Cincinnati Bengals Player Notes
For The Last 365 Days

BenJarvus Green-Ellis, RB7/16/2014 4:34:00 PM
Description: The Cincinnati Enquirer's Paul Dehner Jr. expects BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Rex Burkhead to battle for one roster spot in camp.
Insight: Giovani Bernard and rookie Jeremy Hill are guaranteed spots and Dehner thinks Cedric Peerman is as well because he plays on special teams. Even if Green-Ellis makes the team, he won't see the field much and shouldn't be drafted in any leagues.
Jermaine Gresham, TE6/10/2014 8:06:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati tight end Jermaine Gresham is not participating in OTAs because he underwent hernia surgery, according to Field Yates of ESPN.
Insight: Gresham and Tyler Eifert combined for 86 catches, 903 yards and six touchdowns last season but canceled each other out for fantasy purposes. The same thing will probably happen this year.
Tyler Eifert, TE6/3/2014 8:03:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati tight end Tyler Eifert won't participate in OTAs. SOURCE: Bengals.com
Insight: He's dealing with a shoulder injury though the severity is unknown. Eifert (39 catches, 445 yards, 2 TD in 2013) was unable to distance himself from Jermaine Gresham last season and the two figure to split playing time again in 2014.
BenJarvus Green-Ellis, RB5/21/2014 10:19:00 AM
Description: According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Bengals are leaning toward keeping veteran running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis despite drafting Jeremy Hill in the second round.
Insight: Green-Ellis will be third on Cincinnati's halfback depth chart behind Hill and last year's second round pick Giovani Bernard. Green-Ellis could still vulture a handful of touchdowns for the Bengals but we're not counting on a breakout year for the 28-year-old.
Jeremy Hill, RB5/9/2014 8:55:00 PM
Description: The Cincinnati Bengals took RB Jeremy Hill 55th overall in the 2014 draft.
Insight: Cincinnati also took a running back in the second round last year (Giovani Bernard). At 6-foot-1, 233 pounds, Hill will provide a big-bodied complement to Bernard and may take away fantasy value from Bernard if he gets goal-line carries. BenJarvus Green-Ellis' days in Cincinnati are probably numbered.
Danieal Manning, SS4/3/2014 9:32:00 PM
Description: Former Texans safety Danieal Manning has agreed to a one-year deal with Cincinnati. SOURCE: Ian Rapoport, NFL.com
Insight: Houston cut him earlier this week when he refused to take a pay cut. Manning was an All-Pro selection for the Bears back in 2008. He turns 32 in August.
Jason Campbell, QB3/19/2014 9:54:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati signed quarterback Jason Campbell to a one-year deal on Wednesday. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: Campbell was cut by the Browns last week. He'll only be worth owning in fantasy if Andy Dalton gets injured. So far Dalton hasn't missed a game in his career, so that's highly unlikely.
Andrew Hawkins, WR3/11/2014 8:28:00 PM
Description: Bengals wideout Andrew Hawkins has agreed to a four-year offer sheet with the Browns. SOURCE: Nate Ulrich, Akron Beacon Journal
Insight: Now Cincinnati has ten days to match Cleveland's offer. Hawkins is likely to be dealing with a rookie quarterback in Cleveland, which is always a risk. He'll probably go undrafted in most fantasy leagues.
Giovani Bernard, RB3/4/2014 10:27:00 AM
Description: Geoff Hobson of bengals.com writes that RB Giovani Bernard "no doubt" will near 300 touches in 2014.
Insight: Former Cincinnati offensive coordinator and committee proponent Jay Gruden is now the head coach in Washington, so Bernard should have a chance to control the backfield in his second season. He had 695 rushing yards on 170 carries, 514 receiving yards on 56 catches and eight total touchdowns as a rookie while splitting time with BenJarvus Green-Ellis. Gruden stubbornly stuck with the "Law Firm" even though he rushed for just 3.4 ypc.
Marvin Jones, WR1/5/2014 8:27:00 PM
Description: Marvin Jones led all receivers with 130 yards on eight catches Sunday in a loss to San Diego.
Insight: The 130 yards represents a new career-high for the 23-year-old out of Cal-Berkeley. Jones was targeted 12 times on the afternoon. He could be a threat for 1,000 yards in 2014.
Andy Dalton, QBCold1/5/2014 7:29:00 PM
Description: Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton wasn't able to exorcise his playoff demons Sunday in an embarrassing loss to the Chargers.
Insight: Dalton was picked off twice and lost a fumble. He was also sacked three times and finished with a 67.0 QB rating. Dalton (29-for-51, 334 yards) is 0-3 in his career in the postseason. Cincinnati hasn't won a playoff game since 1991.
Rey Maualuga, LB1/5/2014 3:00:00 PM
Description: Bengals MLB Rey Maualuga left the game against San Diego briefly, but returned to the game.
Insight: Maualuga is a solid linebacker with 75 tackles, one sack and one interception this season.
Tyler Eifert, TE1/5/2014 12:16:00 PM
Description: Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert returned to practice Thursday and is active for Sunday's game against San Diego after dealing with a shoulder stinger.
Insight: Jermaine Gresham (46-461-4) and Eifert (39-445-2) both missed the Week 17 matchup. Both are healthy enough to be active and they cancel each other out and make it difficult to start either one.
Tyler Eifert, TE1/2/2014 2:16:00 PM
Description: Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert returned to practice Thursday and is probable for Sunday's game against San Diego after dealing with a shoulder stinger.
Insight: Jermaine Gresham (46-461-4) and Eifert (39-445-2) both missed the Week 17 matchup. If one of them can make it back they will have solid fantasy value. If both are healthy they cancel each other out and make it difficult to start either one.
Zoltan Mesko, P12/31/2013 5:22:00 PM
Description: The Bengals will go with Zoltan Mesko at punter this week against San Diego. Mesko signed with the Bengals on Tuesday.
Insight: It's a roll of the dice but Cincinnati doesn't have many other options now that Kevin Huber is out with a broken jaw. Mesko was cut by Pittsburgh earlier this season. In his seven games for the black and gold, Mesko averaged 42.5 yards per punt with a long of 65 yards.
Devon Still, DT12/30/2013 12:13:00 PM
Description: Bengals DT Devon Still is questionable for Sunday's game against San Diego with a back injury.
Insight: Still has played sparingly all season and his absence or return won't effect the Bengals defensive game plan.
Tyler Eifert, TE12/30/2013 12:10:00 PM
Description: Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert is questionable for Sunday's game against San Diego with a shoulder injury, though early expectations are that he will return.
Insight: Jermaine Gresham (46-461-4) and Eifert (39-445-2) both missed the Week 17 matchup. If one of them can make it back they will have solid fantasy value. If both are healthy they cancel each other out and make it difficult to start either one.
Jermaine Gresham, TE12/30/2013 12:08:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati tight end Jermaine Gresham was inactive for Sunday's game against Pittsburgh and is questionable for the first round of the playoffs due to a hamstring injury.
Insight: Gresham (46-461-4) and Tyler Eifert (39-445-2) both missed the Week 17 matchup. If one of them can make it back they will have solid fantasy value. If both are healthy they cancel each other out and make it difficult to start either one.
A.J. Green, WR12/29/2013 7:21:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati receiver A.J. Green has collected 260 catches in his first three seasons. That's a new NFL record.
Insight: The old record belonged to Anquan Boldin who Green passed earlier today. Green's 1,426 receiving yards this season were the most by a Bengal since 2007 when Chad Johnson had 1,440 on 93 catches.
Vontaze Burfict, LB12/29/2013 6:16:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati linebacker Vontaze Burfict finished with 14 tackles on Sunday.
Insight: Burfict will end the season with 171 tackles, a career-high and the most we've seen in the NFL since Jerod Mayo had 175 in 2010. The Arizona State alum was invited to his first Pro Bowl earlier this week.
Andy Dalton, QB12/29/2013 6:09:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati QB Andy Dalton set two team records Sunday in a win over Baltimore.
Insight: Dalton now holds the Bengals' records for touchdowns (33) and yards (4,296) in a season. Unfortunately, he also threw four interceptions on Sunday, a new career-high. Dalton will finish the year with an 88.8 rating on 586 passing attempts.
Jermaine Gresham, TE12/29/2013 11:59:00 AM
Description: Cincinnati tight end Jermaine Gresham is inactive for Sunday's game against Pittsburgh.
Insight: Gresham and Tyler Eifert are both out, leaving the tight end duties to Alex Smith and Orson Charles. That should mean more targets for the wideouts.
Tyler Eifert, TE12/29/2013 11:53:00 AM
Description: The Bengals will be without tight ends Tyler Eifert and Jermaine Gresham Sunday against Baltimore. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: Eifert is out with a shoulder issue while Gresham is battling a hamstring injury. Alex Smith will get the start at tight end. With just two catches this season, it's hard to envision Smith having a big game this week against a highly motivated Ravens secondary.
Vontaze Burfict, LB12/29/2013 11:35:00 AM
Description: Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict will be on the field Sunday against Baltimore. SOURCE: Jeff Zrebiec, Baltimore Sun
Insight: Burfict suffered a concussion in Week 16 but was able to return to full practice on Friday. He leads the NFL with 157 tackles this season.
A.J. Green, WR12/22/2013 5:54:00 PM
Description: Bengals WR A.J. Green had 97 yards and two touchdowns on seven catches Sunday against the Vikings.
Insight: Green just missed hitting the 100-yard bonus for the first time since Week 10 after getting it in five straight games up to that point. He's pulled down four scores over his last four games and 10 on the season.
Andy Dalton, QBHot12/22/2013 5:49:00 PM
Description: Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton had a field day against the Vikings in Week 16, throwing for 366 yards and four touchdowns with zero turnovers.
Insight: The Vikings got virtually no pressure on Dalton and didn't hit him at all until the fourth quarter. Dalton now has a career-high 4,015 yards and 31 passing touchdowns this season.
Jermaine Gresham, TE12/22/2013 12:03:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati tight end Jermaine Gresham is active in Week 16 against Minnesota.
Insight: Gresham and Tyler Eifert hurt each other's value and both are low-end fantasy options ... at best.
Kevin Huber, P12/16/2013 10:53:00 AM
Description: The Bengals will have to find a punter this week after Kevin Huber suffered a broken jaw against Pittsburgh.
Insight: Cincinnati will face Marcus Sherels (13.1 ypr) and Jacoby Jones (13.4) over the next two games, so they need to find a kicker that can get some serious hang time or kick it out of bounds.
James Harrison, LB12/16/2013 10:46:00 AM
Description: Cincinnati Bengals linebacker James Harrison left Sunday's game against Pittsburgh due to a concussion.
Insight: Harrison will go the the league-mandated concussion protocol before he can face the Minnesota Vikings in Week 16.
BenJarvus Green-Ellis, RB12/13/2013 12:32:00 PM
Description: Bengals running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis missed two days of practice, but returned to the field on Friday.
Insight: Green-Ellis has put up three touchdowns in the past two weeks, but has yet to crack the 100-yard mark this season.
Clint Boling, G12/2/2013 2:23:00 PM
Description: Bengals starting guard Clint Boling believe he suffered a torn ACL in Sunday's game and is done for the season, according to Cincinnati beat writer Joe Reedy.
Insight: Boling was playing very well and this injury will hurt. Mike Pollak should move into the spot with Kevin Zeitler returning from injury to hold down the other guard spot.
A.J. Green, WR11/17/2013 5:16:00 PM
Description: Cleveland cornerback Joe Haden locked Cincinnati receiver A.J. Green up and threw away the key Sunday afternoon.
Insight: Green had just two catches for seven yards on five targets, and Haden also picked off two passes. Green had produced 100-plus yards in five straight games. Haden also limited him to seven catches for 51 yards on 15 targets in Week 4.
Giovani Bernard, RB11/17/2013 2:48:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati running back Giovani Bernard aggravated his rib injury late in the second quarter Sunday against the Browns but is expected to return to the game.
Insight: Bernard injured his ribs several weeks ago but hasn't had to miss any games. We'll keep an eye out for him when the second half begins.
Jermaine Gresham, TE11/17/2013 12:28:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati tight end Jermaine Gresham (groin) is active in Week 11 against Cleveland.
Insight: Gresham was close to playing last week but he ended up sitting out. His return means both he and Tyler Eifert are middling TE2s.
BenJarvus Green-Ellis, RB11/14/2013 1:46:00 PM
Description: Bengals running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis has been playing through a broken thumb since Week 2, according to the team's site.
Insight: Green-Ellis has been losing ground to the more talented Giovani Bernard, but he'll still do the heavy lifting for this team. Bernard isn't built for 25 carries a game. Its a nice combination of power and speed.
A.J. Green, WR11/10/2013 6:37:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati wideout A.J. Green stunned the Ravens by snagging a hail mary touchdown at the end of regulation Sunday in Baltimore.
Insight: Unfortunately for Green, the Bengals would eventually lose in overtime. The 51-yard catch was Green's longest reception of the game. Overall, he finished with 151 yards on eight catches. He's the NFL's leading receiver this season with 1,013 yards in ten contests.
Jermaine Gresham, TE11/10/2013 12:02:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati tight end Jermaine Gresham won't be available Sunday against the Ravens.
Insight: Gresham wasn't able to practice this week because of a groin injury. Notre Dame alum Tyler Eifert will take over at tight end for the 6-3 Bengals.
Giovani Bernard, RB11/10/2013 11:55:00 AM
Description: Cincinnati halfback Giovani Bernard will play through a rib injury Sunday against division rival Baltimore.
Insight: Bernard, who practiced in a limited capacity on Friday, was never in any danger or missing this game. Of the two Bengals halfbacks (BenJarvus Green-Ellis being the other), the rookie Bernard is clearly the superior fantasy option (six touchdowns in nine games this season).
Giovani Bernard, RBHot11/8/2013 2:02:00 PM
Description: Bengals running back Giovani Bernard was limited in Friday's practice though he is expected to play Sunday.
Insight: The coaching staff has made the decision that Bernard will continue in his role as change of pace and part-time back with BenJarvus Green-Ellis to take a lot of the hard inside yards. They hope it will keep Bernard fresh, but it also limits his fantasy value.
Giovani Bernard, RBHot11/7/2013 6:55:00 PM
Description: Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden indicated that running back Giovani Bernard will not get more touches despite vastly outperforming BenJarvus Green-Ellis. SOURCE: Joe Reedy, Cincinnati Enquirer
Insight: "Some of these guys, it's important for them to be fresh, fast," Gruden said. "That's the way (Bernard) is. He needs to have full stamina and be fresh coming out of the backfield running fast because that's what he is. If he's tired after his 17th, 18th carry and all of a sudden he becomes a 4.8 guy and tired, he becomes an ordinary guy." Bernard is averaging 12.3 touches per game, and fantasy owners should expect his workload to remain in that territory. That keeps him in low-end RB2 territory.
Giovani Bernard, RBHot11/1/2013 9:28:00 AM
Description: Bengals rookie running back Giovani Bernard suffered injured ribs in the fourth quarter of Thursday night's game with Miami.
Insight: Bernard had already posted 104 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns. Outside of A.J. Green he's the team's most explosive weapon and will only get better as he takes more of the workload from BenJarvus Green-Ellis.
Geno Atkins, DT11/1/2013 9:25:00 AM
Description: Cincinnati DT Geno Atkins will miss the remainder of the season with a torn ACL. SOURCE: Joe Reedy, Cincinnati Enquirer
Insight: Atkins has made himself into one of the most dominent defensive tackles in the league. He amassed 12.5 sacks and 54 tackles last season and had six sacks this season before his injury. The Bengals' defense is reeling from the loss of Atkins, Leon Hall and Taylor Mays all in the last week.
Geno Atkins, DT10/31/2013 10:48:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati DT Geno Atkins injured his knee Thursday against the Dolphins.
Insight: We're being told he's done for the night. Atkins leads the team with six sacks this season.
Mohamed Sanu, WR10/31/2013 7:50:00 PM
Description: Bengals receiver Mohamed Sanu will attempt to play through a shoulder injury Thursday night against the Dolphins.
Insight: Sanu was back at practice yesterday but he wasn't a full participant. He'll probably be on a snap count which makes him a risky fantasy play in Week 9.
Taylor Mays, S10/31/2013 11:08:00 AM
Description: Bengals SS Taylor Mays (shoulder) has been placed on the injured reserve.
Insight: Mays joins Leon Hall, Rey Maualuga and Devon Still on the sideline which will make defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer's job much tougher.
Rey Maualuga, LB10/31/2013 11:02:00 AM
Description: Bengals MLB Rey Maualuga will miss 3-4 weeks with a sprained MCL beginning with Thursday night's game against Miami.
Insight: Maualuga absence (51 tackles) could pave the way for the Dolphins running game to make a dent in the Bengals defense.
Mohamed Sanu, WR10/31/2013 10:59:00 AM
Description: Cincinnati wideout Mohamed Sanu injured his shoulder Sunday against the Jets and is questionable for Thursday's game against Miami.
Insight: Sanu missed the first two practices this week, but did return for Wednesday's session. Despite Marvin Jones' impressive game, Sanu still got more snaps as the receiver oppostire A.J. Green.
Marvin Jones, WR10/27/2013 8:06:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati receiver Marvin Jones had the game of his life Sunday against the Jets.
Insight: He tied a franchise mark by corralling four touchdown catches. That gives the second-year wideout seven scores in eight games this season. That's good for fifth in the league behind Jimmy Graham, Wes Welker, Dez Bryant and Julius Thomas. Jones should be a popular pickup on the waiver wire this week.
Andy Dalton, QBHot10/27/2013 7:31:00 PM
Description: Bengals QB Andy Dalton had a monster game Sunday versus the Jets.
Insight: Dalton torched New York for a season-high five touchdowns. Four of those touchdowns went to Marvin Jones. Dalton has now thrown for over 300 yards in each of his last three contests. That's how many times Dalton threw for 300 yards all of last season.
Mohamed Sanu, WR10/27/2013 6:34:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati wideout Mohamed Sanu injured his shoulder Sunday against the Jets and the team's Twitter page says he's questionable to return.
Insight: The Bengals have built an enormous lead (49-9 at the time of this post) so there's no need to risk re-injury by sending Sanu back into the game. Assuming his day is done, the former Rutgers receiver will finish with 24 yards receiving on just one catch.
Marvin Jones, WR10/25/2013 4:37:00 PM
Description: Bengals receiver Marvin Jones (shoulder) practice Friday and is probable for Sunday's game against the Jets.
Insight: Jones suffered a left shoulder injury during Sunday's game but was able to return. The receiver has pulled in seven of his 11 targets for 128 yards and two touchdowns the last two games and is a 12-team WR3 in a week when six teams have a bye.
Marvin Jones, WR10/23/2013 4:12:00 PM
Description: Bengals receiver Marvin Jones (shoulder) missed Wednesday's practice.
Insight: Jones suffered a left shoulder injury during Sunday's game but was able to return. He should be able to play in Week 8 against the Jets and is a 12-team WR3 option with six teams on a bye. Jones has pulled in seven of his 11 targets for 128 yards and two touchdowns the last two games.
Andy Dalton, QBHot10/20/2013 5:29:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati signal-caller Andy Dalton has thrown for 709 yards and six touchdowns over his last two games.
Insight: The inconsistent QB had zero touchdowns in the two weeks prior. He'll play the Jets in Week 8 and the Dolphins in Week 9; 12 teams -- Chicago, Indianapolis, Tennessee, San Diego, Baltimore, Houston, Denver, New York Giants, Arizona, San Francisco, Jacksonville and Detroit -- have byes over those two weeks, so fantasy owners may want to roll with Dalton as a fill-in.
A.J. Green, WRHot10/20/2013 5:25:00 PM
Description: Bengals receiver A.J. Green grabbed six passes for 155 yards and a touchdown Sunday against the Lions.
Insight: Green only saw eight targets, as Andy Dalton threw at least four passes for five different receivers. The 25-year-old has 43 receptions for 619 yards and five touchdowns on 78 targets in seven games this season.
Leon Hall, CB10/20/2013 1:50:00 PM
Description: Bengals cornerback Leon Hall left Sunday's game against Detroit with an Achilles injury and is not expected to return.
Insight: Hall was covering Calvin Johnson on a pass in the end zone when he came up limping. Terence Newman and Pacman Jones will have to contain Megatron from here on out.
Andy Dalton, QB10/13/2013 7:21:00 PM
Description: Fantasy owners who rolled with Andy Dalton on Sunday were rewarded with 337 passing yards and three touchdowns.
Insight: Sunday was Dalton's first 300-yard game in almost a year (October 14, 2012 versus Cleveland). We wouldn't expect him to have a performance like this every time out but Dalton is certainly capable of putting up big numbers.
BenJarvus Green-Ellis, RB10/6/2013 6:04:00 PM
Description: Bengals running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis had 67 rushing yards and a touchdown on 19 carries (3.5 ypc) Sunday against New England.
Insight: Green-Ellis has been losing ground to the more talented Giovani Bernard, but he may have made some of that up Sunday. Bernard had 13 carries for 62 yards (4.8 ypc) but lost a fumble. The Law Firm has just 209 yards on 71 carries (2.9 ypc) this season but he does have three scores.
A.J. Green, WRCold10/6/2013 6:02:00 PM
Description: Bengals receiver A.J. Green has hauled in just 22 of his 46 targets (47.8 percent) over his last four games.
Insight: Green has 199 yards and one touchdown in that span. That includes five catches for 61 yards Sunday against the Patriots. He should find more room to work in Week 6 at Buffalo.
Dre Kirkpatrick, CB9/27/2013 4:10:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick did not participate in Friday's practice and is doubtful for Sunday's Week 4 contest at Cleveland
Insight: Kirkpatrick along with CB Leon Hall and S Reggie Nelson are all listed as doubtful. Browns' QB Brian Hoyer could have another good day after throwing for three touchdowns last weekend.
Leon Hall, CB9/27/2013 4:06:00 PM
Description: Bengals cornerback Leon Hall is one of three defensive backs not expected to play on Sunday.
Insight: Hall along with CB Dre Kirkpatrick and S Reggie Nelson are all listed as doubtful. The injuries could make it easier for Browns' QB Brian Hoyer to succeed.
BenJarvus Green-Ellis, RB9/27/2013 2:05:00 PM
Description: Bengals running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis was a full participant in the last two practices and is expected to play Sunday.
Insight: Green-Ellis is on track to play, but given his production to date, 2.8 ypc, he's not as good an option as rookie Giovani Bernard (5.0 ypc).
BenJarvus Green-Ellis, RB9/25/2013 4:23:00 PM
Description: Bengals running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis was limited in Wednesday's practice due to an ankle injury.
Insight: Green-Ellis is on track to play, but given his production to date, 2.8 ypc, he's not as good an option as rookie Giovani Bernard.
Adam Jones, CB9/23/2013 8:49:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati cornerback Adam Jones was arrested yet again on Monday morning. SOURCE: ABC Cincinnati
Insight: The charge he's facing is disorderly conduct. Given Pacman's past criminal history, you'd have to think a suspension is coming. So far, Jones has 12 tackles and one forced fumble this season.
Giovani Bernard, RBHot9/22/2013 6:18:00 PM
Description: Bengals rookie running back Giovani Bernard continues to run circles around teammate BenJarvus Green-Ellis. Bernard had 99 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown on 14 touches Sunday against the Packers.
Insight: Green-Ellis had 29 yards and a touchdown while losing a fumble on 10 carries. The workload should continue to move in Bernard's favor going forward.
Giovani Bernard, RB9/20/2013 1:35:00 PM
Description: Bengals rookie running back Giovani Bernard was limited in practice over the last two days while dealing with a hamstring issue.
Insight: Coach Marvin Lewis said it was just precautionary, sitting Bernard, who posted fantasy-worthy numbers on Monday night against Pittsburgh. He rushed for 38 yards and a score on eight carries and caught a screen pass for 27 yards and a score. We expect him to play on Sunday despite the questionable tag.
Robert Geathers, DE9/18/2013 4:10:00 PM
Description: Bengals DE Robert Geathers will be placed on IR with an elbow injury, ending his season, according to Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Insight: Geathers wasn't producing much in the way of sacks or tackles, so this isn't the end of the world for a strong Bengals defense
BenJarvus Green-Ellis, RB9/8/2013 4:59:00 PM
Description: Bengals running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis outcarried rookie Giovani Bernard 14-4 in the season opener but only outgained him by three yards.
Insight: This is why Green-Ellis will eventually be giving up his job to Bernard. The Law Firm averaged 1.8 yards per carry and finished with 25 yards, though he did salvage his day with a touchdown. Bernard had 22 rushing yards and caught one pass for eight yards.
A.J. Green, WR9/8/2013 4:56:00 PM
Description: Bengals receiver A.J. Green had a monster game in Week 1 against the Bears, catching nine passes for 162 yards and two touchdowns.
Insight: Andy Dalton can be shaky at times but at least he knows how to get the football to his No. 1 wideout. The third-year receiver should finish in the top three at his position.
Andrew Whitworth, OT9/7/2013 12:43:00 PM
Description: Bengals offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth has been ruled out for Sunday's season opener, according to bengals.com
Insight: The result is that backup Anthony Collins will have his hands full with the Bears' Julius Peppers and quarterback Andy Dalton isn't likely to have time to throw many deep balls.
Geno Atkins, DT9/2/2013 12:19:00 PM
Description: Bengals defensive tackle Geno Atkins has agreed to a five-year, $55 million contract extension. SOURCE: Joe Reedy, Cincinnati Enquirer
Insight: It's the second-largest contract for a defensive tackle in NFL history. The raise is a well-deserved one as Atkins (12.5 sacks in 2012) was half a sack away from tying Eddie Edwards' team record last season. He's been named an All-Pro twice in the last three seasons.
Greg McElroy, QB9/2/2013 9:39:00 AM
Description: Former Jets QB Greg McElroy is headed to Cincinnati where NFL Network's Ian Rapoport expects him to join the Bengals' practice squad.
Insight: Andy Dalton hasn't missed a game in his two seasons in the league so the likelihood of McElroy becoming a fantasy asset, or even taking the field for Cincinnati, is pretty remote.
A.J. Green, WR8/14/2013 2:18:00 PM
Description: Bengals star wide receiver A.J. Green returned to practice after missing practice time and the first preseason game due to a knee injury.
Insight: He has had plenty of time to recover so this shouldn't affect his value. He's a top-five fantasy option at the wideout position.
Andrew Hawkins, WR8/11/2013 4:11:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati wideout Andrew Hawkins faces a lengthy absence after suffering a high ankle sprain in practice last week. SOURCE: Geoff Hobson, Bengals.com
Insight: Head coach Marvin Lewis acknowledged that Hawkins may be headed for the short-term injured reserve list, which would sideline him until at least Week 9. Hawkins caught 51 passes for 533 yards and four touchdowns in 2012.
Rex Burkhead, RB8/9/2013 1:57:00 PM
Description: Bengals rookie Rex Burkhead looked sharp, rushing for 52 yards on nine carries against Atlanta, in the first preseason game for each team.
Insight: Burkhead has some talent, but with BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Giovani Bernard ahead of him on the depth chart he doesn't figure to get much work this season.
Tyler Eifert, TE8/4/2013 12:55:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati Bengals rookie tight end Tyler Eifert has looked very good at training camp and may convince OC Jay Gruden to play him split out as well as in two tight end sets.
Insight: Eifert has excellent size at 6-foot-5 and plays like a big receiver. He'll have to fight for targets in his first year and likely won't have much fantasy value this season, but down the road has a nice upside.
A.J. Green, WR8/2/2013 7:17:00 PM
Description: A.J. Green isn't expected to play in the Bengals' preseason opener Thursday against the Falcons. SOURCE: Cincinnati Enquirer
Insight: A knee injury has kept Green out of commission for over a week. He has plenty of time to recover before the season starts so this shouldn't affect his value if you have a draft coming up.
A.J. Green, WR7/26/2013 3:53:00 PM
Description: Bengals receiver A.J. Green suffered a bruised left knee Thursday and will sit out practices over the weekend, according to Joe Kay of the Associated Press.
Insight: Green's MRI revealed no structural damage, but the team has no need to rush the talented young wideout back to practice.
BenJarvus Green-Ellis, RB7/25/2013 9:43:00 PM
Description: Bengals OC Jay Gruden hinted that the team could end up going with a 50-50 split at running back between BenJarvus Green-Ellis and rookie Giovani Bernard.
Insight: Green-Ellis produced his second career 1,000-yard season in 2012, his first with the Bengals, but he rushed for just 3.9 ypc and scored six touchdowns. Bernard, a second-rounder in the 2013 NFL Draft, is a more elusive back who is a much better receiver than Green-Ellis.
Giovani Bernard, RB7/25/2013 12:06:00 PM
Description: Offensive coordinator Jay Gruden gave the impression that Bengals rookie running back Giovani Bernard could see a 50-50 split in opportunities with returning starter BenJarus Green-Ellis, according to a Cincinnati.com report.
Insight: Bernard should be Cincinnati's change-of-pace and third-down receiving back and now could get a significant split of the carries. He has excellent hands and if Gruden is being truthful should see between 12-14 touches a game behind starter BenJarvus Green-Ellis. That would make him a viable RB2 option.
