Description: The All-Star vote leader, Zemgus Girgensons, scored a goal on Monday.
Insight: Girgensons' score in the second period actually gave Buffalo a, 2-1, lead. Ottawa, however, scored four unanswered goals to end the game and win, 5-2. Girgensons, who leads All-Star voting because of a strong Latvian following, has 11 goals and nine assists in 37 games this season.
Description: Sabres right wing Drew Stafford led Buffalo's comeback over the Islanders on Saturday.
Insight: Stafford assisted two third period goals as Buffalo scored three unanswered in the third to tie the game at three and send it into overtime. Buffalo then won in a shootout, 4-3. Stafford has five goals and 14 assists in 33 games this season.
Description: Sabres goalie Jhonas Enroth made 41 saves as Buffalo stole another one from the Canadiens.
Insight: Buffalo swept Montreal in the weekend home-and-home series. It took a shootout on Saturday where Enroth stopped all five Canadiens attempts. Enroth made 71 saves in the two victories this weekend.
Description: Sabres winger Tyler Ennis scored the highlight goal of the night on Friday.
Insight: He drove to the net on Carey Price during the first period, cut across the crease, and beat Price with a no-look, backhanded shot. Seriously, check out the video. Ennis also had an assist. He has six goals and eight helpers this season.
Description: Sabres left winger Matt Moulson scored a goal and two assists on Saturday.
Insight: It was the biggest outburst of offensive production for Buffalo against the Maple Leafs, so that makes fantasy owners happy who continue to count on Sabres players. Moulson was plus-two with three shots as well. He has still been a big disappointment this season as he has just two goals and six assists.
Description: Sabres forward Zemgus Girgensons scored two goals against the Maple Leafs.
Insight: Buffalo scored a season-high six goals on Saturday to win its fourth game of the season. Girgensons was the only Sabre with multiple goals and a plus-four rating. He has six goals and four assists this season.
Description: Sabres winger Tyler Ennis scored a goal in Thursday's loss to Boston.
Insight: He had an assist and three shots on goal as well, but was -1 on the night. It was Ennis' first assist of the season, and he will need to pick it up, to be considered a reliable fantasy option.
Description: Sabres center Cody Hodgson scored his first goal of the season on Saturday.
Insight: He has not gotten off to the start that owners wished he would, but hopefully this goal will gets Hodgson going. Nicolas Deslauriers scored the other tally for Buffalo, his second-career goal.
Description: Sabres goalie Jhonas Enroth will be back in net for Buffalo on Saturday night.
Insight: After losing a tough one on Friday to the Panthers, 1-0, the Sabres are sticking with the hot hand. Owners need to make sure he is in their lineups, as goalies rarely play back-to-back nights.
Description: Sabres left wing Marcus Foligno scored twice on Tuesday against the Hurricanes.
Insight: Foligno scored the game's first goal and then he added insurance for Buffalo at the beginning of the third to make the score, 3-1. Carolina rallied, however, to send the game into overtime. Buffalo eventually won on a long shootout that went eight rounds and was finished by Zemgus Girgensons' goal.
Description: Sabres forward Zemgus Girgensons scored a goal in the eighth round of the shootout to defeat the Hurricanes, 4-3.
Insight: Matt Moulson converted the Sabres first shootout opportunity and Chris Terry answered for the Hurricanes in their second shot. The teams then traded shootout misses. Girgensons finally ended the deadlock with a score on Buffalo's eighth shootout chance.
Description: It is not out of the question for Tyler Myers to return to the 40-point level for the 2014-2015 season.
Insight: Myers has not reached the 40-point mark again since his rookie season in 2008-2009, the year he won the Calder Trophy as the league's top rookie. Myers, however, played much better under coach Ted Nolan, who took over mid-way through last year. He will also be paired with his good friend, Josh Gorges, on the blue line.
Description: Sabres right wing Drew Stafford is trying to repeat his 30-goal season from the 2009-2010 season.
Insight: Stafford told the Buffalo News that the Sabres enter this season with higher expectations despite finishing last year with the fewest points in the NHL. With the right linemates, Stafford could threaten the 30-goal mark again, but with his situation in flex, he is not a player worth spending a high pick on in the draft. We see Stafford in the 15-20 goal range this year.
Description: Sabres winger Chris Stewart is one of the biggest boom-or-bust fantasy hockey players for the 2014-2015 season.
Insight: Stewart told Buffalo News that he has high expectations for himself this season, and he has the motivation to succeed being in a contract year. Still, Stewart sometimes goes long stretches without a point. It will depend greatly on his situation this year, but he should be one of Buffalo's top six forwards with around 17 goals and 30-35 points.
Description: Sabres center Cody Hodgson looks like he will have a lot of upside playing on Buffalo's top line this season.
Insight: The Sabres have a lot of young, and they, hope up-and-coming players, and it is unclear how they will use them all. Hodgson should benefit from Matt Moulson's presence on the power play, but he needs to show more two-way ability to see more playing time overall.
Description: In his return to Buffalo, Matt Moulson has a chance to lead the Sabres in scoring this season.
Insight: Moulson played for three different teams last year, so he was likely never comfortable enough with his linemates or locker room situation to return to his 30-goal form. Buffalo hopes he can reach the 30-goal mark this season for the first time since 2010-2011. Our projections have him getting close, leading Buffalo with 27 goals and 55 points.
Description: Tyler Ennis' agent, Eustace King, predicted this past summer that Ennis will peak around 30 goals and 70 points.
Insight: King is not going to come forward and say his client is going to perform badly, so on some level, this doesn't really mean much. We see Ennis more around the 50-55 point range with 20-25 goals. He will play alongside Matt Moulson for an entire season this year, which will help, but we don't see a 10 goal increase from 21 scores a year ago.
Description: Matt Moulson signed a five-year, $25 million contract with the Sabres Tuesday.
Insight: The Islanders trade of Moulson to the Sabres for Thomas Vanek last season promptly sunk his fantasy value. He had 11 goals and 18 assists in 44 games with Buffalo before being dealt to Minnesota, where he had six goals and seven assists in 20 games. He'll be a 50-point player at best in 2014-15 given the talent level on the Sabres.
Description: Sabres center Zenon Konopka has been suspended 20 games for violating the league's substance abuse policy. SOURCE: NHL.com
Insight: It's not a big loss for fantasy owners as Konopka contributed just three points (one goal, two assists) in 59 games last season. Being a restricted free agent, the 20-game ban could make it harder for Konopka to find work this offseason.
Description: Buffalo winger Chris Stewart (ankle) is not expected to play in the season finale Sunday against the Islanders. Neither are Brian Flynn (lower body), Matt D'Agostini (lower body) and Christian Ehrhoff (concussion). SOURCE: nhl.com
Insight: Stewart (15 G, 11 A, 116 PIM, 109 SOG) missed a month due to a high ankle sprain and played just two games before leaving 20 seconds into Saturday's contest.
Description: Sabres defenseman Tyler Myers (upper body) is expected to miss Thursday's game and there is no timetable for his return.
Insight: TheBuffalo defenseman has nine goals and is a solid scorer with 22 points, but a -26 rating puts a damper on his usefulness to fantasy owners. He's likely to sit the remainder of the regular season.
Description: Sabres defenseman Tyler Myers (upper body) will miss Thursday's game.
Insight: Myers returned from an elbow injury Tuesday but suffered another injury. He leads all Buffalo defenseman in goals with nine and is a solid scorer with 22 points, but a -26 rating puts a damper on his usefulness to fantasy owners.
Description: Sabres defenseman Tyler Myers (elbow) returned to the lineup Tuesday after missing the last five games, only to injure himself crashing into the goal post.
Insight: Call him questionable for Thursday's game against Nashville. Myers leads all Buffalo defenseman in goals with nine and is a solid scorer with 22 points, but a -26 rating puts a damper on his usefulness to fantasy owners.
Description: Buffalo winger Chris Stewart (undisclosed) will miss at least another week, according to the Sabres on Twitter.
Insight: Stewart (15 G, 11 A, 116 PIM, 109 SOG) has produced just four points in his last 24 games, though he's spent 43 minutes in the penalty box during that stretch to give himself some fantasy value.
Description: Defenseman Rostislav Klesla has decided to take the rest of the year off and resume his hockey career in Europe next season, according to Darren Dreger of tsn.ca.
Insight: The 31-year-old Klesla was traded twice before the deadline, first from Phoenix to Washington and then from Washington to Buffalo. He never played a game for the Capitals or Sabres. He had 48 goals and 111 assists in 659 NHL games.
Description: The Capitals included D Rostislav Klesla in their trade with the Sabres for Jaroslav Halak, according to the Sabres on Twitter.
Insight: Klesla was acquired from Phoenix for Martin Erat Tuesday and never played for Washington. He has just one goal and four points in 25 games this season. There's nothing to get excited about here.
Description: Buffalo left wing Tyler Ennis (soreness) is probable for Monday's game against Dallas.
Insight: Ennis had picked up 14 points in his last 15 games but missed the last two due to "general body soreness." He has 14 goals and 30 points in 58 games this season and is a solid offensive weapon, but his -12 rating does hurts his fantasy value.
Description: Buffalo center Cody Hodgson scored a goal Friday against San Jose.
Insight: Hodgson has had a point in each of the last two games after posting just one in his previous six. He has 15 goals, 17 assists and 117 SOG in 50 games, almost identical to the pace he set last season.
Description: Buffalo defenseman Tyler Myers has collected four points in his last two games.
Insight: He had a goal and two assists Friday against the Sharks after scoring a goal Wednesday against Boston. Even with a +3 Friday, the defenseman still has a -23 rating this season to go with eight goals and 20 points in 55 games.
Description: Sabres goalie Jhonas Enroth stopped 36 of 38 shots against the Sharks Friday night in a 4-2 win.
Insight: Enroth was inserted into the starting lineup at the last minute after Ryan Miller was traded to the Blues and put together an impressive performance against a team that scored seven goals one night ago. Buffalo got back Jaroslav Halak in the deal, preventing Enroth from taking over as the full-time starter.
Description: Winger Chris Stewart was included in the trade that sent Ryan Miller to the Blues and Jaroslav Halak to the Sabres.
Insight: Stewart (15 G, 11 A, 112 PIM, 107 SOG) is now a member of the Sabres, but he might not be there for long. A three-way deal between St. Louis, Buffalo and Ottawa was discussed earlier this week, according to Bob McKenzie of tsn.ca, and the Senators covet Stewart. He'll get more playing time on both Buffalo and Ottawa than the 13:42 per game he played with the Blues, so his fantasy value is on the rise.
Description: Buffalo left wing Tyler Ennis (soreness) did not play Friday, as expected.
Insight: Ennis has picked up 14 points in his last 15 games but missed the last two due to "general body soreness." He has 14 goals and 30 points in 58 games this season and is a solid offensive weapon, but his -12 rating hurts his fantasy value.
Description: Goaltender Jaroslav Halak was traded from the St. Louis Blues to the Buffalo Sabres Friday night along with Chris Stewart, William Carrier, a 2015 first-round pick and a 2016 third-rounder for Ryan Miller and Steve Ott.
Insight: Halak goes from one of the best defensive teams in the NHL to one of the worst, and he also may have to split playing time with 25-year-old Jhonas Enroth as the Sabres play for the future.
Description: The Sabres made goalie Ryan Miller a late scratch Friday night as they discuss potential trades, according to Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Steve Ott was also held out Friday.
Insight: Rutherford reports that a deal is imminent and it is believed that the Blues are the likely destination for Miller. St. Louis is one of the top defensive teams in the NHL and would be a great place for Miller to land.
Description: Buffalo winger Matt Moulson extended his points streak to four games with a goal Wednesday against Boston.
Insight: The first two of those games came back at the end of January, as Moulson missed Buffalo's last four games before the Olympic break with an upper-body injury. There's a strong possibility he'll be traded into a better fantasy situation.
Description: It doesn't sound like Ryan Miller is going to be a Buffalo Sabre for much longer. SOURCE: Buffalo News
Insight: The team is actively shopping its star netminder. Buffalo GM Tim Murray has acknowledged that he'd like to trade Miller to a place where he can win a championship. Miller picked up two assists in Tuesday's win over Carolina while also providing 36 saves.
Description: Buffalo winger Matt Moulson (upper body) should be ready to return to the ice for Tuesday's game with Carolina.
Insight: Moulson's value took a big hit by the move from Long Island to Buffalo, as he has produced just nine goals and 24 points in 40 games with the Sabres, but most experts think he'll be playing elsewhere by the trade deadline (March 5).
Description: Chris Botta of the New York Times and SNY considers Buffalo winger Matt Moulson a "lock" to be traded before the deadline.
Insight: Botta reports that more than a dozen teams have contacted the Sabres about Moulson, whom they acquired along with a first- and second-round pick from the Islanders for Thomas Vanek. As we predicted when the trade went down, Moulson's value has been crushed by the move from Long Island to Buffalo, as he has produced just nine goals and 24 points in 40 games with the Sabres. Moulson is out until after the Olympic break due to an arm injury, so any trade will likely come after it.
Description: Buffalo defenseman Christian Ehrhoff is still questionable for Saturday's game due to an illness.
Insight: Ehrhoff will be a game-time decision. The 31-year-old has 23 points (four goals), 20 PIM and 111 SOG in 51 games which isn't horrible considering the Sabres are the lowest scoring team in the league.
