Ryan Howard, 1B5/5/2015 10:45:00 AM
Description: Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard is 4-for-7 with three home runs against Braves right-hander Shelby Miller.

Description: Philadelphia outfielder Darin Ruf had two hits including a home run in the, 9-3, loss to the Cardinals on Thursday.
Insight: Ruf hit the solo homer in the third inning. Ruf, however, isn't fantasy relevant as he is hitting .179 with two home runs and four RBI.

Description: Phillies third baseman Cody Asche hit his second home run of the season during Wednesday's loss to the Marlins and might be able to repeat that feat on Thursday afternoon.
Insight: Asche has been a solid option this season and now is hitting .340 with overall, but the key to him going deep again is the wind blowing out to right field at about 20 mph today. All he has to do is hit it in the air solidly and it should go out of hitter-friendly Citizen's Bank Park.

Description: Phillies third baseman Cody Asche was 3-for-3 with a walk on Wednesday against the Mets.
Insight: Unfortunately, Asche didn't score or drive any runs in despite reaching base four times. He does, however, have hits in four straight games. Description: Phillies second baseman Chase Utley broke out of his slump on Tuesday night.

Description: Philadelphia outfielder Darin Ruf is a career 6-for-16 (.375) with a pair of home runs and six RBi against Nationals starter Gio Gonzalez.
Insight: Ruf doesn't have a base hit in two games, so don't pay a lot for this pick. He'll likely play first base for Ryan Howard who has never gotten a hit off Gonzalez.

Description: Phillies second baseman Chase Utley had an RBI for the second straight game.
Insight: He went 1-for-4 with an RBI single, but is hitting just .091 through three games. Expect Utley to get that average up quickly.

Description: Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon earned his first save of the 2015 season.
Insight: After Ken Giles got Philadelphia into some trouble in he eighth inning, Papelbon came in for a four-out save. Even if the Phillies are lousy as expected, Papelbon should reach at least 30 saves.

Kyle Kendrick, SP4/6/2015 5:43:00 PM
Description: Phillies starter Kyle Kendrick pitched seven shutout innings in the, 10-0, victory over the Brewers on Monday.
Insight: What a way to start the season for the former Phillies pitcher. He allowed seven hits in seven innings, but no walks and struck out six. Fantasy owners, however, should see how he pitches at Mile High before getting excited about Kendrick.

Domonic Brown, LF3/21/2015 10:32:00 AM
Description: Phillies left fielder Domonic Brown has been diagnosed with moderate tendinitis of his left Achilles, according to beat writer Todd Zolecki of mlb.com.
Insight: Brown could miss up to a week, but with no structural damage, at the worst, he should be ready a little after Opening Day. After a 27 HR 2013, Brown disappointed fantasy owners last season hitting just .235 with 10 homers and 63 RBI. Expectations are much lower this season and he could be worth a late-round flier.
Cliff Lee, SP3/16/2015 4:54:00 PM
Description: The Phillies have placed starter Cliff Lee on the 60-day disabled list with a left forearm strain.
Insight: Lee will attempt to rehab the injury yet again. He is postponing surgery, as his season would be over if he chooses that option. We find it very unlikely Lee will pitch in 2015, but no matter what, owners can leave him off their draft boards.
Cliff Lee, SP3/16/2015 4:38:00 PM
Description: Things continue not to look good for Phillies starter Cliff Lee (elbow).
Insight: He did not throw on Sunday or Monday, and felt pain during the few previous sessions. The chances are high that Lee is done for the season.
Cliff Lee, SP3/13/2015 4:38:00 PM
Description: Phillies starter Cliff Lee played catch again on Friday, but still felt discomfort in his elbow.
Insight: Lee and the Phillies are doing everything they can for him not to undergo season-ending, and possible career-ending surgery. However, with the pain not subsiding, Lee should definitely be left alone in regards to fantasy, and will likely be out for the season.
Ryan Howard, 1B3/13/2015 4:36:00 PM
Description: Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard hit his first homer of the spring.
Insight: Howard is just 5-for-25 at the plate this spring, but with him slimming down, there is a small chance at a rebirth. However, we would not invest anything more than late round pick in upcoming drafts.
Chase Utley, 2B3/12/2015 4:28:00 PM
Description: Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg said second baseman Chase Utley (ankle) could debut on Friday.
Insight: Utley has been dealing with a mild right ankle sprain, and the Phillies are being very cautious. If he does make his spring debut, Utley will likely serve as the team's designated hitter.
Cole Hamels, SP3/11/2015 5:25:00 PM
Description: Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels allowed two runs over three innings Wednesday versus Pittsburgh.
Insight: He was one out away from going three scoreless, but Jordy Mercer took him deep for a two-run shot in the third. Hamels will likely open the season up in Philadelphia, but will be a trade target up until the deadline, or until he is dealt.
Cliff Lee, SP3/11/2015 1:13:00 PM
Description: Phillies starter Cliff Lee told the Philadelphia Daily News that his elbow still hurt after throwing on Wednesday.
Insight: Dr. James Andrews says Lee has a tear in his flexor tendon in the left elbow. Lee is hoping the pain subsides, so he can pitch through the injury. It's possible that Lee could need surgery, and that would put him out for six-to-eight months.
Ryan Howard, 1B3/9/2015 6:40:00 PM
Description: The Baltimore Orioles are "keeping an eye" on Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard this spring according to CSNPhilly.com.
Insight: The Phillies have been pretty much trying to trade Howard since signing him to his massive deal a few seasons ago. He is set to make $50 million over the next two seasons with a club option and $10 million buyout for 2017. If Howard is moved the Baltimore, Philadelphia will likely have to pay most of Howard's salary.
Chase Utley, 2B3/8/2015 10:25:00 PM
Description: Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg is still unsure when second baseman Chase Utley will make his Spring Training debut.
Insight: Utley has an ankle injury, which is considered minor, but he has yet to appear in a game this spring. Sandberg said Utley could play in a game at the end of this coming week.
Cliff Lee, SP3/8/2015 1:38:00 PM
Description: Phillies starter Cliff Lee had an MRI on his left elbow.
Insight: It is the same elbow that forced him to miss much of last season. The results showed mild inflammation, which is not the end of the world, but the fact he had issues last season, makes him a very dicey play for 2015.
Cliff Lee, SP3/5/2015 6:02:00 PM
Description: Phillies starter Cliff Lee pitched two scoreless innings, allowing just two singles, versus the Astros on Thursday.
Insight: Not a bad spring debut. Lee has looked good in spring trainings, so his stock is trending upward.
Ryan Howard, 1B3/3/2015 4:34:00 PM
Description: Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard said that he lost 15-to-20 pounds, and it showed during the Grapefruit League Opener.
Insight: Howard looked noticeably slimmer, and utilized a completely new batting stance. He went 2-for-2 with one RBI. It is way too soon to get excited, but Howard has come into camp looking to prove he still has it.
Chase Utley, 2B3/2/2015 12:46:00 PM
Description: Phillies second baseman Chase Utley will not play in any spring training games this week due to his ankle issue, according to Ryan Lawrence of the Philadelphia Daily News.
Insight: Utley sprained his ankle in January and will take his time recovering. It shouldn't prevent him from being ready for Opening Day.
Cole Hamels, SP2/16/2015 1:38:00 PM
Description: Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels has been on the trading block for a while now, but it appears that four teams have made offers, according to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe.
Insight: None have been accepted at this point, which means the bidding war starts now. Hamels was 9-9 last season, starting 30 games with a 2.46 ERA, 1.148 WHIP and 196 Ks. He's likely to end up on a playoff contender and his fantasy value should skyrocket with a better chance to win games and playing in a more pitcher-friendly ballpark.
Chad Billingsley, SP1/30/2015 2:45:00 PM
Description: Right-hander Chad Billingsley has signed a one-year deal with Philadelphia.
Insight: Billingsley (torn flexor tendon) has made just two starts in two years. Given the team he'll be playing with, it's hard to expect him to amass a high win total and his WHIP and ERA don't figure to be elite in the Phillies' hitter-friendly ballpark. It would probably be best to stay away.
Jimmy Rollins, SS12/10/2014 5:20:00 PM
Description: Shortstop Jimmy Rollins has reportedly been traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com.
Insight: Buster Olney of ESPN confirmed the move, however it is not known what the Phillies are receiving in return. Physicals will also need to be passed. Stay tuned.
A.J. Burnett, SP11/3/2014 10:09:00 PM
Description: Right-hander A.J. Burnett declined his $12.75 million player option with the Phillies, for 2015.
Insight: He will now become a free agent, and his agent said Burnett wants to continue pitching, preferably for a contender, during the upcoming season.
A.J. Burnett, SP11/1/2014 10:58:00 AM
Description: The Phillies and right-hander A.J. Burnett both declined their $15 million mutual options for 2015.
Insight: Burnett still has a player option for $12.75 million for next season, and will have a few more days to make that decision. If he does not retire, he probably would not fetch more than that on the open market.
Grady Sizemore, OF10/23/2014 5:41:00 PM
Description: Outfielder Grady Sizemore signed a one-year, $2 million contract to stay with the Phillies.
Insight: The deal also has performance bonuses. The 32-year-old batted .253 with three home runs and 12 RBI in 176 plate appearances with the Phillies last year and will likely remain a part-time player.
A.J. Burnett, SP10/9/2014 4:49:00 PM
Description: Phillies right-hander A.J. Burnett is expected to pitch in 2015, according to Jon Heyman.
Insight: He has a $12.75 million player option with the Phillies, and will have five days after the World Series is completed, to decide whether or not to exercise it. Burnett led all of baseball with 18 loses, and combined with a 4.59 ERA and 1.41 WHIP, he will likely not fetch as much money on the open market.
Cole Hamels, SP9/28/2014 4:08:00 PM
Description: Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels goes eight innings, but loses.
Insight: Stop us if you heard this before. Hamels pitches great, but does not get the run support. Today, he allowed just two runs on three hits, while striking out seven. Hamels finishes 2014 at 9-9 and a 2.46 ERA.
A.J. Burnett, SP9/27/2014 10:21:00 PM
Description: Phillies right-hander A.J. Burnett finishes off season to forget.

Ryan Howard, 1B9/27/2014 10:18:00 PM
Description: Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard has big night at plate Saturday versus Atlanta.
Insight: He was 3-for-4 with a homer and two RBI. Howard would have had his third RBI, but Chase Utley was thrown out at the plate in the fourth inning. Howard is a shell of his former self as he is hitting .223/.309/.448, but still provides power with 23 homeruns, and 95 RBI. His RBI total is actually fourth in the National League.
Marlon Byrd, RFHot9/27/2014 10:33:00 AM
Description: Phillies right fielder Marlon Byrd is a career .435 hitter (10-for-23) with three homers against Braves right-hander Aaron Harang.
Insight: Byrd is on a modest six-game winning streak. He has a career-high 25 homers, and still has an outside chance to eclipse his career-mark of 89 RBI, set with Texas in 2009.
Cody Asche, 3B9/26/2014 10:06:00 PM
Description: Phillies third baseman Cody Asche was 2-for-4 with a double that led to a three-run sixth inning as Philadelphia came back to defeat Atlanta, 5-4.
Insight: Asche's double scored a run and put Freddy Galvis on third base. Galvis and Asche both scored later in the inning. Asche is hitting .255 with 10 home runs and 46 RBI this season. Asche will compete with Maikel Franco for the starting third base job next year and may have to switch positions.
Jonathan Papelbon, RP9/26/2014 10:00:00 PM
Description: Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon earned his 39th save of the season on Friday.
Insight: Papelbon returned on Wednesday from his suspension to record a save, and he did it again on Friday. Papelbon has converted 39 of his 43 save opportunities this season and has a 2.04 ERA.
Ben Revere, CF9/25/2014 10:09:00 AM
Description: Phillies center fielder Ben Revere is 6-for-12 against Marlins pitcher Tom Koehler in his lifetime.
Insight: Revere has fallen to fifth in the National League batting title race, so he will have to go on a tear to win the title, but he is still having a breakout season. Revere is hitting .307 with 179 hits, 13 doubles, seven triples, two home runs, 69 runs, and 47 steals in 584 at-bats.
Marlon Byrd, RF9/24/2014 10:15:00 PM
Description: Phillies right fielder Marlon Byrd knocks in 84th RBI of the year.
Insight: In a year that many Phillies have disappointed, Byrd has been a pleasant surprise. He has a career-high 25 homers, and will have an outside chance to eclipse his career-mark of 89 RBI, he had with Texas in 2009.
Kyle Kendrick, SP9/24/2014 10:07:00 PM

Cole Hamels, SP9/23/2014 9:31:00 PM
Description: Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels took a tough-luck loss Tuesday versus the Marlins.
Insight: Same old story for Hamels. He pitched fabulously (7 innings, 2 runs, 4 strikeouts), but was given no run support. He heads into his last start of 2014 with a record 9-8 and a 2.47 ERA.
Jonathan Papelbon, RP9/23/2014 12:18:00 PM
Description: Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon has served his seven games suspension and should be available for Tuesday's game against Miami.
Insight: He has 37 saves and posts a 2.10 ERA so should be back in all fantasy lineups.
Jimmy Rollins, SS9/21/2014 9:45:00 AM
Description: Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins has been ruled out on Sunday due to a hamstring injury according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Insight: Rollins has been hoping to play in his hometown of Oakland this weekend, but he tested his left hamstring on Saturday and is not yet feeling well enough to return to action. It is unclear if Rollins will return at all this season, so do not count on him the last week.
Ken Giles, RP9/20/2014 8:42:00 PM
Description: Phillies reliever Ken Giles earned his first career save against Oakland on Saturday.
Insight: With Jonathan Papelbon serving a seven-game suspension, Giles was in line for the save. He went three up and three down, with one strikeout. The flame-thrower is the future at the closer position for Philadelphia.

Description: Phillies right fielder Marlon Byrd is a career .091 hitter (1-for-11) against Oakland starter Jon Lester.
Insight: He is hitting .263 with 25 home runs and 79 RBI, but has just three home runs since Aug. 9. He is one of the few Phillies playing up to expectations this year, but this in an unfavorable matchup.
Jonathan Papelbon, RP9/15/2014 10:02:00 PM
Description: Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon has been suspended for seven games by major league baseball following his actions in Sunday's game.
Insight: Papelbon is not expected to appeal, so his suspension begins today. He has 37 saves and posts a 2.10 ERA.
John Mayberry Jr., OF9/15/2014 4:16:00 PM
Description: Blue Jays' outfielder John Mayberry Jr. gets the start in right field tonight against the Orioles.
Insight: Mayberry only has four AB since being acquired by Toronto, from the Phillies, but has three hits (2 doubles) to show for. He is in the lineup as a result of his numbers against lefties (.276 BA, 5 HR, 14 RBI), and has a chance to produce against Orioles' pitcher Wei-Yin Chen. Consider Mayberry a cheap, interesting daily fantasy play.
Jonathan Papelbon, RP9/14/2014 6:32:00 PM
Description: Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon blew up in the ninth inning against the Marlins on Sunday, allowing four runs and taking the loss.
Insight: Papelbon has been great this year, so this is probably his worst appearance this year. Papelbon retired just three of the nine batters he faced. This is just Papelbon's fourth blown save this year. He is fifth in the NL with 37 saves and posts a 2.10 ERA.
Kyle Kendrick, SP9/14/2014 9:05:00 AM
Description: Phillies starter Kyle Kendrick allowed one run over six and 1/3 innings to defeat the Marlins on Saturday, 2-1.

Marlon Byrd, RF9/12/2014 12:28:00 PM
Description: Phillies right fielder Marlon Byrd is a career .538 hitter (7-for-13) against Miami starter Henderson Alvarez.
Insight: He is hitting .265 with 25 home runs and 78 RBI this season and is one of the few Phillies playing up to expectations this year. He's worth a shot even though only one of the seven hits was for extra bases.
Chase Utley, 2B9/11/2014 3:32:00 PM
Description: Phillies second baseman Chase Utley is not in the lineup on Thursday against the Pirates.

Marlon Byrd, RF9/10/2014 2:51:00 PM
Description: Phillies right fielder Marlon Byrd is not in Wednesday's starting lineup.
Insight: Merely a regular off day for the Phillies right fielder. He is hitting .265 with 25 home runs and 78 RBI this season. Grady Sizemore will make the start in right, but with his .248 batting average and .691 OPS doesn't have much fantasy value.
Jonathan Papelbon, RP9/9/2014 10:16:00 PM
Description: Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon recorded his 36th save of the season, pitching a scoreless ninth inning against the Pirates.
Insight: Papelbon allowed an infield single to Gregory Polanco to start the ninth. Polanco reached second on a sacrifice bunt, but Papelbon induced a ground out from pinch hitter Andrew Lambo and struck out Josh Harrison to end the game. The Phillies closer has converted 36 out of his 39 save opportunties, has a 1.61 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 58 strikeouts in 61 1/3 innings this year. With all the trade rumors and talk of the closer's big contract, Papelbon's success this season has sort of fallen by the wayside. He is having his best season as a Phillie and maybe his best since 2008. Papelbon has blown just three saves out of 38 chances and has a 1.64 ERA.

Chase Utley, 2B9/7/2014 11:12:00 AM
Description: Phillies second baseman Chase Utley hits just .176 (3-for-17) against Nationals starter Gio Gonzalez in his career.

Description: Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon recorded his 35th save of the season to shut the door on the Nationals Saturday.
Insight: With all the trade rumors and talk of the closer's big contract, Papelbon's success this season has sort of fallen by the wayside. He is having his best season as a Phillie and maybe his best since 2008. Papelbon has blown just three saves out of 38 chances and has a 1.64 ERA.
A.J. Burnett, SP9/6/2014 7:22:00 PM
Description: Phillies right-hander A.J. Burnett pitched seven innings and allowed one run on six hits on route to beating the Nationals, 3-1.
Insight: The victory was Burnett's eighth of the season, but the right-hander has had a very disappointing season overall. He is 8-15 with a 4.29 ERA, 169 strikeouts in 191 innings this year. He has pitched better recently, going 2-1 with a 3.15 ERA in his last three starts.
Chase Utley, 2B9/5/2014 11:11:00 AM
Description: Phillies second baseman Chase Utley should be avoided in Friday's matchup against Nationals right-hander Stephen Strasburg.
Insight: Utley is just 3-for-22 (.136) over their career battles. He just a shell of the former Chase Utley who was a top-two fantasy seecond baseman, batting .276 with 11 HR and 71 RBI.
Ben Revere, CFHot9/3/2014 3:46:00 PM
Description: Phillies center fielder Ben Revere added three more hits to his total Wednesday afternoon and raised his batting average to .314 .
Insight: The .314 average makes him the NL leader grabbing the top spot from Josh Harrison (.313) . Revere has stolen 42 bases, but despite the high batting average is a drain on OPS due to just 18 extra-base hits.
Maikel Franco, 3B9/3/2014 10:50:00 AM
Description: Phillies 3B prospect Maikel Franco made his major league debut Tuesday night, but will get a chance to sit back Wednesday as he's not in the starting lineup.
Insight: Franco went 0-for-3 with a sacrifice RBI Tuesday night. He started slowly with Triple-A Lehigh Valley, but ended up hitting 16 homers with 78 RBI before his call up. Franco and Cody Asche will likely split the at-bats at 3B the rest of the way.
Jimmy Rollins, SS9/3/2014 9:40:00 AM
Description: Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins is 1-for-11 (.091) against Braves starter Ervin Santana.
Insight: Rollins is hot having gone 8-for-19 (.421) in the last four games. Rollins is hitting .247 with 17 home runs, 55 RBI, 75 runs and 28 steals this year and is a viable fantasy option despite the low batting average.
Kyle Kendrick, SPHot9/2/2014 11:17:00 PM
Description: Phillies starter Kyle Kendrick tossed seven shutout innings in a victory over the Braves on Tuesday.
Insight: Kendrick has won his last three starts with his best coming on Tuesday. On the season, Kendrick is 8-11 with a 4.77 ERA and 103 strikeouts iin 173 and 2/3 innings.

Ryan Howard, 1B9/2/2014 10:07:00 AM
Description: Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard is a lifetime .400 hitter with three home runs, eight RBI and a 1.400 OPS versus Braves starter Mike Minor.

Ben Revere, CFHot9/1/2014 5:19:00 PM
Description: The five RBI Phillies center fielder Ben Revere had Monday represent 25 percent of his season total.
Insight: Revere had 15 RBI all season entering the game. He's batted .310 with 18 extra-base hits, 60 runs and 40 steals this year and he's been a .353 hitter since June 26.
Cole Hamels, SP9/1/2014 5:11:00 PM
Description: Phillies pitchers Cole Hamels, Jake Diekman, Ken Giles and Jonathan Papelbon combined to throw a no-hitter against the Atlanta Braves Monday afternoon.
Insight: Hamels was removed after throwing 108 pitches over six innings. He struck out seven and walked five before Philadelphia's bullpen combined to strike out five over three perfect innings. After missing the first three weeks with a shoulder injury and recording a 7.02 ERA in his first three starts, Hamels has posted a 2.00 ERA, a 1.07 WHIP and a 151/45 K/BB over his last 152 2/3 innings while allowing three runs or less in 21 of his 22 starts during that span.
John Mayberry, LF8/31/2014 10:00:00 PM
Description: The Blue Jays acquired outfielder John Mayberry from the Phillies for infielder Gustavo Pierre.

Description: Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard went 2-for-5 with a home run, double, two RBI and a run in the Phillies' loss to the Mets on Sunday.
Insight: Howard has obviously had another extremely disappointing season, hitting .227 and 20 home runs. His OPS is a meager .695. But occasionally, owners will get this kind of game from the first baseman.

Description: Phillies left fielder Domonic Brown recorded four hits, including a double and home run, and RBI in the 6-5 loss to the Mets on Sunday.
Insight: Brown has been very disappointing this year, hitting just .235 with eight home runs and 58 RBI. He ranks second to last out of 20 eligible left fielders with a .636 OPS. If he is still in your lineup, it was nice to see him have a big game.
Ryan Howard, 1B8/31/2014 9:20:00 AM
Description: Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard is a career .391 hitter (9-for-23) with six home runs and 14 RBI versus Mets starter Dillon Gee.
Insight: Howard isn't the same player he once was, but he still has 19 home runs this season with 84 RBI and a historically favorable matchup. He's worth a flier.
Chase Utley, 2B8/29/2014 10:19:00 PM
Description: Phillies second baseman Chase Utley had two singles in a losing effort on Friday against the Mets.
Insight: Utley went 2-for-4 for the second straight night. He has, however, struggled overall in August, hitting .244 with just two home runs and 13 RBI in the month.
Jimmy Rollins, SS8/27/2014 10:55:00 PM

Chase Utley, 2B8/26/2014 4:15:00 PM

Jimmy Rollins, SS8/18/2014 4:08:00 PM
Description: Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins is not in Monday's starting lineup.
Insight: Rollins was just 1-for-11 over the weekend. He remains a decentlow-end fantasy shortstop despite batting .236, because he has power (15 HR), can knock in runs (50 RBI), score runs (65) and steal bases (24).
Ryan Howard, 1B8/16/2014 7:49:00 PM
Description: Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard entered Saturday's game 22-for-67 with three doubles, seven homers, 17 RBI and 12 walks against Giants starter Tim Hudson, and he went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI.
Insight: Howard didn't disappoint fantasy owners who started him against Hudson. The first baseman is hitting .221 with 18 homers, 77 RBI, 52 runs and a .676 OPS this season, so the only time you can use him is when he has an extremely favorable matchup like the one he had Saturday.

Cole Hamels, SPHot8/15/2014 2:17:00 PM
Description: His won-loss record doesn't show it, but no pitcher has been better than Phillies starter Cole Hamels over his past five starts.
Insight: Hamels has yielded a total of three earned runs in five games (37 IP) for an ERA of 0.729. Felix Hernandez has fielded five earned runs over his last 36 IP. Hamels is 3-1 with a no-decision over that span.

Description: Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins is a .143 hitter (2-for-14) versus Giants left-hander Madison Bumgarner.

Chase Utley, 2B8/11/2014 10:35:00 AM
Description: Phillies second baseman Chase Utley is just 3-for-28 (.107) versus Mets starter Jonathan Niese.

Insight: Howard went 0-for-3 in the first game of the series, but was 5-for-14 with a pair of homers and eight RBI in the just completed three-game set with Houston. He's worthy a flier in this favorable matchup.

Description: Phillies right fielder Marlon Byrd went 1-for-4 with a solo homer Friday at Washington.
Insight: Byrd (.271, 21 HR, 63 RBI) was on the trade block before Thursday's deadline, but Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. failed to get a deal done. It would have been good for Byrd's fantasy value if he landed in a better lineup. The veteran has a pitiful 130/26 K/BB in 455 plate appearances (28.6 K%, 5.7 BB%), so fantasy owners should prepare for an extended slump at some point during the final two months.

Insight: Lee threw a pitch and immediately reacted as if he knew something was wrong. He waved for the trainer and gestured toward his elbow, according to Jim Salisbury of csnphilly.com. Lee missed two months with a strained elbow before returning on July 21 and he likely aggravated the injury. The slim chance the Phillies had of trading Lee before the Aug. 31 waiver trade deadline probably just went out the window.

Description: Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins had a pinch-hit solo home run Wednesday at New York.
Insight: Rollins has hit seven homers, driven in 17 runs and scored 19 in July despite batting a paltry .216. Rollins' 15 home runs rank third among shortstops in 2014.

Marlon Byrd, RFHot7/29/2014 4:16:00 PM
Description: Phillies right fielder Marlon Byrd is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game with the Mets.
Insight: Considering he's one of the few Phillies actually hitting the ball we're surprised, but it appears to be a routine day of rest. Byrd is batting .273 with 20 HR and 60 RBI.

Description: Mark Saxon of ESPN Los Angeles reports that the Dodgers are expected to pursue Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon.
Insight: Papelbon has quietly had a terrific season, saving 22 games and recording a 1.21 ERA. a 0.86 WHIP and 33 Ks in 37 1/3 innings. If Los Angeles acquires Papelbon, it could move Kenley Jansen (27 saves, 3.49 ERA, 1.27 WHIP) to the eighth inning. Brian Wilson and Chris Perez have faltered as set-up men this season and Papelbon has more closing experience than Jansen. The Dodgers have also used lesser pitchers like Brandon League and Javy Guerra over Jansen in the closer role in the past even after Jansen had proven his dominance.
Cliff Lee, SP7/13/2014 4:28:00 PM
Description: Phillies starter Cliff Lee (elbow strain) is expected to start on July 21 against the Giants, according to Todd Zolecki of mlb.com.

Insight: Revere (.290, 1 HR, 11 RBI, 40 runs) has 26 steals to place him among the leaders. No injury that we know of, just a routine day off.
Ryan Howard, 1BCold7/10/2014 9:34:00 AM
Description: Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard is hitless in 10 tries against Milwaukee starter Matt Garza.
Insight: The best we can say about this matchup is that he's walked twice. Howard started the season decently, but his July has been a disaster, going 3-for-30 with no extra base hits and a .350 OPS. Keep looking.
Jimmy Rollins, SSCold7/9/2014 10:31:00 PM
Description: Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins went 1-for-4 with a homer and two RBI Wednesday against the Brewers.
Insight: Rollins was in a 7-for-41 (.171) slump and 7-for-39 (.179) in his career against Brewers starter Kyle Lohse, so he wasn't likely used in many fantasy leagues on Wednesday.
Chase Utley, 2B 7/9/2014 10:30:00 PM
Description: Phillies second baseman Chase Utley entered Wednesday's game with a 4-for-27 career history against Brewers starter Kyle Lohse, but he homered off the right-hander.

Jimmy Rollins, SSCold7/9/2014 1:22:00 PM
Description: Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins is 0-for-15 in his last five games and he won't get any relief Wednesday against Brewers starter Kyle Lohse.
Insight: Rollins is 7-for-39 (.179) in his career against the Milwaukee veteran right-hander. He's also in a 7-for-41 (.171) slump, so avoid him Wednesday.

Carlos Ruiz, C7/7/2014 9:34:00 PM
Description: According to beat writer Matt Gelb, Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz (concussion) will be out until after the All-Star break.
Insight: Ruiz (.257, 2 HR, 14 RBI) suffered a concussion on June 26 when he was hit in the head by a pitch. The veteran backstop missed 20 games in 2010 due to a concussion so the team will have to be extra cautious.
Jimmy Rollins, SS7/7/2014 4:07:00 PM
Description: Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins is not in Monday's starting lineup against Marco Estrada and the Milwaukee Brewers.
Insight: We don't think Rollins (.244, 8 HR, 32 RBI, 16 SB) is hurt, just a day of rest. Of course, with the trade deadline just around the corner, he might be out of the lineup because he's being dealt.
Marlon Byrd, RF7/6/2014 4:40:00 PM
Description: Phillies right fielder Marlon Byrd went 2-for-4 with home run and two RBI Sunday against the Pirates.
Insight: With Chase Utley in a slump, Byrd is the only Phillies hitter doing anything (.266, 18 HR, 52 RBI). He might bring value in a traded deadline deal.

Description: Phillies second baseman Chase Utley is not in Sunday's starting lineup.
Insight: Utley opened the season strong, but May and June saw his numbers shrink and July has started very slowly. He's still hitting .287 with 24 doubles, three triples, six homers, 40 RBI, 46 runs and an .778 OPS, but has hit just .190 over the past week.
Jimmy Rollins, SS7/5/2014 10:48:00 AM
Description: Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins is just 1-for-12 (.083) versus Pirated right-hander Edinson Volquez.
Insight: Rollins (.247, 8 HR, 32 RBI, 16 SB) might get the day off to rest. He's not the guy he was from 2004-2007, but he's still got game.
Domonic Brown, LF7/4/2014 10:03:00 PM
Description: The Phillies have activated Domonic Brown from the paternity leave list.

Cliff Lee, SP7/1/2014 5:32:00 PM

Marlon Byrd, RF6/29/2014 4:59:00 PM
Description: Phillies right fielder Marlon Byrd went 2-for-4 with two solo homers Sunday against the Braves.

Chase Utley, 2B6/29/2014 10:49:00 AM
Description: Phillies second baseman Chase Utley is 12-for-26 (.462) against Braves starter Aaron Harang.
Insight: Utley opened the season strong, but May and June have seen his numbers shrink. He's still hitting .295 with 24 doubles, three triples, six homers, 37 RBI, 45 runs and an .809 OPS this season. A favorable matchup on Sunday is worth a start.
Ryan Howard, 1B6/29/2014 10:46:00 AM
Description: Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard is a career .375 hitter with three homers and eight RBI against Braves starter Aaron Harang.
Insight: Howard is leading the NL with 100 strikeouts, but he does have 14 homers and 51 RBI this season. Combined with Harang's faltering numbers and Howard is a viable fantasy option.
Jimmy Rollins, SS6/28/2014 11:13:00 AM
Description: Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against Ervin Santana and the Braves.
Insight: Rollins (.247, 8 HR, 30 RBI, 13 SB) is just 1-for-9 versus Santana, so this is a good opportunity to give the "old guy" some rest.
Marlon Byrd, RF6/28/2014 10:18:00 AM
Description: Philadelphia right fielder Marlon Byrd is just 6-for-33 (.182) with 10 strikeouts against Braves right-hander Ervin Santana.

Domonic Brown, LF6/26/2014 2:55:00 PM
Description: Philadelphia left fielder Domonic Brown (.217, 5 HR, 37 RBI) is not in Thursday's starting lineup.
Insight: An All-Star last season, Brown has done almost nothing in 2014 with an OPS that hasn't surpassed .643 in any month. John Mayberry Jr. will get the start in left field and also has a low batting average (.229), but does have a respectable .798 OPS.
Marlon Byrd, RF6/25/2014 10:06:00 PM
Description: Philadelphia right fielder Marlon Byrd contributed three hits Wednesday in a loss to Miami.
Insight: Wednesday was Byrd's third three-hit game of the season. The 36-year-old is on pace for 27 HR and 95 RBI, which would both be career highs.

Description: Philadelphia left fielder Domonic Brown sat out Tuesday and could miss even more time as manager Ryne Sandberg tries to give him a "mental break." SOURCE: Comcast Sportsnet Philadelphia
Insight: An All-Star for the Phillies last season, Brown hasn't been able to find his stroke in 2014. John Mayberry (.232, 5 HR, 20 RBI) is starting in left field tonight and could see regular at bats there if Brown (.218, 5 HR, 37 RBI) doesn't get his act together soon.
Tony Gwynn Jr., CF6/24/2014 7:35:00 PM
Description: Phillies outfielder Tony Gwynn Jr. has been activated from the restricted list.
Insight: He left the team to be with his family following the death of his father. Gwynn (.155, 0 HR, 3 RBI) is available off the bench tonight against Miami.
Grady Sizemore, OF6/24/2014 7:03:00 PM
Description: Grady Sizemore has agreed to a minor league deal with the Phillies. SOURCE: Chris Cotillo, SB Nation

Jimmy Rollins, SS6/23/2014 10:16:00 AM
Description: Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins is 8-for-21 (.381) with a 1.099 OPS versus Miami right-hander Nathan Eovaldi.
Insight: Rollins (.244, 8 HR, 29 RBI, 11 SB) is no longer a top fantasy shortstop, but you can still pick and choose a few good matchups. This is one of them.
Ben Revere, CF6/22/2014 11:49:00 AM
Description: Philadelphia center fielder Ben Revere is back in action Sunday against St. Louis. SOURCE: Jim Salisbury, Comcast Sportsnet Philadelphia
Insight: Revere had missed the Phillies' previous two games because of a swollen knee. Though not a power hitter (one homer in 406 career games), Revere hits for a high average and steals lots of bases.
Carlos Ruiz, C6/22/2014 11:45:00 AM
Description: Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz is getting a breather Sunday versus the Cardinals. SOURCE: Jim Salisbury, Comcast Sportsnet Philadelphia

Description: Phillies center fielder Ben Revere was kept out of the starting lineup for the second straight day Wednesday against Atlanta. SOURCE: Jim Salisbury, Comcast Sportsnet Philadelphia
Insight: Revere, who has been bothered by knee issues, did make a pinch-hitting appearance in the eighth inning. There's a sense of cautious optimism that he'll be able to start Thursday against St. Louis.

Description: Phillies starter Kyle Kendrick has won two straight starts for the first time since last July 11 and 19 of 2013.

Tony Gwynn Jr., CF6/16/2014 8:34:00 PM
Description: The Phillies have placed outfielder Tony Gwynn Jr. on the bereavement list.
Insight: Gwynn's father, Hall of Fame outfielder Tony Gwynn, lost his battle with cancer earlier today. Gwynn (.155, 0 HR, 3 RBI) gives Philadelphia some outfield depth behind starters Marlon Byrd, Domonic Brown and Ben Revere but he isn't a fantasy option.
Jimmy Rollins, SS6/15/2014 3:36:00 PM
Description: Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins insisted during spring training that he would not waive his no-trade clause but now he seems a little more open to it. SOURCE: ESPN
Insight: Rollins (.250, 8 HR, 26 RBI) recently passed Mike Schmidt to become Philadelphia's all-time hits leader. Though Rollins' preference is to remain with the team that drafted him in 1996, he acknowledged that there's always a chance the last-place Phillies could "blow everything up."
Marlon Byrd, RF6/15/2014 11:16:00 AM
Description: Philadelphia right fielder Marlon Byrd has been unable to do any damage against Cubs starter Travis Wood.
Insight: Byrd has a .300 average, four homers and an .894 OPS in 60 at-bats against lefties this season, but he's 3-for-17 (.176) against Wood.
Jimmy Rollins, SS6/14/2014 6:59:00 PM
Description: Philadelphia shortstop Jimmy Rollins became the Phillies' all-time hit leader Saturday with a single in the fifth inning.
Insight: Rollins has 2,235 hits, one better than Mike Schmidt. The shortstop has had a solid season, hitting .249 with eight homers, 26 RBI, 34 runs and 11 steals. He refused to waive his no-trade clause at the trade deadline last year because he said he wanted to set some Phillies records. Now that he's Philadelphia's all-time hit king, perhaps he'll waive his no-trade this season.
Domonic Brown, LF6/14/2014 6:28:00 PM
Description: Phillies outfielder Domonic Brown is on pace to drive in 86 runs even though he's only batting .218 with five homers and a .598 OPS.
Insight: Just five players since 1901 have driven in at least 80 runs while posting an OPS of .650 or worse. Brown could become the sixth. The outfielder went 1-for-4 with a homer and three RBI Saturday against the Cubs.
Chase Utley, 2B6/14/2014 6:27:00 PM
Description: Phillies second baseman Chase Utley went 1-for-4 with a solo homer Saturday against the Cubs.

Jimmy Rollins, SS6/14/2014 11:22:00 AM
Description: Philadelphia shortstop Jimmy Rollins is 5-for-9 (.556) with a pair of home runs against Cubs starter Edwin Jackson.
Insight: Rollins tied Mike Schmidt for the Phillies all-time hit record (2,234) on Friday night and should break the record in this favorable matchup on Saturday. He's batting .249 this season with eight homers, 26 RBI, 33 runs and 10 steals. That's certainly fantasy worthy.

Insight: Just the normal day game off after a night game for a catcher. Ruiz is batting .279 with two homers, 11 RBI and 26 runs scored.
Ryan Howard, 1B6/12/2014 11:48:00 AM
Description: Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard is 2-for-2 with two homers versus Padres left-hander Eric Stults.
Insight: That statistic is completely out of character for Howard, who normally can't hit left-handers at all. He's batting .206 against southpaws in 2014 with a .680 OPS. It's probably best to ignore the two at-bats. Plus there is a 70 percent chance of rain in Philadelphia on Thursday afternoon. Update: Howard is not in the starting lineup.

Cliff Lee, SP6/11/2014 3:51:00 PM
Description: Phillies starter Cliff Lee (elbow strain) played catch Tuesday, according to Ryan Lawrence of the Philadelphia Daily News.
Insight: Lee had not thrown since May 19 due to a strained left elbow. He said he barely felt any soreness Tuesday, but Lee could need a month's worth of throwing and rehab starts before he returns to the rotation.
A.J. Burnett, SP6/10/2014 10:38:00 PM
Description: Philadelphia right-hander A.J. Burnett enjoyed one of his best outings of the season Tuesday against San Diego.
Insight: Burnett looked much better than he did in his previous start (6 IP, 10 H, 8 ER Wednesday against the Nationals), allowing just three hits and two earned runs in 7 1/3 innings. He'll toe the rubber again Sunday versus the Cubs.
Jonathan Papelbon, RP6/10/2014 10:16:00 PM
Description: Tuesday's save against the Padres was the 300th of Jonathan Papelbon's career.
Insight: That puts him at No. 24 on the all-time list. Papelbon (1-1, 1.48 ERA) has been one of the best closers of the last ten years, compiling a 2.37 ERA over 585 1/3 career innings. He's converted 14 of his 15 save chances in 2014.

Insight: Byrd drove in four of the Phillies' five runs. The 36-year-old has been a consistent source of power in an otherwise listless lineup. Byrd (.264, 10 HR, 38 RBI) will look to extend his hitting streak to five games on Wednesday night.
Cliff Lee, SP6/10/2014 5:36:00 PM
Description: Phillies starter Cliff Lee (elbow strain) is "very close to picking up a ball," manager Ryne Sandberg said. SOURCE: philly.com

Insight: Utley is now hitting .320, good for fifth-best in the National League. He's on pace for 195 hits this year, which would be his most since 2006. It would be a mild upset if Utley isn't invited to his sixth All-Star Game later this year.
