Third Base Player Notes
For The Last 15 Days

Alex Rodriguez, 3B, NYY9/29/2014 9:40:00 PM
Description: Yankees manager Joe Girardi told ESPN New York on Monday that he expects Alex Rodriguez to be the team's third baseman next season.
Insight: Girardi went on to say A-Rod doesn't automatically have the job, but he should be able to be the everyday third baseman if healthy. Even though this news likely makes Yankee fans want to puke, the team could really use a power right-handed bat. That's if Rodriguez can be somewhat of his old self. Reality seems to have set in for Rodriguez, who must have figured out he stood almost no chance of winning this case in federal court. A-Rod will sit out the entire 2014 season as he serves a 162-game PED suspension. Rodriguez will not be reporting to spring training later this month.
Josh Donaldson, 3B, OAK9/29/2014 8:31:00 PM
Description: Athletics third baseman Josh Donaldson told Comcast SportsNet California that his left knee feels more stable than it did a few days ago.
Insight: Donaldson did not run very much on Monday, but he is expected to be in the lineup on Tuesday against the Royals in the AL Wild Card game. His knee has been an issue for the second half of the season, but Donaldson has still been able to hit .280 over that time. His power, however, seems to have been effected as he has just nine homers since the break.
Trevor Plouffe, 3B, MIN9/29/2014 5:33:00 PM
Description: Twins third baseman Trevor Plouffe underwent surgery to repair his fractured left forearm according to Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
Insight: Plouffe originally thought he wasn't going to need the surgery, but a second opinion convinced him to receive it. He should be ready for spring training.
Josh Donaldson, 3B, OAK9/28/2014 9:34:00 AM
Description: Athletics third baseman Josh Donaldson went 3-for-4 with a home run in a loss to the Rangers on Saturday.
Insight: It was unclear whether Donaldson would even start as the third baseman banged both his knees on Friday. Donaldson did not look to good running the bases Saturday, but his production at the plate was not effected. He hit a solo bomb in the first and added two singles. Donaldson is batting .257 with 29 home runs and 98 RBI in 157 games this season.
Todd Frazier, 3B, CIN9/27/2014 5:22:00 PM

Insight: He clubbed another homer for his 29th of the year, Frazier now has 79 RBI, to go along with a .274/.337/.461 line. Owners who gambled on him this year, have had it pay off tremendously.
Kyle Seager, 3B, SEA9/27/2014 10:48:00 AM
Description: Mariners third baseman Kyle Seager is just 3-for-31 (.097) against Angels left-hander C.J. Wilson.
Insight: Seager is hitting .269 with 25 homers and 95 RBI, but shouldn't be in your lineup Saturday.
Pablo Sandoval, 3B, SFG9/27/2014 10:24:00 AM
Description: Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval is 12-for-28 (.429) against Padres starter Eric Stultz.

Description: Phillies third baseman Cody Asche was 2-for-4 with a double that led to a three-run sixth inning as Philadelphia came back to defeat Atlanta, 5-4.
Insight: Asche's double scored a run and put Freddy Galvis on third base. Galvis and Asche both scored later in the inning. Asche is hitting .255 with 10 home runs and 46 RBI this season. Asche will compete with Maikel Franco for the starting third base job next year and may have to switch positions.
Trevor Plouffe, 3B, MIN9/25/2014 4:20:00 PM
Description: Twins third baseman Trevor Plouffe tweeted on Thursday that he will not need surgery to repair his fractured left forearm.
Insight: Plouffe broke his forearm on Wednesday when A.J. Pollock's leg hit his arm on a slide at third base. He will not need surgery but will be in a cast for six-to-eight weeks. We expect him to be fine for spring training next year.
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B, WAS9/25/2014 10:27:00 AM
Description: Nationals 3B/LF Ryan Zimmerman is starting in left field in the first half of Thursday's doubleheader.
Insight: Zimmerman said he felt some discomfort in his hamstring after playing in his first game in nearly two months on Sunday. That is not a major concern though, and Washington wants to see what Zimmerman can provide them before the playoffs begin. He is batting third on Thursday afternoon versus the Mets.
David Wright, 3B, NYM9/25/2014 9:41:00 AM
Description: An MRI revealed this week that Mets third baseman David Wright has ligament damage in his left shoulder according to ESPN New York.
Insight: The Mets officially shut down Wright for the season on Sept. 9 after the third baseman played through tremendous shoulder pain throughout the year. He may need surgery if a six-week strengthening program doesn't work. He will test his shoulder around Nov. 1 and if Wright does need surgury, he could miss Opening Day 2015. Wright batted just .269 with eight home runs and 63 RBI while playing hurt this season.
Chris Johnson, 3B, ATL9/24/2014 10:33:00 PM
Description: Braves third baseman Chris Johnson left Wednesday's game with a lower back strain, according to Mark Bowman.
Insight: Phil Gosselin replaced him the sixth. Consider Johnson day-to-day.
Trevor Plouffe, 3B, MIN9/24/2014 3:59:00 PM
Description: Minnesota third baseman Trevor Plouffe is done for the season after the diagnosis came back as a fractured left forearm.
Insight: Plouffe collided with A.J. Pollock. He'll finish the season batting .258 with 14 HR, 79 RBI and a .750 OPS.
Josh Donaldson, 3B, OAK9/24/2014 11:47:00 AM
Description: Athletics third baseman Josh Donaldson is a career 1-for-11 (.091) with four strikeouts against Angels starter Hector Santiago.
Insight: Donaldson's big home run total of the first half (20) has dissipated (8), but he's hitting for a higher average (.276) and a better OPS (.840) in the 61 games since the break. This is a poor matchup, however.
Todd Frazier, 3B, CIN9/23/2014 9:54:00 PM
Description: Reds 3B/1B Todd Frazier blasted his 28th homer of the year in Tuesday's win against the Brewers.
Insight: He was 1-for-11 coming into the game against Mike Fiers, but took him deep in the first inning. Frazier added a double off Fiers later, and now is hitting .277 with 77 RBI. It has been a coming out party for Frazier in 2014.

Todd Frazier, 3B, CINCold9/23/2014 1:36:00 PM
Description: Reds 3B/1B Todd Frazier is 1-for-11 with four strikeouts in his career against Milwaukee right-hander Mike Fiers.
Insight: Although he's put together the best season of his career, he's fadied a bit since the All-Star break. He hit 18 homers and batted .290 pre-Summer Cklassic and .252 with eight homers after it. Avoid this matchup.

Description: Rays third baseman Evan Longoria is a career .189 hitter against Boston right-hander Clay Buchholz with 13 strikeouts in 37 at-bats.

Description: Reds 3B/1B Todd Frazier is 3-for-23 with 12 strikeouts in his career against Cardinals pitcher Lance Lynn.

Description: Brewers third baseman Aramis Ramirez and second basemen Scotter Gennett are each 6-for-13 (.462) against Cardinals starter Shelby Miller.
Insight: Ramirez has the superior power numbers, hitting two home runs and five RBI off Miller. Either one is a worthy start on Thursday as the Brewers take the field for their most important game of the season to date.
Aramis Ramirez, 3B, MIL9/17/2014 11:31:00 AM
Description: Brewers third baseman Aramis Ramirez has ridiculous numbers versus Cardinals' ace Adam Wainwright.
Insight: He is 23-for-56 lifetime against Wainwright, with 11 extra-base hits. Not many players hit Wainwright this well, especially righties. Make sure Ramirez is in your lineup for tonight's big game against St. Louis.

Steve Tolleson, 3B, TOR9/15/2014 4:22:00 PM
Description: Blue Jays infielder Steve Tolleson is starting at third base Monday night.
Insight: Tolleson has been pretty irrelavent in 2014 (.232 BA, 3 HR, 14 RBI), but has been given the nod tonight at third base. With only four at-bats over the past 14 days, Tolleson is not a recommended daily fantasy option.
Mike Moustakas, 3B, KAN9/15/2014 3:48:00 PM
Description: Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas is not in Monday's starting lineup.
Insight: Moustakas has a bad history versus John Danks (1-for-13), so this isn't a surprise. Jayson Nix will get the start at the hot corner. Nix and his .130 batting average has no fantasy value.
