Description: Braves center fielder Melvin Upton will likely begin the season on the disabled list after being diagnosed with sesamoiditis.
Insight: Sesamoiditis is a condition when the bone behind the foot becomes inflamed. Upton will not resume baseball activities until the beginning of April at the earliest, which is unforunate because he is need of a bounce-back year. Eric Young Jr., Eury Perez, and Zoilo Almonte are the candidates to fill in for Upton.
Description: Nationals center fielder Denard Span is cleared for full workouts according to CSN Washington.
Insight: Span had surgery in December to repair a sports hernia, but he is 100 percent recovered. He was a very good fantasy player last season, hitting .302/.355/.416 with 31 stolen bases and 94 runs. Span was particularly good in the second half, hitting .346/.403/.459 after the All-Star break.
Description: Angels center fielder Mike Trout told the Los Angeles Times that he wants to increase his stolen bases and cut down on his strikeouts in 2015.
Insight: This is music to fantasy owners' ears. Trout stole just 16 stolen bases last season after swiping 33 in 2013 and 49 in 2012. He also led the AL with 184 strikeouts last season. Fantasy owners would love to see another 30-steal season, but regardless, it's hard to argue Trout isn't the first overall pick off draft boards this spring.
Description: Giants center fielder Angel Pagan (back surgery last September) says he's without restrictions and feels good, according to beat writer Alex Pavlovic.
Insight: OK, everyone feels good the first day of spring training. Pagan hasn't played more than 96 games in each of the last two seasons. He may also lose his spot at the top of the lineup to Norichika Aoki, so drafting Pagan comes with multiple red flags.
Description: Tigers center fielder Rajai Davis says he's completely recovered from a groin injury suffered late last season that hurt his play in October, says Tigers beat writer Anthony Fenech.
Insight: Davis is primarily a one-trick pony for fantasy owners. He's a base stealer, so if his legs aren't right then he's of little value to fantasy owners. He stole 36 bases in 2014 and 45 in 2013. He can be useful as a fill-in, but a low OPS and no power hurts his value.
