Atlanta Falcons Player Notes
For The Last 365 Days

Steven Jackson, RB7/29/2014 6:22:00 PM
Description: Atlanta running back Steven Jackson suffered a left hamstring injury Monday, according to Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com.
Insight: It isn't the same hamstring that Jackson strained last season. Falcons coach Mike Smith said he's fully confident Jackson will be ready for Week 1, but the injury is a reminder that Jackson isn't getting any younger. The 31-year-old missed four games last year and rushed for just 3.5 ypc. Rookie Devonta Freeman has a good chance to start at some point this season.
Roddy White, WR7/24/2014 11:46:00 AM
Description: The Falcons have signed receiver Roddy White to a three-year extension, according to Adam Schefter.
Insight: White came on strong in December after an injury-plagued first three months. The 32-year-old is eighth among active players in career receiving yards with 9,436 in nine seasons in the league. He and Julio Jones make up one of the league's top tandems.
Sean Weatherspoon, LB6/10/2014 9:07:00 PM
Description: Atlanta linebacker Sean Weatherspoon has suffered a ruptured Achilles. He'll miss the entire 2014 season. SOURCE: Vaughn McClure, ESPN
Insight: Knee and foot injuries limited Weatherspoon to seven games last season. Even when healthy, which hasn't been the case in quite some time, Weatherspoon has had a tendency to miss tackles. This injury certainly won't help him going into free agency next season.
Julio Jones, WR6/10/2014 8:03:00 PM
Description: According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Falcons receiver Julio Jones (foot) is hoping to be back by Week 1 of the regular season.
Insight: He had to have season-ending foot surgery after five games in 2013. Prior to the injury, Jones was finally reaching his enormous potential and had accumulated 580 yards and two touchdowns on 41 catches, a pace of 131 receptions and 1,856 yards per 16 games.
Julio Jones, WR5/2/2014 8:34:00 PM
Description: The Falcons have picked up Julio Jones' option for 2015. SOURCE: Jay Glazer, Fox Sports
Insight: He missed most of last season due to foot surgery. If healthy, Jones should be a top-five fantasy wide receiver next season. If not, it will mean more targets for Roddy White and Harry Douglas.
Devin Hester, KR3/20/2014 5:51:00 PM
Description: Atlanta has reached a three-year deal with return specialist Devin Hester. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: The 31-year-old returned 52 kickoffs for an average of 27.6 yards in 2013. He also totaled 256 yards and one touchdown as a punt returner last season (18 attempts). A former receiver and defensive back, Hester was used exclusively on special teams last season.
Thomas DeCoud, S3/11/2014 6:37:00 PM
Description: As expected, the Falcons have released safety Thomas DeCoud. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: The manuever saves Atlanta about $3 million in cap space. DeCoud didn't record an interception last season, though that's probably because most teams weren't brave enough to throw in his direction. He'll be one of the most coveted defensive backs on the market this offseason.
Jason Snelling, RB3/4/2014 7:12:00 PM
Description: Falcons running back Jason Snelling announced his retirement on Tuesday. SOURCE: Jay Adams, AtlantaFalcons.com
Insight: Snelling was Atlanta's third-string back last season behind Steven Jackson and Jacquizz Rodgers. He'll finish his career with 168 catches, 1,249 receiving yards, 1,420 rushing yards and ten combined touchdowns in 96 appearances. He played his entire career with the Falcons.
Thomas DeCoud, S2/26/2014 10:04:00 AM
Description: The Falcons are expected to release free safety Thomas DeCoud before his salary increases from $2.3 million to $4.2 million five days after the new league year. SOURCE: Rand Getlin, Yahoo Sports
Insight: The next league year begins on March 11th, which means DeCoud will be unemployed in about two weeks. The 65 tackles DeCoud recorded this past season were his fewest since his rookie year in 2008. Despite this regression, he shouldn't have trouble finding a new team in free agency.
Tony Gonzalez, TE2/18/2014 2:32:00 PM
Description: Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez is joining The NFL Today on CBS in 2014.
Insight: It looks like it's official this time - Gonzo's retirement talk is for real. The personable Gonzalez should be an excellent addition to the NFL Today team, but no one on the current Atlanta roster can do what he did at tight end. He'll finish his 17-year career with 1,325 receptions for 15,127 yards and 111 TDs.
Tony Gonzalez, TE2/6/2014 8:54:00 PM
Description: Tight end Tony Gonzalez is once again wavering on his retirement. SOURCE: NBC's Pro Football Talk
Insight: Gonzalez acknowledged that he'd be interested in coming back for a contender during the stretch run next season. Tony G's last season in Atlanta certainly didn't go as planned as the Falcons slumped to 4-12 a year after going 13-3. The future Hall of Famer has only won one playoff game in his career.
Asante Samuel, CB2/5/2014 9:40:00 PM
Description: The Falcons have parted ways with cornerback Asante Samuel. SOURCE: Alex Marvez, Fox Sports 1
Insight: Samuel recorded just 30 tackles this past season, his fewest since 2010. Atlanta is saving $4 million by releasing Samuel. He won't get more than a one or two-year deal in free agency.
Roddy White, WR12/30/2013 9:28:00 PM
Description: The Falcons are hoping to sign receiver Roddy White to an extension this offseason. SOURCE: D. Orlando Ledbetter, Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Insight: White came on strong in December after an injury-plagued first three months. The 32-year-old is eighth among active players in career receiving yards with 9,436 in nine seasons in the league.
Jacquizz Rodgers, RB12/25/2013 4:38:00 PM
Description: Falcons running back Jacquizz Rodgers is dealing with a concussion and did not practice on Wednesday, according to the team's site.
Insight: Rodgers hasn't put up double-digits since Week 7. Not a coincidence that Steven jackson came back from injury in Week 8.
Steven Jackson, RB12/15/2013 5:16:00 PM
Description: Atlanta running back Steven Jackson found the end zone twice Sunday against Washington.
Insight: Much like Michael Turner last season, Jackson needs touchdowns to sustain his fantasy value. He's averaging just 3.5 ypc this season. He's scored five times over his last four games.
Roddy White, WR12/11/2013 4:06:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Roddy White (knee) was limited during Wednesday's practice, according to Vaughn McClure of espn.com.
Insight: White has pulled in 18 receptions for 217 yards on 24 targets the last two games after being limited by ankle and hamstring injuries all season. The knee injury is new but White should be able to play and is a high-upside WR2 in a matchup against the Redskins.
Thomas DeCoud, S12/8/2013 2:00:00 PM
Description: Atlanta safety Thomas DeCoud injured his head in a collision with Packers running back Eddie Lacy on Sunday. SOURCE: Jay Adams, AtlantaFalcons.com
Insight: He won't return. DeCoud contributed two tackles before exiting. Zeke Motta is in at free safety.
Tony Gonzalez, TE12/8/2013 11:34:00 AM
Description: Atlanta tight end Tony Gonzalez will play Sunday against the Packers.
Insight: Gonzalez (62 catches, 653 yards, 5 TD) has been nursing a toe injury for a few weeks but has yet to miss a game. Even at less than 100 percent, he's still one of the better tight end options in fantasy.
Roddy White, WR12/1/2013 7:47:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Roddy White had the game fantasy owners have been waiting for all season Sunday against the Bills, catching 10 of his 14 targets for 143 yards.
Insight: White played through a high-ankle sprain for the first five games and then sat out three games. He came in with just 20 catches, 209 yards and one touchdown on the year.
Steven Jackson, RB12/1/2013 7:45:00 PM
Description: Atlanta running back Steven Jackson had a season-high 84 rushing yards and two scores on 23 carries Sunday against the Bills in Toronto.
Insight: Jackson has scored three rushing touchdowns over the last two games. He's going to have to keep scoring to sustain his fantasy value, as he's averaging just 3.5 ypc this season.
Tony Gonzalez, TE12/1/2013 3:02:00 PM
Description: Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez (toe) is active for Sunday's game against the Bills.
Insight: Gonzalez hasn't cracked double-digit fantasy points in a month and has just one 100-yard day this season.
Steven Jackson, RB11/22/2013 9:48:00 AM
Description: Atlanta running back Steven Jackson combined for 79 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown Thursday night against New Orleans.
Insight: Jackson saw a solid 19 touches in eaning double-digit fantasy points for the first time since Week 1 (also against the Saints).
Matt Ryan, QB11/22/2013 9:43:00 AM
Description: Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan threw for 292 yards, but didn't throw a TD pass for the first time this season.
Insight: He came close as Darius Johnson was ruled down at the six inch line. At least he wasn't picked off after throwing nine interceptions in his last four games, but 13 points isn't going to be enough to beat New Orleans and Drew Brees very often.
Tony Gonzalez, TE11/21/2013 7:45:00 PM
Description: Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez (toe) is active for Thursday's game against the Saints.
Insight: Gonzalez is averaging 45.8 yards per game over his last five games and scored just one touchdown in that span, so even though he'll be on the field his fantasy value isn't that of a top-five tight end.
Roddy White, WR11/21/2013 11:34:00 AM
Description: Falcons receiver Roddy White finally caught a touchdown pass last Sunday, his first of the season.
Insight: White finally appeared healthy, but did have to face Darrelle Revis. He should get more chances this Thursday and could finally begin to repay fantasy owners for their patience.
Harry Douglas, WR11/21/2013 11:32:00 AM
Description: Falcons wideout Harry Douglas (knee) went off for 134 yards and a touchdown on six catches Sunday at Tampa Bay and should be a big factor against New Orleans Thursday night.
Insight: Douglas reversed a downward trend over the past few weeks. Even with Roddy White back in the lineup, Douglas will remain a solid option in a game in which the Falcons should be throwing the ball early and often to try and keep pace with Drew Brees and the Saints.
Tony Gonzalez, TE11/21/2013 11:28:00 AM
Description: Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez (toe) is listed as questionable for Thursday's game against the Saints, but coach Mike Smith confirmed he's expected to play dispite the 50-50 tag.
Insight: Gonzalez went through the team's walkthrough Wednesday after missing practice the previous two days. He's averaging 45.8 yards per game over his last five games and scored just one touchdown in that span, so even though he'll be on the field his fantasy value isn't great.
Tony Gonzalez, TE11/20/2013 6:09:00 PM
Description: Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez (toe) is questionable for Thursday's game against the Saints.
Insight: Gonzalez went through the team's walkthrough Wednesday after missing practice the previous two days. He's averaging 45.8 yards per game over his last five games and scored just one touchdown in that span.
Roddy White, WR11/17/2013 5:01:00 PM
Description: After struggling with injuries the entire season, Falcons receiver Roddy White finally caught a touchdown Sunday against the Buccaneers.
Insight: He pulled in a six-yard catch with 1:45 remaining and lost the ball while trying to back into the end zone. However, the play was ruled a touchdown upon review. White finally appears healthy but has had to face Richard Sherman and Darrelle Revis over the last two weeks. He can safely be put back in fantasy lineups in Week 12 against the Saints.
Harry Douglas, WR11/17/2013 4:59:00 PM
Description: Falcons wideout Harry Douglas (knee) went off for 134 yards and a touchdown on six catches Sunday at Tampa Bay.
Insight: Douglas, who was questionable with a knee injury, pulled in an 80-yard touchdown catch late in the third quarter. Even with Roddy White back in the lineup, Douglas will remain a WR2.
Tony Gonzalez, TE11/17/2013 3:50:00 PM
Description: Atlanta tight end Tony Gonzalez' third catch on Sunday gave him 50 receptions for the season and he's done that for 16 consecutive seasons.
Insight: Gonzalez has been a Hall of Fame tight end for a long time. This year isn't any different.
Harry Douglas, WR11/17/2013 11:42:00 AM
Description: Falcons wideout Harry Douglas (knee) is active Sunday at Tampa Bay.
Insight: Douglas' value took a hit when Roddy White returned to action last week, but with Darrelle Revis expected to cover White Sunday, Douglas could see close to the eight targets he drew in Week 10.
Tony Gonzalez, TE11/17/2013 11:40:00 AM
Description: Atlanta tight end Tony Gonzalez is active Sunday at Tampa Bay despite a toe injury.
Insight: Gonzalez has had poor production in three of the last four games as he has had to stay in to block more often due to Atlanta's offensive line issues. However, he's still a TE1 due to the lack of other viable options at the position.
Harry Douglas, WR11/17/2013 10:09:00 AM
Description: According to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, the Falcons expect wideout Harry Douglas (knee) to play Sunday at Tampa Bay.
Insight: Douglas' value took a hit when Roddy White returned to action last week, but with Darrelle Revis expected to cover White Sunday, Douglas could see close to the eight targets he drew in Week 10.
Jason Snelling, RB11/16/2013 10:17:00 AM
Description: Atlanta halfback Jason Snelling missed practice after being arrested on marijuana charges early Friday morning. SOURCE: Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Insight: Snelling has carried the ball just once in his last two games. He's a fantasy nonfactor.
Harry Douglas, WR11/15/2013 9:09:00 PM
Description: Falcons wideout Harry Douglas returned to practice after sitting out Thursday with a sore knee.
Insight: He should be able to play Sunday versus the Buccaneers. Right now, Douglas is on pace for 80 catches and 1,102 receiving yards. Both of those would be career-highs.
Tony Gonzalez, TE11/15/2013 9:07:00 PM
Description: Atlanta tight end Tony Gonzalez was back at practice Friday but only in a limited capacity. SOURCE: Vaughn McClure, ESPN
Insight: Clearly his toe is still bothering him. Don't be surprised if Gonzalez sits Sunday against Tampa Bay.
Tony Gonzalez, TE11/14/2013 10:04:00 PM
Description: Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez didn't practice Thursday but he's hoping he will on Friday. SOURCE: Falcons on Twitter
Insight: Gonzalez injured his toe in last week's loss to the Seahawks. Atlanta's next opponent is the 1-8 Buccaneers. Gonzalez had two catches for 30 yards against them in Week 7.
Harry Douglas, WR11/14/2013 10:02:00 PM
Description: Atlanta receiver Harry Douglas sat out practice Thursday because of a knee injury. SOURCE: Vaughn McClure, ESPN.com
Insight: Consider him questionable ahead of Sunday's game against the Buccaneers. If he plays, he'll be worth starting as Douglas had 149 yards and a touchdown in his last outing against Tampa Bay in Week 7.
Tony Gonzalez, TE11/13/2013 3:11:00 PM
Description: Atlanta tight end Tony Gonzalez (toe) missed practice Wednesday, according to Vaughn McClure of espn.com.
Insight: Gonzalez was seen limping around the locker room with a toe injury after Sunday's loss to the Seahawks. Gonzalez turned in one of his worst outings of the season on Sunday, catching just three passes for 29 yards. He's had to stay in and block far more often due to issues with Atlanta's offensive line.
Tony Gonzalez, TE11/11/2013 3:26:00 PM
Description: Atlanta tight end Tony Gonzalez is dealing with a toe injury and should be considered questionable for Week 11.
Insight: He was seen limping around the locker room after Sunday's loss to the Seahawks. Gonzalez turned in one of his worst outings of the season on Sunday, catching just three passes for 29 yards. Coach Mike Smith said he would know more on Wednesday.
Tony Gonzalez, TE11/10/2013 7:38:00 PM
Description: Atlanta tight end Tony Gonzalez may be dealing with a toe injury. SOURCE: ESPN
Insight: He was seen limping around the locker room after Sunday's loss to the Seahawks. Gonzalez turned in one of his worst outings of the season on Sunday, catching just three passes for 29 yards. The last thing the 2-7 Falcons need right now is another injury.
Roddy White, WR11/10/2013 11:50:00 AM
Description: After a three-week absence, Atlanta wide receiver Roddy White will finally return to the field Sunday against Seattle.
Insight: White had been out with a hamstring injury. It's a tough matchup but with Julio Jones out of the lineup, White should see more targets than he has all season. He's a flex consideration for Week 10.
Roddy White, WR11/7/2013 4:25:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Roddy White (ankle, hamstring) wouldn't say if he is 100 percent healthy, but did note that he could run at full speed, plant his feet and cut into his routes, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Insight: "How I felt at the beginning of the season and right now is totally different," White said. "I’ve been doing a lot of work inside the weight room and outside, getting myself ready to go. It’s going to be a battle out there. I’m excited. I just want to get back out there on the field and play." White is expected to return to action Sunday against Seattle after missing the last three games and playing hurt the first five. However, he'll have to face lockdown cornerback Richard Sherman so fantasy owners should leave him on the bench for another week.
Roddy White, WR11/7/2013 12:09:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Roddy White (ankle, hamstring) says he is pretty sure he is going to play Sunday against Seattle, according to Vaughn Mcclure.
Insight: White has been playing injured and doing nothing for fantasy owners. If healhty he'd be a stud with Julio Jones gone for the season, but over the first nine weeks he hasn't been able to do the things he usually does on the field.
Matt Ryan, QB11/3/2013 5:47:00 PM
Description: Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan has thrown seven interceptions over the last two games.
Insight: Ryan also has thrown for just one touchdown in each of the last two games after producing at least two in each of the first six this season. He has another tough matchup in Week 10 against the Seahawks after throwing for 219 yards, one TD and three INTs Sunday at Carolina. Hopefully he'll have a healthy Roddy White back for that one.
Roddy White, WR11/3/2013 12:11:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Roddy White (ankle, hamstring) is officially inactive for Sunday's game against the Panthers.
Insight: White is trying to get fully healthy before returning, and he's not there yet. Harry Douglas is a must-start WR1 and Drew Davis makes for a WR3 in deeper leagues.
Roddy White, WR11/3/2013 10:07:00 AM
Description: Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports Falcons receiver Roddy White (ankle, hamstring) is not expected to play Sunday against the Panthers "barring significant improvement."
Insight: Harry Douglas is a must-start even if White plays and Drew Davis makes for a WR3 in deeper leagues if White is out.
Roddy White, WR11/1/2013 12:25:00 PM
Description: Atlanta receiver Roddy White returned to practice on Friday, giving fantasy owners hope that he'll be on the field Sunday.
Insight: While he was limited to running, if he can run he should be able to play. So far this season even when White was on the field, he was mostly used as a decoy. Hopefully that will change soon.
Roddy White, WR10/30/2013 1:07:00 PM
Description: Atlanta receiver Roddy White's status remains in question for Sunday's game against Carolina. SOURCE: Joe Person, Charlotte Oberver
Insight: After going eight years straight without missing a game, White has now missed two contests in a row with a bum hamstring. Assuming he sits out again in Week 9, Harry Douglas, Drew Davis and tight end Tony Gonzalez will be Matt Ryan's main targets in the passing game.
Tony Gonzalez, TE10/29/2013 11:32:00 AM
Description: Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez said he would be open to a trade if he went to a contending team, according to a Vaughn McClure report.
Insight: The Falcons have said they weren't going to trade the future Hall of Fame tight end, but with the season pretty much over for Atlanta they might re-think the strategy. Gonzalez will retire after the season and the Falcons could use him to get more assets. Perhaps the Packers, who lost Jermichael Finley, would be a good landing spot for Gonzalez.
Steven Jackson, RB10/27/2013 3:08:00 PM
Description: Atlanta running back Steven Jackson, out since Week 2 with a hamstring injury, is active for the Week 8 game versus Arizona.
Insight: It's unknown if Jackson, who was back at practice on Wednesday, will be on a snap count. He should get the lion's share of the rushing workload which would allow Jacquizz Rodgers to help out as a pass catcher where the Falcons are missing both Julio Jones and Roddy White.
Roddy White, WR10/25/2013 4:43:00 PM
Description: Falcons wideout Roddy White (hamstring, ankle) has been ruled out for Week 8 against the Cardinals.
Insight: White missed his first game ever last week and he'll miss a second straight in Week 8 while trying to get fully healthy for the second half of the season. Harry Douglas is a must-start.
Steven Jackson, RB10/23/2013 3:34:00 PM
Description: Atlanta running back Steven Jackson, out since Week 2 with a hamstring injury, is expected to return Sunday against the Cardinals. SOURCE: D. Orlando Ledbetter, Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Insight: It's unknown if Jackson, who was back at practice on Wednesday, will be on a snap count. Fantasy owners should use a wait and see approach before letting go of backup Jacquizz Rodgers (four touchdowns in his last two games).
Matt Ryan, QB10/20/2013 5:22:00 PM
Description: Falcons QB Matt Ryan burned the Bucs (and fantasy owners who benched him) with 273 yards and three touchdowns on 20-of-26 passing in Week 7.
Insight: Ryan didn't miss Julio Jones and Roddy White much, as he had Harry Douglas and Jacquizz Rodgers making plays for him while Tony Gonzalez drew multiple defenders. Ryan has thrown for at least two touchdowns in all six of his games this season.
Tony Gonzalez, TE10/20/2013 5:15:00 PM
Description: Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez only saw four targets and had two catches for 30 yards Sunday against the Buccaneers.
Insight: With Julio Jones and Roddy White out, Tony G was expected to be Matt Ryan's No. 1 passing option but the Bucs weren't going to let him beat them. He remains a TE1.
Jacquizz Rodgers, RB10/20/2013 5:12:00 PM
Description: Falcons running back Jacquizz Rodgers had his second straight two-TD game Sunday against Tampa Bay.
Insight: Rodgers only had eight carries for 16 yards on the ground but he caught eight passes for 46 yards and two scores. Meanwhile, Jason Snelling had seven carries and zero targets. Rodgers should be started as a RB2 until Steven Jackson, who is out indefinitely after suffering a setback with his injured hamstring this week, returns.
Harry Douglas, WR10/20/2013 5:09:00 PM
Description: Falcons wideout Harry Douglas was an able replacement for Julio Jones and Roddy White Sunday against the Buccaneers. He caught all seven of his targets for 149 yards and a touchdown.
Insight: White will return at some point over the next few weeks but he's not guaranteed to be 100 percent anytime soon. That means Douglas will be a WR2 going forward.
Steven Jackson, RB10/20/2013 1:02:00 PM
Description: Falcons tailback Steven Jackson (hamstring) suffered a setback this week, reports FOX Sports' Jay Glazer.
Insight: Jackson is out indefinitely, leaving Jacquizz Rodgers and Jason Snelling to split playing time for the foreseeable future. Rodgers will see more carries and is the better option, but Snelling is a decent flex play in PPR leagues.
Steven Jackson, RB10/18/2013 4:11:00 PM
Description: Falcons tailback Steven Jackson (hamstring) has officially been ruled out for Week 7.
Insight: With Jackson still sidelined for Week 7, Jacquizz Rodgers and Jason Snelling will split the workload, with Rodgers making for the better fantasy play.
Roddy White, WR10/18/2013 3:36:00 PM
Description: Falcons wideout Roddy White (hamstring, ankle) has already been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers.
Insight: At least fantasy owners don't have to wonder whether to start him anymore. White aggravated his ankle injury in Week 4 against New England and added a hamstring injury to his list of issues in Week 5. This will be the first game White has ever missed.
Steven Jackson, RB10/18/2013 1:35:00 PM
Description: Falcons tailback Steven Jackson (hamstring) did not practice all week and doesn't appear to be that close to returning to the lineup.
Insight: With Jackson still sidelined for Week 7, Jacquizz Rodgers and Jason Snelling will split the workload, with Rodgers making for the better fantasy play.
Roddy White, WR10/17/2013 2:24:00 PM
Description: Falcons wideout Roddy White (hamstring, ankle) did not practice Wednesday or Thursday.
Insight: He aggravated the ankle injury in Week 4 against New England and added a hamstring injury to his list of issues in Week 5. That he's still unable to practice after Atlanta's bye week means you should be putting together an alternative plan as he's likely to miss the first game of his career.
Jason Snelling, RB10/16/2013 6:57:00 PM
Description: According to Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com, Falcons RB Jason Snelling (concussion) was a full participant in practice on Wednesday.
Insight: Snelling was medically cleared to return to practice Tuesday. The bye week probably helped him avoid missing a game due to his concussion. He's a low-end flex option for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers.
Steven Jackson, RB10/16/2013 6:55:00 PM
Description: Falcons tailback Steven Jackson (hamstring) did not practice Wednesday.
Insight: According to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Jackson's chances of playing in Week 7 against the Buccaneers are "not good." That leaves Jacquizz Rodgers and Jason Snelling to split snaps, with Rodgers making for the better fantasy play.
Roddy White, WR10/16/2013 6:39:00 PM
Description: Falcons wideout Roddy White (hamstring, ankle) did not practice Wednesday for the second straight day.
Insight: With the Falcons at 1-4, the decision to have White play through his ankle sprain looks like a poor one. He aggravated the injury in Week 4 against New England and added a hamstring injury to his list of issues in Week 5. That he's still unable to practice after Atlanta's bye week is not a good sign.
Tony Gonzalez, TE10/16/2013 10:26:00 AM
Description: Atlanta tight end Tony Gonzalez is expected to be Matt Ryan's No. 1 receiving target with Roddy White and Julio Jones out of the lineup Sunday against Tampa Bay. SOURCE: Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Insight: White (hamstring) technically hasn't been ruled out yet but even if he does play Sunday, he figures to be very limited. It's a dream matchup for Tony G as the Buccaneers are still winless at 0-5. Look for the 13-time Pro Bowler to be a top-five fantasy tight end in Week 7.
Steven Jackson, RB10/15/2013 4:47:00 PM
Description: Atlanta halfback Steven Jackson (hamstring) did not return to practice Tuesday.
Insight: Jackson injured his hamstring about a month ago and hasn't made much progress in his recovery. Jacquizz Rodgers had a big game in Week 5 and could be worth a start against the winless Buccaneers on Sunday.
Roddy White, WR10/15/2013 11:20:00 AM
Description: Falcons wideout Roddy White (hamstring and ankle injury) did not practice on Tuesday.
Insight: It's not good that coming off a bye week he still can't practice, White hasn't looked right all season and now with Julio Jones lost for the year, it may be Harry Douglas' time to shine. And ageless Tony Gonzalez.
Steven Jackson, RB10/14/2013 9:58:00 PM
Description: Atlanta halfback Steven Jackson hasn't resumed practicing yet and is unlikely to suit up Sunday versus Tampa Bay. SOURCE: Vaughn McClure, ESPN.com
Insight: Jackson injured his hamstring about a month ago and it doesn't appear he's made much progress in his recovery. Jacquizz Rodgers had a big game in Week 5 and could be worth a start against the winless Buccaneers on Sunday.
Jason Snelling, RB10/10/2013 10:20:00 AM
Description: According to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Falcons halfback Jason Snelling has entered the league's concussion protocol.
Insight: Snelling probably wouldn't have been available if the Falcons had a game this week but with the extra week to heal up, he should be a go for Week 7 versus Tampa Bay. That's the same week Steven Jackson is expected to return from his hamstring injury, which obviously isn't good for Snelling's fantasy value.
Roddy White, WR10/9/2013 7:46:00 PM
Description: The Falcons are concerned that Roddy White's hamstring injury may cause him to miss multiple games. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: These are uncharted waters for White, who has never missed a game in eight NFL seasons. He hasn't looked right all season and now with Julio Jones lost for the year, it may be time for the Falcons to just mail it in. Harry Douglas and tight end Tony Gonzalez should see increased production with White and Jones out of the lineup.
Julio Jones, WR10/9/2013 7:37:00 PM
Description: The Falcons have officially ruled Julio Jones out for the season. SOURCE: Chris Mortensen, ESPN
Insight: Jones broke his foot in Week 5 and is now slated for season-ending surgery. He had been on pace for a career-high 1,856 yards and 131 catches. Quarterback Matt Ryan should take a big hit in the rankings without Jones at his disposal.
Roddy White, WRCold10/8/2013 7:53:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Roddy White (ankle, hamstring) is "probably 50-50 at best" for Week 7 against the Buccaneers. SOURCE: Jason Cole, National Football Post
Insight: White aggravated his ankle sprain in Week 4 against the Patriots and then suffered a hamstring injury Monday night against the Jets. With Julio Jones (foot) expected to miss the rest of the season and White dealing with nagging injuries, fantasy owners should make Harry Douglas the No. 1 waiver priority this week. Atlanta has a bye in Week 6 but Douglas will start in Week 7.
Julio Jones, WR10/8/2013 7:50:00 PM
Description: According to Jason Cole of NationalFootballPost.com, a Falcons source said that receiver Julio Jones broke the screw that was put in his foot during a 2011 surgery.
Insight: Jones is expected to miss the rest of the season with the injury. With Roddy White (ankle, hamstring) also questionable for Week 7, Harry Douglas should be a hot waiver pickup this week.
Harry Douglas, WR10/8/2013 1:30:00 PM
Description: Falcons wideout Harry Douglas could be the top pickup this week if rumors concerning Julio Jones being done for the season prove to be correct.
Insight: Douglas has always been stuck behind Roddy White and Jones, but could see a serious increase in targets if Jones is out of the picture.
Julio Jones, WR10/8/2013 1:24:00 PM
Description: Atlanta wideout Julio Jones, who was spotted limping out of the x-ray room after Monday night's loss to the New York Jets, might be sidelined for the remainder of the season, according to Jay Glazer.
Insight: Jones had eight catches for 99 yards, but couldn't score. If Jones is out for the season, Harry Douglas' stock should take a huge jump.
Julio Jones, WR10/8/2013 10:46:00 AM
Description: Atlanta wideout Julio Jones was spotted limping out of the x-ray room after Monday night's loss to the New York Jets, according to nfl.com reporter Jeff Darlington.
Insight: Jones had eight catches for 99 yards, but could score. Fortunately for Jones and his fantasy owners, the Falcons have a bye in Week 6 and he should be ready to go after the extra rest.
Asante Samuel, CB10/7/2013 7:52:00 PM
Description: Asante Samuel will start at left corner Monday night against the Jets.
Insight: Samuel hasn't played since Week 3 because of a thigh injury. He's logged just two tackles in two games this season.
Roddy White, WRCold10/4/2013 2:40:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Roddy White (ankle) re-injured his ankle in the Sunday night game against New England, according to an Atlanta Journal-Constitution report.
Insight: White played almost every down against the Pats, but fantasy owners shouldn't expect him to be healthy until after their Week 6 bye ... at the earliest.
Roddy White, WRCold9/26/2013 3:52:00 PM
Description: Hobbled Falcons receiver Roddy White (ankle) practiced Thursday, according to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Insight: White played 47-of-66 snaps Sunday against the Dolphins, a season high, but he still wasn't involved much in the offense. Fantasy owners would be better off going with another option again in Week 4 against the Patriots.
Steven Jackson, RB9/23/2013 8:54:00 PM
Description: Injured Falcons running back Steven Jackson (hamstring) isn't expected to be back until after the team's bye week. SOURCE: ESPN
Insight: Atlanta has its bye in Week 6. The Falcons will roll with Jacquizz Rodgers and Jason Snelling in the meantime. Rodgers may get more carries but Snelling (two TD) is the more appealing fantasy option.
Steven Jackson, RB9/20/2013 7:11:00 PM
Description: According to Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com, it "looks like" Falcons running back Steven Jackson (thigh) will be out three weeks.
Insight: The Falcons have a bye in Week 6, so we might not see Jackson on the field again until Week 7. Jacquizz Rodgers and Jason Snelling will split playing time in his absence.
Julio Jones, WR9/20/2013 4:05:00 PM
Description: Atlanta wideout Julio Jones is listed as questionable, but is expected to play.
Insight: Jones went off for 11 catches and 182 yards receiving in the 31-24 Falcons victory. The highlight of the game had to be Julio's effortless 81-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter. The 24-year-old's talent knows no bounds and a sore knee won't stop him.
Roddy White, WRCold9/20/2013 4:03:00 PM
Description: Hobbled Falcons receiver Roddy White was a limited participant in practice and is listed as questionable just as he was last week.
Insight: White won't be fantasy worthy until he is over his high-ankle sprain which is still a couple of weeks away. He'll be in uniform, but his five receptions for 40 yards over the first two weeks tells you all you need to know. Looks elsewhere for receiving help.
Steven Jackson, RB9/17/2013 5:35:00 PM
Description: According to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Falcons coach Mike Smith ruled out Steven Jackson for Week 3 due to a thigh injury.
Insight: "It's short term," Smith said. "Don't know if that's two or three weeks." Fantasy owners should prepare to be without Jackson until at least Week 5 and possibly longer, as the Falcons have a bye in Week 6. Jacquizz Rodgers and Jason Snelling will split carries and neither is a good flex play.
Jacquizz Rodgers, RB9/17/2013 1:30:00 PM
Description: Atlanta Falcons backup running back Jacquizz Rodgers is likely to see a massive increase in playing time with Steve Jackson expected to be sidelined for a few week.
Insight: Rodgers saw 15 touches last week in an emergency role and though he only produced 45 yards, he could be a viable low-end fantasy value for the next few weeks.
Steven Jackson, RB9/17/2013 1:25:00 PM
Description: According to Ian Rapoprt of NFL.com, Falcons running back Steven Jackson (thigh injury) could miss 2-4 weeks.
Insight: It's a tough break for Jackson. He missed about a month in 2011 with a similar quad injury. The Falcons have Jacquizz Rodgers (15 touches last week) and Jason Snelling (six touches) to replace him. Rodgers has the higher fantasy value while Jackson is sidelined.
Kroy Biermann, DE9/16/2013 3:02:00 PM
Description: Falcons placed DE/LB Kroy Biermann (Achilles) on injured reserve with an Achilles injury.
Insight: Biermann did a lot of things for this defense both on the front line and as a linebacker.
Bradie Ewing, FB9/16/2013 2:56:00 PM
Description: Atlanta has placed Bradie Ewing on the injured reserve with a separated shoulder.
Insight: Ewing was the only fulback on the Falcons' roster, so they will have to make a move later in the week.
Sean Weatherspoon, LB9/16/2013 11:16:00 AM
Description: Falcons LB Sean Weatherspoon suffered a foot sprain, according to Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports 1.
Insight: It's not believed to be serious, but you always have to worry with this type of injury. Weatherspoon is questionable for the Week 3 matchup with 2-0 Miami.
Asante Samuel, CB9/16/2013 11:14:00 AM
Description: Falcons corner Asante Samuel aggravated his thigh injury in the first quarter Sunday against the Rams, but it's not supposed to be too bad, according to a FOX Sports source.
Insight: We should know the extent of the injury when the team practices this week. Samuel will be needed in Week 3 when the Falcons face Miami and the combination of Mike Wallace and Brian Hartline.
Roddy White, WRCold9/15/2013 6:30:00 PM
Description: Hobbled Falcons receiver Roddy White was only targeted three times in Week 2.
Insight: White caught all three passes that came his way but he only totaled 21 yards. Until he gets over this high ankle sprain, we'd hesitate to start him.
Julio Jones, WR9/15/2013 6:17:00 PM
Description: Atlanta wideout Julio Jones was unstoppable Sunday against the Rams.
Insight: He went off for 11 catches and 182 yards receiving in the 31-24 Falcons victory. The highlight of the game had to be Julio's effortless 81-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter. The 24-year-old's talent knows no bounds.
Matt Ryan, QB9/15/2013 6:14:00 PM
Description: Falcons QB Matt Ryan (374 passing yards, 2 TD) had a monster fantasy day Sunday versus St. Louis.
Insight: Ryan did most of his damage in the first half as the Falcons got out to an early 21-0 lead. Including the postseason, Matty Ice has now thrown for 300 yards or more in each of his last three contests.
Asante Samuel, CB9/15/2013 1:49:00 PM
Description: Falcons corner Asante Samuel is headed to the locker room after aggravating his thigh injury in the first quarter Sunday against the Rams.
Insight: The Falcons have built a 21-0 cushion already and with the way Matt Ryan is throwing the ball right now, they're unlikely to relinquish it. The size of Atlanta's lead could dictate whether or not Samuel returns.
Steven Jackson, RB9/15/2013 1:28:00 PM
Description: Falcons running back Steven Jackson left Sunday's game with a thigh injury. According to the team's Twitter page, his return is questionable.
Insight: It's a tough break for Jackson, who had been looking forward to this week's matchup against his old team. Jacquizz Rodgers stands the most to gain in his absence.
Julio Jones, WR9/15/2013 11:13:00 AM
Description: Falcons receiver Julio Jones (knee) is expected to play Sunday against the Rams.
Insight: Jones missed practice Wednesday but returned in a limited capacity Thursday and Friday. Fantasy owners can leave him in the lineup.
Roddy White, WR9/13/2013 7:31:00 PM
Description: Updating a previous report, Atlanta receiver Roddy White did return to limited practice on Friday and he will play Sunday against St. Louis. SOURCE: D. Orlando Ledbetter, Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Insight: White saw limited snaps in Week 1 because of a high ankle sprain. It's clear that he isn't 100 percent and he may not be for several more weeks. He'll be a risky fantasy play in Week 2.
Roddy White, WR9/13/2013 3:11:00 PM
Description: Falcons wideout Roddy White (ankle) sat out another practice on Friday.
Insight: White has a high-ankle sprain and likely will be a game-time decision Sunday against the Rams. White tweeted this advice to fantasy owners after Week 1: "As far as fantasy if I don't participate in practice than don't start me it's a red flag." Take his advice and bench him.
Roddy White, WR9/12/2013 4:14:00 PM
Description: Falcons wideout Roddy White (ankle) sat out of practice again Thursday.
Insight: White has a high-ankle sprain and likely will be a game-time decision Sunday against the Rams. White tweeted this advice to fantasy owners after Week 1: "As far as fantasy if I don't participate in practice than don't start me it's a red flag." Take his advice and bench him.
Julio Jones, WR9/12/2013 4:10:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Julio Jones (knee) returned to practice Thursday in a limited capacity, according to Jay Adams of AtlantaFalcons.com.
Insight: Jones missed practice Wednesday with a knee injury but he is expected to play Sunday and should be started as a WR1.
Roddy White, WR9/11/2013 7:53:00 PM
Description: Falcons wideout Roddy White (ankle) missed Wednesday's practice.
Insight: White has a high-ankle sprain and likely will be a game-time decision Sunday against the Rams. If he does play, fantasy owners should avoid him. He had just two catches in the opener while Harry Douglas stepped up with four catches for 93 yards.
Julio Jones, WR9/11/2013 7:47:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Julio Jones (knee) didn't practice Wednesday.
Insight: With Roddy White dealing with a high-ankle sprain, the Falcons can ill afford to lose Jones, but the third-year receiver is not in danger of missing Sunday's game at this point.
Roddy White, WR9/9/2013 7:49:00 PM
Description: Injured Falcons wideout Roddy White was limited to just two catches Sunday against New Orleans.
Insight: White was hobbling around on a high ankle sprain and acknowledged that it will probably be a few weeks until he's back to 100 percent. We'd avoid using him until then.
Asante Samuel, CB9/8/2013 11:48:00 AM
Description: Atlanta cornerback Asante Samuel won't be on the field Sunday against New Orleans.
Insight: Samuel, who is dealing with a thigh injury, took part in warmups but the Falcons decided he wasn't ready to play. His absence is obviously great news for owners of Drew Brees and any of the Saints' top receivers (Jimmy Graham, Marques Colston, Lance Moore and Darren Sproles).
Roddy White, WR9/8/2013 11:15:00 AM
Description: According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Falcons say Roddy White (ankle) will start Sunday against the Saints.
Insight: Schefter reported Sunday that the ankle injury White suffered during the preseason was actually a high-ankle sprain, but the Falcons have denied that. White has played in 128 of 128 games in his career and he looks ready to extend that streak, but he might just be used as a decoy against the Saints. Consider White a risky WR3 Sunday.
Roddy White, WR9/8/2013 10:48:00 AM
Description: A source with knowledge of he situation confirms Adam Schefter's report that Roddy White has a high-ankle sprain and is unlikely to play Sunday. In fact, the source says White's chances of playing are just 20 percent. SOURCE: ProFootballTalk.com
Insight: White, who has played in 128 of 128 games in his career, suffered what was thought to be a minor ankle sprain during the preseason, but it appears the Falcons weren't being completely honest. The receiver said earlier this week he was "100 percent certain" he would play. Jeff Darlington of NFL.com also reported Sunday that White would play. Fantasy owners are better off waiting until the inactives are announced before making any lineup decisions regarding White.
Roddy White, WR9/8/2013 10:06:00 AM
Description: According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Falcons receiver Roddy White has a high-ankle sprain that will make it "challenging" to play Sunday's game against the Saints.
Insight: White suffered what was thought to be a minor ankle sprain during the preseason, but it appears the Falcons weren't being completely honest. White has played in 128 of 128 over his eight-year career; if he does play to extend the streak, he'll likely be limited but should still be in fantasy lineups. We'll know if he's inactive before noon ET.
Roddy White, WR9/7/2013 6:57:00 PM
Description: According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Falcons receiver Roddy White (ankle) is questionable for Week 1.
Insight: White suffered a minor ankle sprain in the second preseason game and should be fine to play despite the questionable tag. He has played in 128 of 128 over his eight-year career. Make sure he's in your lineup Sunday against the Saints.
Asante Samuel, CB9/6/2013 7:46:00 PM
Description: Falcons cornerback Asante Samuel is questionable for Sunday's season opener against the Saints. He's battling a thigh injury. SOURCE: Falcons on Twitter
Insight: Samuel was a limited participant at practice on Friday. He'll have his hands full if he plays on Sunday. New Orleans has led the league in passing offense each of the last two seasons.
Roddy White, WR9/5/2013 2:00:00 PM
Description: According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Falcons receiver Roddy White (ankle) will be "ready to go" in Week 1.
Insight: White suffered a minor ankle sprain in the second preseason game, but was never expected to miss Week 1. He simply doesn't miss games having played in 128 of 128 over his eight-year career. Make sure he's in your lineup Sunday against the Saints.
Roddy White, WR9/4/2013 5:47:00 PM
Description: According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Falcons receiver Roddy White (ankle) returned to practice Wednesday.

Roddy White, WR8/30/2013 10:37:00 PM
Description: According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Falcons coach Mike Smith expects receiver Roddy White (ankle) to be ready for Week 1.
Insight: "I think all of those guys (White, Stephen Nicholas and Matt Bryant) are on schedule to get back with us and be playing this week," Falcons coach Mike Smith said. "That’s what we are anticipating at this point in time. We’ll have our official, we are out of the preseason, we’ll start our official regular season with Wednesday, Thursday and Friday updates in terms of what the NFL requires us to do in regards to our injury report."
Tony Gonzalez, TE8/21/2013 9:58:00 AM
Description: Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez, who was allowed to miss the first part of training camp, apparently arrived in good shape and will play in Saturday's exhibition game.
Insight: The consumate pro, Gonzalez should be ready when the whistle blows. He can still compete at a high level and knows the plays (93-930-8 in 2012), so didn't really need five weeks to prepare.
Roddy White, WR8/16/2013 4:56:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Roddy White has been diagnosed with a low-ankle sprain according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.
Insight: White suffered the injury during Thursday's preseason game. He would play through it if this were the regular season, but he might be held out of the third preseason contest. The injury doesn't affect his draft stock at all.
Steven Jackson, RB8/16/2013 10:52:00 AM
Description: Atlanta running back Steven Jackson looks to be a perfect fit for the Falcons' offense after rushing eight times for 42 yards and catching a pass for 13 yards in the second exhibition games of the season Thursday.
Insight: Jackson will give Atlanta's offense a new dynamic in 2013 replacing the plodding Michael Turner. The Falcons' offense looked very strong in posting 20 first-half points on the defending Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens.
Roddy White, WR8/15/2013 9:33:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Roddy White left Thursday's preseason game with an ankle injury. SOURCE: Chris Wesseling, NFL.com
Insight: The injury occurred in the second quarter. It didn't look too serious but the Falcons will probably keep White out as a precaution. We should have an update on his status after the game.
Julio Jones, WR8/13/2013 6:00:00 PM
Description: Falcons receiver Julio Jones (hamstring) is expected to play in the team's second preseason game, according to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
Insight: Jones sat out the preseason opener as a precaution. He dealt with hamstring issues as a rookie and missed three games, but he was active for all 16 games last year.
Tony Gonzalez, TE8/6/2013 11:16:00 AM
Description: Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez is only scheduled to play in the final two exhibition games, according to an Atlanta Journal-Constitution report.
Insight: Don't discount his value when you fail to see him in the first two games. Gonzalez can still compete at a high level and knows the plays (93-930-8 in 2012), so doesn't really need much time to get ready.
