AM
Description: Doctors have cleared Blue Jackets defenseman Ryan Murray for 'controlled contact' at practice.
Insight: Murray now needs to be cleared for full contact before returning to game action. Murray is definitely worth taking in dynasty pools but in single-season fantasy leagues, he has much less value. There is no definite timetable for his return.
Sergei Bobrovsky, G10/9/2014 9:56:00 PM
Description: Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky made 22 saves and allowed just one goal in a victory over the Sabres on Thursday.
Insight: That's good for a .955 save percentage after game one. The goal Bobrovsky allowed was on the power play. Columbus' next game will be against the New York Rangers on Saturday.
Cam Atkinson, RW10/9/2014 9:49:00 PM
Description: Blue Jackets forward Cam Atkinson scored a goal on three shots in over 15 minutes of ice time against the Sabres on Thursday.
Insight: Atkinson scored his goal on the power play at the 12:45 mark of the third period to put the Blue Jackets ahead, 2-1. He spent over three and a half minutes on the power play Thursday. Columbus tacked on another goal and won, 3-1.
Brandon Dubinsky, C10/7/2014 1:32:00 PM
Description: Blue Jackets center Brandon Dubinsky is doubtful for Thursday's game against Buffalo due to a lower body injury.
Insight: Dubinsky will likely be a second-line regular, but he excelled in that role last season with 16 goals and 34 assists. We expect him to do all the little things to put up solid numbers: 18 goals and 35 assists are our projections, no matter where he is in the lineup.
Boone Jenner, C10/3/2014 12:18:00 PM
Description: Columbus winger Boone Jenner will miss up to five weeks after surgery on a broken hand.
Insight: The Blue Jackets will be short-handed up front with Nathan Horton also sidelined. Playing winger in his rookie year, Jenner had 16 goals and 29 points in 72 games, but this will put a damper on his sophomore season.
R.J. Umberger, C10/1/2014 11:23:00 AM
Description: Flyers left wing R.J. Umberger posted four straight 20-goal seasons from 2008-2012.
Insight: Umberger did all that with the Columbus Blue Jackets. This year, Umberger will have the challenge of holding off the up-and-coming players on the Flyers roster. Umberger has experience and is a player both the Flyers and fantasy owners can comfortably fall back on, but his ceiling is pretty low. He scored just 34 points last year in 74 games.
Ryan Murray, D9/25/2014 2:59:00 PM
Description: Blue Jackets defenseman Ryan Murray skated in full-gear on Thursday, but did say he doesn't want to rush back from his knee injury according to Shawn Mitchell of the Columbus Dispatch.
Insight: Murray had a knee scope in June and still isn't ready to return to the Blue Jackets' line up.The Blue Jackets are counting on the 20-year-old to be a key component to the defense this season. He scored four goals with 17 assists last year.
Nathan Horton, RW9/25/2014 12:03:00 PM
Description: Blue Jackets right wing Nathan Horton is out indefinitely with a back injury that he has been dealing with all summer according to the Columbus Dispatch.
Insight: Not a good sign for Horton, who played in only 36 games last season, the fewest in his 10-year career. He also had a career-low five goals and 19 points in 2013-2014. He will likely miss all of training camp and could miss the start of the regular season.
Nick Foligno, LW9/25/2014 11:56:00 AM
Description: Blue Jackets left wing Nick Foligno could be a quality fantasy bench player this year.
Insight: Foligno has the talent to be a good fantasy contributor, but he has to be in the right situation. Foligno might not begin the season on a scoring line due to the additon of Scott Hartnell and other young developing players for the Blue Jackets. If Columbus suffers a couple injuries or the Ryan Johansen holdout becomes a bigger issue, Foligno is more than capable of getting more ice time and producing.
Cam Atkinson, RW9/25/2014 11:49:00 AM
Description: Blue Jackets forward Cam Atkinson has tremendous potential this season if he plays alongside new teammate Scott Hartnell.
Insight: Atkinson scored 21 goals last year, but the team has gone on record that the forward's potential is closer to 30 goals per season. Atkinson has struggled with his lack of size, which is why playing with the big bruiser, Hartnell, will help Atkinson so much. No one knows yet if indeed Atkinson and Hartnell will be paired together but better to be proactive in the draft than reactive later on during the season.
Brandon Dubinsky, C9/25/2014 11:45:00 AM
Description: Blue Jackets center Brandon Dubinsky could be a great fantasy find late in drafts this year.
Insight: Columbus traded for Scott Hartnell, so Dubinsky will likely be a second-line regular, but he excelled in that role last season with 16 goals and 34 assists. We expect him to do all the little things to put up solid numbers: 18 goals and 35 assists are our projections, no matter where he is in the lineup.
Scott Hartnell, RW9/25/2014 11:41:00 AM
Description: Blue Jackets winger Scott Hartnell will score more goals and points in the 2014-2015 season than he did last year.
Insight: Our projections have Hartnell scoring 24 goals and 34 assists in his first year in Columbus. Hartnell should continue to provide across-the-board contribution to all stats, in particular, to the power play. Even still, do not draft him too early because it might take awhile for Hartnell to gain a rapport with Ryan Johansen, especially if Johansen is not in training camp.
Ryan Johansen, C9/25/2014 11:18:00 AM
Description: Blue Jackets center Ryan Johansen lowered his contract demands by more than $2 million per season according to Sportsnea.ca.
Insight: The latest report says Johansen is asking for two years, $4.7 million per year. The Blue Jackets would still like their center's demands to lower even more before they begin serious negiotiations. We think Johansen will easily repeat his 2013-2014 numbers, 33 goals, 30 assists, and 237 shots, if a contract is agreed upon before the season, but we are still concerned that woun't happen.
Boone Jenner, C9/25/2014 11:00:00 AM
Description: Boone Jenner played center in his first preseason game.
Insight: With Ryan Johansen still unsigned, the Blue Jackets are giving Jenner an opportunity to play his natural position of center. Playing winger in his rookie year, Jenner had 16 goals and 29 points in 72 games. At just 21-yeard-old, the sky is the limit, and he should be owned in all leagues.
Ryan Murray, D9/19/2014 9:25:00 PM
Description: Blue Jackets defenseman Ryan Murray did not practice with his teammates on the first day of training camp due to a knee injury according to NHL.com.
Insight: Murray planned to practice in the afternoon on Friday but never made it onto the ice. General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen said Murray's absence was just part of his rehab schedule. Murray should be a key player to the Blue Jackets defense this season.
Scott Hartnell, RW6/23/2014 10:28:00 PM
Description: The Flyers traded Scott Hartnell to the Columbus Blue Jackets for R.J. Umberger on Monday.
Insight: The Flyers also received a fourth-round pick. Hartnell had 52 points (20 goals) in 78 games this past season. The 32-year-old has five years remaining on a six-year, $28.5 million contract and had to waive his no-trade clause. "(Flyers GM Ron Hextall) decided it was best for me to move on from the Flyers," Hartnell said. "To be honest, I was pretty shocked at first. I was upset and a little angry. I took a few days to look at the situation. It was hard." Hartnell will lose fantasy value going from Philly to Columbus.
Sergei Bobrovsky, G4/26/2014 9:53:00 PM
Description: Sergei Bobrovsky's 48 saves Saturday were a playoff career-high.
Insight: Bobrovsky was magnificent but the Blue Jackets couldn't overcome Pittsburgh's massive shot advantage (51-24) and lost 3-1. It's do or die for Columbus Monday in Game 6.
Fedor Tyutin, D4/23/2014 7:04:00 PM
Description: Columbus defenseman Fedor Tyutin (upper body) will not play Wednesday in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals against the Penguins.
Insight: The Blue Jackets will be without both Tyutin and Ryan Murray on Wednesday, making it even more difficult to even up the series as two games apiece.
Ryan Murray, D4/23/2014 7:02:00 PM
Description: Columbus defenseman Ryan Murray (undisclosed) is not active for Game 4 against the Penguins on Wednesday, according to Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch.
Insight: Murray left the morning skate early. The 2012 No. 2 overall pick has skated more than 25 minutes per game in the series.
Brandon Dubinsky, C4/21/2014 10:14:00 PM
Description: Brandon Dubinsky led the Blue Jackets with two assists Monday in a loss to Pittsburgh.
Insight: He's had at least one helper in each of his last four games. Dubinsky was second on the team in assists during the regular season (34 in 76 games). Columbus will look to even the series Wednesday night at Nationwide Arena.
Fedor Tyutin, D4/21/2014 10:36:00 AM
Description: Columbus defenseman Fedor Tyutin (upper body) left Saturday's game in the first period and is expected to miss Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals Monday against Pittsburgh.
Insight: Tyutin had four goals, 22 assists and 87 SOG in 69 games this season and is scoreless in two playoff games this season.
Nick Foligno, LW4/20/2014 4:22:00 PM
Description: Blue Jackets left wing Nick Foligno expects to compete Monday in Game 3 against the Penguins. SOURCE: Aaron Portzline, Columbus Dispatch

R.J. Umberger, C4/19/2014 11:25:00 AM
Description: Blue Jackets left wing R.J. Umberger is probable for Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals Saturday against Pittsburgh.
Insight: Umberger (18 goals, 16 assists, 26 PIM and 136 SOG in 74 games) skated in practice Friday. He'll likely be on the third line with center Artem Anisimov and right wing Blake Comeau.
Nick Foligno, LW4/19/2014 11:23:00 AM
Description: Columbus LW Nick Foligno (knee) has been upgraded to probable for Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals Saturday against Pittsburgh.
Insight: Foligno (18 goals, 21 assists, 96 PIM and 111 SOG) skated in Friday's practice and the team is leaning toward his playing in Game 2.
Nikita Nikitin, D4/12/2014 2:47:00 PM
Description: Blue Jackets defenseman Nikita Nikitin is questionable for Saturday's game against Florida due to a lower body injury suffered on Tuesday.
Insight: He has two goals and 13 assists in 65 games this season and zero points in his last 11 games. Look elsewhere for defensive help.

Nathan Horton, RW4/9/2014 11:47:00 AM
Description: Blue Jackets right wing Nathan Horton has already been ruled out for Wednesday's game in Dallas. SOURCE: Columbus Dispatch
Insight: Horton aggravated a lower body injury in Tuesday night's win over Phoenix. Wednesday's matchup is a continuation of a game that was postponed when Stars center Rich Peverely had a cardiac event. Horton scored in that contest, so he could be the game's high scorer even without playing on Wednesday.

Insight: Dubinsky's 15 goals and 44 points in 65 games aren't exceptional totals, but when you tack on 94 PIM and 158 SOG, you have a very good fantasy option.
