Description: Grizzlies power forward Zach Randolph is not exepted to play Saturday while dealing with a swollen right knee.
Insight: Randolph has missed three games due to the knee issue which are chronic for the double-double machine. He's averaging 16.1 ppg, 11.4 rpg so fantasy owners need him back soon. Jon Leuer has started two of the three games he's missed, but hasn't done enough with the opportunities.
Description: Timberwolves forward Thaddeus Young led the team with 23 points and added six rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals.
Insight: Young had a solid all-around fantasy day even his free-throw shooting (3-of-4). He's just a bit too inconsistent for fantasy owners as his last five scoring totals indicate (29, 13, 8, 13, 23).
Description: Pistons forward Greg Monroe recorded a double-double on Friday.
Insight: In a game that featured Andre Drummond and Roy Hibbert, Monroe had a game-high 15 rebounds along with 19 points, shooting 7-of-11. Monroe also had three steals, a block and an assist. With no Josh Smith, Monroe is the clear power forward option in Detroit and thus sees a boost in fantasy value.
Description: Bucks forward Jared Dudley scored in double figures for the fourth straight game on Friday, leading the team with 24 points.
Insight: Dudley's sudden scoring burst can mostly be credited to his great 3-point shooting. Over the last four games, he is 10-for-16 from behind the arc. On Friday, Dudley was a perfect 10-for-10 from the field. He is playing a decent amount of minutes, but fantasy owners will have to count on his hot shooting continuing to make him a player worth starting.
Description: Cavaliers forward LeBron James scored 15 points in the final quarter to lead Cleveland over Orland, 98-89.
Insight: James finished with 29 points, shooting 50 percent from the floor and 9-of-11 at the line. James' two misses were the only missed Cleveland free throws of the game as the team shot 92.3 percent at the line. James also had eight assists, five rebounds, two steals and two blocks. He is obviously a must-start every game, but as long as Kyrie Irving is out, James will handle the ball more and accumulate more stats.
Description: Warriors small forward Harrison Barnes recorded a double-double on Christmas Day versus the Clippers.
Insight: Golden State had balanced scoring as six different players reached double figures, but no one scored 20 and the Warriors lost, 100-86, to the Clippers. Barnes had 12 points, shooting 5-for-13, with 13 rebounds.
Description: Heat forward Luol Deng had a big second half as the Miami Heat downed the Cleveland Cavsd in LeBron James' return to Miami.
Insight: Deng hit 11-of-16 for 25 points and pulled in eight rebounds with eight assists in 40 minutes. That's what we used to see from Deng in Chicago and we hope to see more of it in Miami. He was averaging 14.3 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 1.5 apg heading into this contest.
Description: Grizzlies power forward Zach Randolph is questionable for Friday's game against Houston while dealing with a swollen right knee. UPDATE: Randolph will not play.
Insight: Randolph has missed two games due to the knee issue which are chronic for the double-double machine. He's averaging 16.1 ppg, 11.4 rpg so fantasy owners need him back soon. Jon Leuer has seen an average 28 mpg over the past two contests, averaging 10 ppg and 6.0 rpg.
Description: Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony scored 34 points, but he needed 28 shots to get there.
Insight: Anthony's total wasn't enough to get the Knicks a win and they lost for a league-leading 26th time. Melo has scored 30 or more in four straight Christmas Day games. Overall it's been a disappointing season with his averages down in points and rebounds.
Description: Forward Josh Smith, recently waived by the Detroit Pistons, is expected to sign with the Houston Rockets.
Insight: Smith was averaging 13.1 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 4.7 apg, 1.3 spg in Detroit but his presence was stunting Greg Monroe's growth. Smith should step into the power forward slot open by the injury to Terrence Jones.
Description: Thunder small forward Kevin Durant (ankle) is expected to miss Thursday's game against San Antonio.
Insight: For now, consider him day-to-day, but this will be his fourthconsecutive miss. Perry Jones should start but has little to no fantasy value. Russell Westbrook and Reggie Jackson get to shoot more with Durant sidelined.
Description: Nets center Mason Plumlee recorded a double-double on Tuesday.
Insight: Plumlee had 19 points and 13 rebounds while shooting 9-of-14 from the field. Although he won't shoot that way very often, if he plays 40 minutes like he did on Tuesday, Plumlee is fantasy relevant.
Description: Hawks small forward DeMarre Carroll hit a season-high five 3-pointers in the victory over the Clippers on Tuesday.
Insight: Carroll's 3-point percentage is down this month compared to November, but he certainly helped that percentage making 5-of-6 3-pointers on Tuesday. Carroll scored 25 points which is also a season-high.
Description: Cavaliers power forward Kevin Love had a double-double against his former team on Tuesday.
Insight: Love scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds versus the Timberwolves. Love made one 3-pointer and went 9-for-11 at the line. His numbers aren't as good as they were in Minnesota, but for the most part, they are improving. Although his scoring is down, Love is averaging nearly 3.5 more rpg in December than he did in November.
Description: Pelicans power forward Anthony Davis had a subpar fantasy night for his standards.
Insight: Davis has really set the bar high through the first 25 percent of the season, so it is a little unfair to expect him to average 24.7 ppg, 10.2 rpg and 2.92 bpg while shooting nearly 58 percent. On Tuesday, Davis scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds while shooting 44 percent.
Description: Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony scored a team-high 28 points during Sunday's loss to the Raptors.
Insight: He went 12-of-26 from the field and 3-of-5 from the line. Anthony also had five rebounds, three assists, one 3-pointer, one steal, and two turnovers. Owners are just hoping he can stay on the floor.
Description: Grizzlies power forward Zach Randolph is expected to miss Sunday's game against Cleveland.
Insight: Randolph is dealing with his chronic knees. He played just 22 minutes Friday after playing too many the previous game (48). He's averaging a double-double (16.1 ppg, 11.4 rpg, 1.2 apg, 1.0 spg.).
Description: Clipper power forward Blake Griffin had a typical night during Saturday's victory against the Bucks.
Insight: Griffin went 10-of-17 from the field and 4-of-5 from the line for 24 points. He also chipped in eight assists, six rebounds, one steal, and four turnovers. Griffin is averaging 23.2 ppg, 7.8 rpg, and 4.4 apg on the season.
Description: Bucks guard Giannis Antetokounmpo filled the stat sheet during Saturday's loss to the Clippers.
Insight: He was 8-of-12 from the floor and 2-of-3 from the line for 18 points, nine rebounds, six assists, two steals, and three turnovers. Antetokounmpo is now averaging 12.3 ppg, 5.9 rpg, and 2.0 apg, while shooting 50 percent from the field.
Description: Pacers power forward David West scored a team-high 19 points during Saturday's loss against the Nuggets.
Insight: West posted a double-double with 10 rebounds as well. He went 8-of-22 from the field and 2-of-5 from the line, so his percentages do not look great from Saturday. He is averaging 12.8 ppg and 6.8 rpg on the season.
Description: Hawks shooting guard Kyle Korver hit four 3-pointers during Saturday's victory against the Rockets.
Insight: He was 7-of-12 from the field, 4-of-4 from the line, and 4-of-8 from deep for a team-high 22 points. Korver also had three rebounds, two assists, one steal, and two turnovers. He needs to hit from beyond to be a productive fantasy option.
Description: Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony scored 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds on Saturday.
Insight: Unfortunately, it was enough as New York lost to Phoenix, 99-90. Anthony shot 9-of-19 from the field and 6-for-6 at the free-throw lin. Anthony also had three assists, three steals and a block.
Description: The Spurs will be resting all their stars on Saturday versus the Mavericks.
Insight: Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobil will sit to rest, Kawhi Leonard is out with a hand injury and Tony Parker will sit with his hamstring injury. Coming off back-to-back triple overtime games and Gregg Popovich being who he is, this can't be that much of a surprise.
Description: Pelicans small forward Tyreke Evans will try and play Saturday.
Insight: Evans missed Thursday's game against the Rockets, but Evans is going to try and play Saturday. Don't be surprised or upset if he ends up sitting Saturday though because the Pelicans play three games over the next four days. Owners would rather have Evans healthy for the long run.
Description: Clipper power forward Blake Griffin scored 32 points with 12 rebounds in the, 109-106, loss to the Nuggets on Friday.
Insight: Griffin only shot 9-of-20, which is slightly below his season average of 48.7 percent, but he made 14-of-18 free throws. Griffin is on fire as he has averaged 31.5 ppg and 14 rpg over the last two games.
Description: Spurs forward Tim Duncan recorded a double-double on Friday.
Insight: Duncan scored 32 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while Danny Green also recorded a double-double with 27 points and 10 rebounds, but it wasn't enough as the Spurs dropped their second straight triple overtime game. Those two losses were against the Grizzlies and Trail Blazers. Fantasy owners need to check daily whether or not Duncan is playing, but when on the court, he is a top-fantasy option averaging 15.8 ppg and 11.0 rpg.
Description: Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge had a monster game Friday night.
Insight: Aldridge scored 32 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in the, 129-119, triple overtime victory over the Spurs. Alridge was 13-for-27 from the field and made all five of his free throws. He also had five steals and two blocks. Aldridge is a top-option at the forward position.
Description: Bulls shooting guard Jimmy Butler had another big night during Friday's win against the Grizzlies.
Insight: He scored a career-hogh 35 points on Thursday, anf followed up with 31 more on Friday. He went 11-of-21 from the floor and 9-of-9 from the line. Butler also had 10 rebounds, one assist, and two steals.
Description: Thunder small forward Kevin Durant's ankle injury appears to be a minor one, according to coach Scott Brooks.
Insight: X-rays came back negative and it looks like the Thunder and fantasy owners dodged a bullet. Durant could still miss a game ot two, but this is relatively good news. In just 19 minutes before the injury, Durant posted 30 points against Golden State.
Description: Pelicans power forward Anthony Davis had another big fantasy night.
Insight: In a matchup between the top-two candidates for the first half fantasy MVP award, Davis shined with 30 points and 14 rebounds. He made 10 field goals on 17 shots and 10 free throws on 12 attempts. Davis also had five blocks, three assists and two steals, which was enough to easily outplay James Harden and lead New Orleans to victory.
Description: Knicks forward Amare Stoudemire scored six points in the fourth quarter to help the Knicks rally, but it wasn't enough as New York dropped another close one.
Insight: New York leads the league with the most five-point or less deficit losses. Stoudemire finished with 16 points, six rebounds and four blocks in 31 minutes. He is the best offensive player for the Knicks when Carmelo Anthony doesn't play.
Description: Bulls shooting guard Jimmy Butler scored 35 points, hitting four 3-pointers in the, 103-97, victory over the Knicks.
Insight: Butler shot 11-of-21 overall and made 9-of-10 foul shots. He also chipped in seven assists, five rebounds, four steals and a block. Butler has turned into a very solid fantasy option at guard.
Description: Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony, who scored a team-high 26 points in the,107-87, loss to the Mavericks on Tuesday, is expected to miss Thursday's game due to a sore left knee, according to Frank Isola of the New York Daily News. UPDATE: Anthony will not play. Make sure he is not in your lineup Thursday.
Insight: Anthony is averaging 23.4 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 3.3 apg which is significantly below last season's totals. The Knicks don't have many healthy bodies with Iman Shumpert, J.R. Smith and Amare Stoudemire also watching from the sidelines.
Description: Nets center Mason Plumlee started for Kevin Garnett and led the team in scoring Wednesday.
Insight: Plumlee was 9-of-13 with 23 points. He also had eight rebounds, two blocks and two assists, though, he didn't shoot well at the line (5-of-11). Garnett was only out to receive additional rest, but when that periodically happens this season, Plumlee is worth starting.
Description: Jazz small forward Gordon Hayward had his highest scoring output of the month on Wednesday.
Insight: Hayward had 29 points in 38 minutes against the Heat. He shot 9-of-13, going 4-for-5 from the 3-point line, and a perfect 7-for-7 at the foul line. Hayward also contributed seven assists, six rebounds and a block.
Description: Mavericks small forward Chandler Parsons scored a season-high 32 points, shooting 10-of-17 from the floor on Wednesday.
Insight: Parsons went 4-for-6 from the 3-point line and made 8-of-9 free throws as well. Parsons also chipped in seven rebounds, two assists and two steals. This month, Parsons is averaging 20.6 ppg, 5.0 rpg, and 2.9 apg.
Description: Cavaliers forward LeBron James led the team with 21 points in the, 127-98, loss to the Hawks Wednesday.
Insight: The up-and-down season continued for the Cavaliers on Wednesday. Since Cleveland won eight in a row, they have dropped three of the last four games. James shot 50 percent versus the Hawks and had just three rebounds, two assists and two steals to go with the 21 points.
Description: Pelicans power forward Anthony Davis returned to fine fashion on Tuesday night.
Insight: Davis was sidelined with a chest injury, but the injury did no affect him on Tuesday, as he went 12-of-15 from the field and 7-of-7 from the line. He finished with 31 points, nine rebounds, one assist, one steal, three blocks, and two turnovers. Owners can breathe easy.
Description: Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony scored a team-high 26 points in the, 107-87, loss to the Mavericks on Tuesday.
Insight: It was another lackluster performance from the Knicks, who have scored fewer than 90 points in regulation nine times this season. Anthony was 11-of-23, including 2-of-4 from the 3-point line with five rebounds, five assists, four steals and a block.
Description: Wizards guard Otto Porter made his first career start against the Timberwolves on Tuesday.
Insight: Porter scored 10 points with five rebounds in 23 minutes. That was the most minutes he has played in two weeks. With so many other stars in the lineup, it will be tough for Porter to carve out a nightly role, but fantasy owners should keep an eye on him as long as he remains a starter.
Description: Timberwolves forward Thaddeus Young led the team with 29 points, shooting a great 63.2 percent from the floor on Tuesday.
Insight: Young had a great all-around fantasy day except for his free-throw shooting. Young had four rebounds, two assists and two steals to go with his 29 points, but he shot 5-of-12 from the line. Even though free-throw percentage isn't very good this season (61.7 percent), he is rarely below 50 percent.
Description: Mavericks small forward Chandler Parsons (back) is questionable for Tuesday's game against New York.
Insight: He has been playing well of late, but missed Saturday's game and was still dealing with the stiff back Monday. Richard Jefferson played 35 minutes Saturday as his replacement and posted a surprising 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Description: Cavaliers power forward Kevin Love came up big for fantasy owners on Monday night.
Insight: He went 7-of-14 from the field, 4-of-5 from the line, and 4-of-9 from beyond the arc for 22 points. Love did not stop there, as he posted 18 rebounds, five assists, four steals, and one turnover. This may have been Love's best game as a Cavalier.
Description: Rockets forward Donatas Motiejunas scored a career-high 25 points against the Nuggets on Saturday.
Insight: This is a big deal considering Dwight Howard was back in the lineup and played 30 minutes. While Howard led the team in scoring with 26 points, Motiejunas had 25 points on 11-of-19 shooting with five rebounds. Motiejunas may remain fantasy relevant even with Howard back, but we will have to see what happens once Terrence Jones comes back.
Description: Pistons forward Greg Monroe came off the bench Saturday and led the team in scoring.
Insight: Kyle Singler replaced Greg Monroe in the starting lineup, but Monroe still played 32 minutes versus Singler's 26. Monroe made 8-of-13 shots, scoring 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Even if he stays a bench player, Monroe should be in fantasy lineups.
Description: Kings small forward Rudy Gay scored a team-high 20 points in the loss to the Pistons on Saturday.
Insight: Gay only went 6-of-22 from the field overall but was helped by a 4-for-7 night from the 3-point line. Gay also chipped in eight rebounds and eight assists so combine that with the 20 points and 3-pointers, fantasy owners will gladly take it.
Description: Pistons forward Josh Smith recorded a double-double on Saturday.
Insight: Smith had 21 points and 13 rebounds in the, 95-90 victory over the Kings. He made 9-of-16 shots and went 3-for-5 at the line. Smith also had five blocks, five assists and two steals although he did have seven turnovers.
Description: Nuggets forward Darrell Arthur scored a season-high 20 points coming off the bench against the Rockets on Saturday.
Insight: Arthur was 7-of-14 shooting as he led the Nuggets with points. Arthur hit on 4-of-9 3-point attempts and grabbed six rebounds. Great production for 24 minutes, but he will have to do it a couple more times to prove to be fantasy worth. He is averaging 8.9 ppg and 4.4 rpg in Decemeber.
Description: 76ers forward Robert Covington led the team with 24 points on Saturday.
Insight: Covington did not shoot that well, going 5-for-16 and only hitting on 3-of-11 3-pointers, but he was helped out by the fact he went to the line all night and made 11-of-12 foul shots. Covington also had nine rebounds, an assist and steal. With him in the starting lineup for Philadelphia, he has become a decent fantasy option.
Description: Magic small forward Tobias Harris led the Magic with 20 points as Orlando defeated the Hawks, 100-99, on Saturday.
Insight: Harris was 7-of-16 in 39 minutes. It was Nikola Vucevic's first game back froom his injury, but Harris did not see any reduction in minutes despite Vucevic playing 35 minutes. Harris also took more shots than Vucevic while also getting six rebounds and five assists. We will continue to see if Harris can mantain these numbers as Vucevic moves back into the lineup.
Description: Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge accumulated some great numbers on Saturday against the Pacers.
Insight: Aldridge took 23 shots, so with that number of opportunities, owners probably would want him to score more than 19 points. Still, owners will take the 19 points and 14 rebounds. Aldridge came into the game averaging 22.3 ppg and 9.9 rpg this season.
Description: Hornets small forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist came off the bench and led the Hornets with 15 points on Saturday.
Insight: It was a lackluster performance from Charlotte as only one player shot higher than 40 percent in the game. Brian Robert was 5-of-7 with 15 points. Kidd-Gilchrist and Lance Stephenson were both 5-of-13 from the field. Kidd-Gilchrist also had five rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Description: Mavericks forward Richard Jefferson got a rare start and played well in Saturday's loss to Golden State.
Insight: With Chandler Parsons out, Jefferson recorded 13 points, 13 rebounds, two 3-pointers, and two turnovers. Owners should not expect numbers like that again this season. Leave Jefferson on the waiver wire.
Description: Pacers forward Solomon Hill lost his starting job, but scored a team-high 16 points in Friday's loss to the Raptors.
Insight: He played 30 minutes, partly do to the injury to C.J Miles. Hill went 5-of-8 from the field and 5-of-6 from the line. He also had three rebounds, three assists, three blocks, and two turnovers.
Description: Sixers forward Robert Covington played well in his first start of the season.
Insight: He went 6-of-10 from the field, and every shot he attempted was from beyond the arc. Covington finished with 20 points, six rebounds, two assists, three steals, one block, and three turnovers. He should be picked up everywhere.
