Description: Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco went home on Monday to attend a personal matter, but is expected to return to the team on Tuesday.

Billy Hamilton, CF4/20/2015 10:25:00 AM
Description: Cincinnati center fielder Billy Hamilton (groin) sat out Sunday and should be considered day-to-day.
Insight: Hamilton's best asset is his blazing speed, so this injury could be a big drag on his ability to steal bases. He's 8-for-8 this season which is a huge improvement over his 56 steals and 23 times caught stealing in 2014 (70.8 percent).
Joey Votto, 1BHot4/19/2015 10:36:00 PM

Description: Reds third baseman Todd Frazier is just 1-for-9 with five strikeouts against Cardinals starter Carlos Martinez.
Insight: Frazier has hit three homers this season, but is batting just .220 through the first 10 games and this unfavorable matchup isn't likely to help.

Description: Reds first baseman Joey Votto went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in the, 6-1, loss to the Cardinals on Friday.
Insight: Votto has continued to hit very well in the two-hole of the Reds lineup. He is slashing .378/.489/.811 with four home runs and 10 RBI this season. Votto is proving he definitely wasn't healthy last season.
Devin Mesoraco, C4/17/2015 5:59:00 PM
Description: Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco is not cleared to catch yet, but he is available to pinch hit on Friday according to MLB.com.
Insight: Mesoraco has an impingement in his left hip, so it might be awhile until he starts catching again. For what it's worth, he is trying very hard to avoid the disabled list.
Jay Bruce, RF4/17/2015 11:30:00 AM
Description: Reds outfielder Jay Bruce should be avoided on Friday night against the Cardinals and Michael Wacha.

Devin Mesoraco, C4/14/2015 10:59:00 AM
Description: Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco is doubtful for Tuesday's game against the Chicago Cubs to a left hip issue.
Insight: Mesoraco was scheduled to have an MRI on the hip, but we haven't heard any news. It can't be a good sign that the team brought up catcher Kyle Skipworth from the minors. Mesoraco was a huge factor in 2014 setting career marks in nearly every category including 25 HR, 80 RBI and an .893 OPS.
Devin Mesoraco, C4/13/2015 4:20:00 PM
Description: Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco sat out Sunday for a rest day, but it may also have been related to a left hip issue.

Description: Reds outfielder Jay Bruce smacked a homer Sunday against St. Louis.
Insight: Bruce has just a .200/.360/.500 line early this year, but does have two homers through six games. The power will be there for him.
Todd Frazier, 3B4/11/2015 5:02:00 PM
Description: Reds third baseman Todd Frazier hit another home run as he continued his hot start to the 2015 season.
Insight: Frazier went 2-for-4 in the loss to the Cardinals on Saturday with a solo bomb. He has three home runs with six RBI in the first five games of the season. He is also hitting .316 with a .842 slugging percentage.
Johnny Cueto, SP4/11/2015 4:52:00 PM
Description: Reds right-hander Johnny Cueto had another solid start on Saturday but received the loss.
Insight: Cueto pitched seven innings, allowing just one earned run on four hits. He also struck out four and walked one, but the Cardinals scored an unearned run, and the Reds mustered just one run versus Michael Wacha. Cueto also didn't win on Opening Day as the bullpen blew his seven shutout innings, so he is 0-1 this season.
Joey Votto, 1BHot4/10/2015 9:40:00 PM
Description: Reds first baseman Joey Votto smashed two more homers Friday against the Cardinals.
Insight: He went 2-for-3 with four RBIs, two runs, and the two home runs. Votto has a .412/.444/.941 line through four games this season.
Aroldis Chapman, RP4/9/2015 4:42:00 PM
Description: Reds closer Aroldis Chapman picked up a victory Thursday against the Pirates.
Insight: This is great for fantasy owners, as wins are just an added bonus for closers. Chapman pitched a scoreless ninth and struck out two. The Reds pieced together the game-winning run, with the climax coming on a Gregory Polanco error, allowing Jay Bruce to score.
Joey Votto, 1BHot4/9/2015 4:40:00 PM
Description: Reds first baseman Joey Votto continued his solid start to the 2015 season.
Insight: After two RBI last night, including the walk-off knock, Votto was back at it on Thursday. He helped the Reds sweep Pittsburgh with his first homer of the year. It was a two-run shot, and Votto now has four RBI through three games.
Jay Bruce, RF4/9/2015 10:12:00 AM
Description: Reds outfielder Jay Bruce is just 3-for-27 (.111) with 10 strikeouts against Pirates right-hander A.J. Burnett.
Insight: Bruce usually hits right-handers better than lefties (.262 vs. .226), but this is an exception to the rule. The Reds left-handed slugger homered on Opening Day as he tries to rebound from a disappointing 2014. Thursday is probably a day for fantasy owners to look elsewhere.
Jay Bruce, RF4/6/2015 7:33:00 PM
Description: Reds outfielder Jay Bruce went 1-for-2 with a solo bomb against the Pirates on Opening Day.
Insight: The Sports Network has Bruce has a big bounce back candidate this season, and this is a great way for Bruce to start 2015.
Todd Frazier, 3B4/6/2015 7:30:00 PM
Description: Reds third baseman Todd Frazier hit a three-run bomb in the bottom of the eighth as Cincinnati beat Pittsburgh, 5-2, on Opening Day.
Insight: Frazier was 1-for-4 on the day, hitting the impressive homer down the left field line on Pirates stellar relief pitcher Tony Watson. Frazier should be a top-five option at third base this season.
Johnny Cueto, SP4/6/2015 7:26:00 PM
Description: Reds right-hander Johnny Cueto pitched excellent versus the Pirates on Opening Day.
Insight: Even a rain delay in Cincinnati couldn't slow down Cueto, who pitched seven shutout innings, allowing just four hits. He also struck out 10 and walked just one. The Reds bullpen, however, blew the lead in the eighth before Todd Frazier's home run gave Cincinnati the lead for good, so Cueto did not get the victory.
Jay Bruce, RF4/6/2015 10:39:00 AM
Description: Reds outfielder Jay Bruce is a career 0-for-16 with six strikeouts against Pirates starter Francisco Liriano.
Insight: Bruce hit just .217/.281/.373, but he is one of The Sports Network's bounce back candidates this season. It just isn't likely to start on opening day against Liriano. Sit him.
Paul Maholm, SP3/30/2015 1:50:00 PM
Description: Left-hander Paul Maholm has been released by the Reds on Monday.
Insight: Maholm couldn't win a starting job and there was no room in the bullpen. He went 1-5 with a 4.84 ERA and 1.557 WHIP last season for the Dodgers.
Devin Mesoraco, C3/29/2015 5:30:00 PM
Description: Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco left Sunday's game with a cramp in his quad.

Aroldis Chapman, RP3/29/2015 10:03:00 AM
Description: Reds closer Aroldis Chapman struck out the side in his one inning on Saturday versus the Cubs.
Insight: Chapman appears to be in midseason form already, strikout out 16 and walking just three in 11 innings. He will once again be one of the top closers taken in fantasy drafts this season.
Todd Frazier, 3B3/29/2015 10:01:00 AM
Description: Reds third baseman Todd Frazier went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and four RBI on Saturday versus the Cubs.
Insight: Frazier also hit a home run on Thursday. He has four dingers this spring with 12 RBI. Frazier is also hitting .262 in March, showing that once again he can provide power, a little bit of speed and an ok average.
Devin Mesoraco, C3/16/2015 9:39:00 AM
Description: Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco (mild concussion) returned to the lineup Sunday.
Insight: You always have to worry about concussions, particularly concerning catchers, but you can stop worrying about Mesoraco. The catcher exploded onto the fantasy scene with a .276 batting average, 25 HR, 78 RBI, 54 runs and a .901 OPS.
Billy Hamilton, CF3/12/2015 4:26:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati center fielder Billy Hamilton (shoulder) returned to batting practice on Wednesday.
Insight: He has been sidelined since last Friday, but is clearly progressing. Hamilton should be ready for Opening Day, and will look to improve upon his .250/.292/.355 line and 56 stolen bases from last season.
Jay Bruce, RF3/11/2015 2:57:00 PM
Description: The Reds scratched outfielder Jay Bruce from Wednesday's lineup due to a strained right calf.
Insight: Bruce hit just .217/.281/.373, but he is one of The Sports Network's bounce back candidates this season. As long as he is healthy, he could be a fantasy sleeper.
Devin Mesoraco, C3/9/2015 2:41:00 PM
Description: Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco suffered a mild concussion when he took a foul tip off his mask in Saturday's game.
Insight: The catcher exploded onto the fantasy scene with a .276 batting average, 25 HR, 78 RBI, 54 runs and a .901 OPS. Each of those is a personal best. Hopefully he won't be out long as he's expected to be a top catching option for fantasy owners.
Johnny Cueto, SP3/6/2015 10:15:00 AM
Description: Reds right-hander Johnny Cueto posted two scoreless innings Thursday.
Insight: Cueto is picking up where he left off. He posted career-highs with 20 wins, a 2.25 ERA and 242 Ks in 243 2/3 innings while finishing a distant second to Clayton Kershaw in the NL Cy Young race. Cueto can become a free agent after this season, so his name could come up at the trade deadline.
Aroldis Chapman, RP3/6/2015 10:12:00 AM
Description: The Reds closer Aroldis Chapman appears to be in mid-season form already, striking out three batters in his Thursday's appearance.
Insight: Chapman posted 106 strikeouts in 54 innings last season along with his 36 saves. He's one of the top closers because he also helps your strikeout total along with his saves.
Raisel Iglesias, SP3/4/2015 8:13:00 PM
Description: Reds pitcher Raisel Iglesias made a spring training debut to forget on Wednesday, allowing two unearned runs.
Insight: Iglesias yieled a single, two walks and two wild pitches. Third baseman Neftali Soto also made a fielding error, which hurt. Despite the rough outing, the Reds like his stuff, and he should get lots more opportunities.
Joey Votto, 1B3/2/2015 2:55:00 PM
Description: Reds first baseman Joey Votto is not up to "game speed," according to manager Bryan Price.
Insight: Votto (knee) should be healthy at the start of the season and has a .310/.417/.533 career slash line. Of course, he was nowhere close to that in 2014 when he hit .255 with six homers and 23 RBI in 62 games. Hopefully the batting stroke will return.
Homer Bailey, SP2/25/2015 3:27:00 PM
Description: Reds starter Homer Bailey might miss opening day according to MLB.com.
Insight: Bailey is recovering from flexor tendon surgery and even though he hasn't suffered a setback, he is a little behind the other pitchers in camp. Price is expected to throw a bullpen session in the next few days.

Joey Votto, 1B1/22/2015 10:49:00 AM
Description: Reds manager Bryan Price said first baseman Joey Votto's health is looking "very, very good" according to MLBlogs.

Billy Hamilton, CF9/28/2014 9:55:00 AM
Description: Cincinnati center fielder Billy Hamilton (concussion) remains out of the lineup for the season finale against Pittsburgh.
Insight: With the Reds out of contention, it made sense for them not to rush Hamilton. He finishes the year as a favorite for the NL Rookie of the Year Award, as he slashed .250/.292/.355 and had 56 stolen bases. Jason Bourgeois gets the start in center field.
Johnny Cueto, SP9/28/2014 9:10:00 AM

Insight: He clubbed another homer for his 29th of the year, Frazier now has 79 RBI, to go along with a .274/.337/.461 line. Owners who gambled on him this year, have had it pay off tremendously.
Jay Bruce, RF9/27/2014 10:05:00 AM
Description: Reds right fielder Jay Bruce is a good choice to sit Saturday as he's hitless in 16 at-bats against Pittsburgh left-hander Francisco Liriano.
Insight: Bruce's numbers are down this year. He is still two home runs shy of 20 on the year, which he has reached in each of his first six seasons, and well of the 30 plus homers he's mashed the past three seasons. Bruce is batting .217 with 18 home runs and 66 RBI this season.

Description: Reds outfielder Chris Heisey is 5-for-12 (.417) with a pair of home runs against Pittsburgh left-hander Francisco Liriano.

Description: Cincinnati center fielder Billy Hamilton was removed from Wednesday game due to a mild concussion and it appears that it may leave him on the bench for the final weekend series.
Insight: If he doesn't play again this season the National League Rookie of the Year contender would finish the season with a .250/.292/.355 line and 56 stolen bases.
David Holmberg, RP9/25/2014 4:15:00 PM
Description: Reds pitcher David Holmberg threw six innings and allowed two runs on three hits as Holmberg captured his second big league victory, 5-3, over the Brewers on Thursday.

Insight: Ludwick has also posted a .442 on-base percentage and .639 slugging percentage in his career against the Milwaukee right-hander. The Reds have a chance to score a lot of runs on Thursday as five hitters in the lineup will have a lifetime .300 or greater batting average against Gallardo.
Billy Hamilton, CF9/24/2014 8:53:00 PM
Description: Updating on a previous item: Cincinnati center fielder Billy Hamilton was removed from Wednesday game due to a mild concussion, according to Mark Sheldon

Johnny Cueto, SP9/23/2014 9:50:00 PM
Description: Reds starter Johnny Cueto earned his 19th win of 2014 beating the Brewers Tuesday.
Insight: He did so in spectactular fashion, going eight innings, giving up one earned run and eight strikeouts. Any other year Cueto would be in the running for the CY Young Award. However, this year he will have to settle for a potential 20-win season.
Todd Frazier, 3BCold9/23/2014 1:36:00 PM
Description: Reds 3B/1B Todd Frazier is 1-for-11 with four strikeouts in his career against Milwaukee right-hander Mike Fiers.
Insight: Although he's put together the best season of his career, he's fadied a bit since the All-Star break. He hit 18 homers and batted .290 pre-Summer Cklassic and .252 with eight homers after it. Avoid this matchup.

Joey Votto, 1B9/21/2014 10:53:00 AM
Description: The return of Reds first baseman Joey Votto this season is looking doubtful according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Insight: Votto has taken batting practice and ran the bases this week, but according to Reds manager Bryan Price, he is not pain free. The club has little incentive to bring back the former MVP for one meaningless week of baseball, so we do not expect to see him again until 2015.
Todd Frazier, 3B9/21/2014 10:27:00 AM
Description: Reds 3B/1B Todd Frazier is 3-for-23 with 12 strikeouts in his career against Cardinals pitcher Lance Lynn.

Description: Reds right fielder Jay Bruce is a career .480 (12-for-25) hitter with two home runs, two triples, a double and eight RBI against Cardinals starter Lance Lynn in his career.
Insight: Bruce was likely on your bench on Saturday as he was 0-for-11 against Michael Wacha in his career coming into the game. Bruce should go back into the lineup with this favorable matchup on Sunday.
Mike Leake, SP9/21/2014 9:31:00 AM
Description: Reds starter Mike Leake pitched seven great innings, allowing one run on three hits, struck out eight and walked two but received a no-decision as the Reds lost, 3-1, to the Pirates on Friday.

Description: Reds right fielder Jay Bruce is a "must sit' Saturday against Cardinals right-hander Michael Wacha.
Insight: Bruce is 0-for-11 with seven strikeouts in their matchups. He's had an off season in 2014 and is unlikely to crack the 20-home run mark this season (he's got 16 at the moment) after three consecutive 30-homer seasons.
Brandon Phillips, 2B9/17/2014 4:02:00 PM
Description: Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Cubs.

Billy Hamilton, CF9/17/2014 3:57:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati center fielder Billy Hamilton is not in the Reds lineup on Wednesday against the Cubs.

Description: Reds starter Johnny Cueto pitched his worse start since May 20, allowing six runs in five and 2/3 innings and losing to the Cubs, 7-0, on Tuesday.
Insight: Cueto obviously did not have his control as he struck out eight but also walked five batters, a season high. To put things in prespective, Cueto walked just seven batters in six starts during the month of May. He is still in the Cy Young conversation, even though Clayton Kershaw is the clear leader, at 18-9 with 2.33 ERA, 228 strikeouts and 0.98 WHIP.
Ryan Ludwick, LF9/15/2014 4:37:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati outfielder Ryan Ludwick is not in the starting lineup Monday night versus the Cubs.
Insight: Ludwick's playing time has been sporadic of late, but he has hit well over the past 14 days (7-for-20, with 1 HR and 3 RBI). His inconsisent playing time, makes for a tough start for fantasy owners moving forward. Jason Bourgeois gets the nod in left field tonight.
Jay Bruce, RF9/15/2014 4:32:00 PM
Description: Reds right fielder Jay Bruce getting the night off on Monday.
Insight: It's just a routine night off against Cubs' lefty Travis Wood. Bruce has been extremely disappointing this season (.215 BA, 16 HR, 61 RBI, .284 OBP), but always has the potential to leave the yard. He should be back in the lineup tomorrow.
Kristopher Negron, 2B9/15/2014 3:43:00 PM
Description: Reds second baseman Kris Negron will get another start at second base with Brandon Phillips getting a routine day of rest.
Insight: Negron is batting just .246, but has a solid .748 OPS with 12 extra-base hits in 114 at-bats. He's 0-for-2 against Monday's starter, Travis Wood.

Alfredo Simon, SP9/15/2014 11:20:00 AM
Description: Cincinnati's All-Star starter Alfredo Simon has continued to struggle mightily during the second half of 2014.
Insight: Overall, Simon is 2-7 with a 4.96 ERA since the All-Star break (12-3, 2.70 ERA before All-Star break), and has not been any better during his past three starts (1-2, 5.50 ERA). He will look to get it together tonight when the Reds head to Wrigley to take on the Cubs, and with the wind blowing in tonight at 11 MPH, combined with the quality of the opponent, Simon could be line to do just that.

Description: Reds right fielder Jay Bruce has eight hits, including two home runs in 22 career at-bats against Brewers pitcher Matt Garza.

Todd Frazier, 3B9/14/2014 9:32:00 AM
Description: Reds 3B/1B Todd Frazier went 3-for-4 with two runs and a strikeout to help the Reds defeat the Brewers, 5-1, on Saturday.

David Holmberg, RP9/14/2014 9:25:00 AM
Description: Reds pitcher David Holmberg threw six innings and allowed one run on two hits as Holmberg captured his first big league victory, 5-1, over the Brewers on Saturday.
Insight: Aramis Ramirez hit a solo home run off Holmberg in the fourth to score the only Milwaukee run. Holmberg will likely start again next week, but it would be unrealistic to expect another start like Saturday's. In three starts, he is 1-1 with a 6.00 ERA over 18 innings this year.
Joey Votto, 1B9/12/2014 1:50:00 PM
Description: Reds 1B Joey Votto (quad) made the trip to Milwaukee with the team.

Johnny Cueto, SPHot9/11/2014 3:12:00 PM
Description: Reds starter Johnny Cueto pitched eight shutout innings, allowed three hits, struck out seven and walked one as the Reds defeated the Cardinals, 1-0.

Description: Reds right fielder Jay Bruce is hitless in 11 career at-bats, with seven strikeouts, against right-hander Michael Wacha.
Insight: The streaky hitter is in one of his typical cold spells (15-for-89) and this matchup doesn't figure to help him get out of it. UpdateL Bruce is not in the starting lineup.

Todd Frazier, 3B9/5/2014 11:01:00 PM
Description: Reds 3B/1B Todd Frazier was 3-for-5 with an RBI and run in a losing effort against the Mets on Friday.

Homer Bailey, SP9/4/2014 4:10:00 PM
Description: Reds starter Homer Bailey (elbow) will undergo forearm surgery on Friday to repair a torn tendon.
Insight: Cincinnati is hopeful that Bailey will be ready for the start of the 2015 season, but that is up in the air at this point. After signing a outlandish six-year, $105 million contract in February, Bailey was highly disappointing, pitching to a 9-5 record with a 3.71 ERA in 145 and 2/3 innings this year.

Description: Reds right fielder Jay Bruce is 6-for-11 (.545) with a home run against Pirates starter Edinson Volguez.

Todd Frazier, 3BHot7/13/2014 5:23:00 PM
Description: Reds third baseman Todd Frazier went 1-for-5 Sunday, but his lone hit was a home run.
Insight: Frazier has a big chance to introduce himself to casual baseball fans during the All-Star break, as he'll participate in the Home Run Derby and the All-Star Game. Fantasy owners are already very familiar with him, as he's batted .290 with 19 homers, 53 RBI, 57 runs, 14 steals and an .852 OPS this season.
Jay Bruce, RF7/13/2014 12:14:00 PM
Description: Reds right fielder Jay Bruce doesn't have a hit in 14 career at-bats against Pirates starter Francisco Liriano.

Description: Reds third baseman Todd Frazier continues to pound the baseball with a pair of hits and his 18th home run of the season Saturday night.

Description: Cincinnati center fielder Billy Hamilton went 3-for-5 with one RBI Friday against Pittsburgh.

Description: Reds third baseman Todd Frazier is 5-for-12 (.417) with one home run against Pittsburgh starter Jeff Locke.
Insight: Frazier carried the Reds offense early on this season and has been playing at an All-Star level, batting .289 with 17 HR, 48 RBI, 13 SB and an .842 OPS. Cincinnati will need him to carry them a bit further with all the injuries they have suffered recently (Joey Votto, Brandon Phillips, Billy Hamilton).
Billy Hamilton, CF7/10/2014 5:09:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati center fielder Billy Hamilton was not in Thursday's starting lineup, but did get into the game as a pinch hitter.
Insight: It's never good when a speed guy injuries a leg, but the fact he was used on as a pinch hitter is a good sign.. Hamilton has been one of the best players in fantasy baseball over the past month.
Brandon Phillips, 2B7/10/2014 4:48:00 PM
Description: Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips diagnosis has been changed to a torn ligament in his left thumb and will miss 8-12 weeks, according to Ken Rosenthal.

Devin Mesoraco, CHot7/10/2014 10:10:00 AM
Description: Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco is not in Thursday afternoon's starting lineup.
Insight: Routine day off after a night game, though with the Reds having so many missing parts its a little bit surprising. The 26-year-old catcher continues amaze batting .306 with 14 doubles, 15 home runs, 43 RBI and a .976 OPS in 196 at-bats. Brayan Pena will get the start, but has no fantasy value.
Brandon Phillips, 2B7/10/2014 10:08:00 AM
Description: Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips has been diagnosed with a sprained left thumb and will miss Thursday's game.
Insight: Phillips suffered the injury Wednesday when his glove hand bent while he was diving for a ground ball. His X-rays came back negative so he doesn't have a fracture, but he may have an MRI to check if he has any structural damage. He could easily sit until after the All-Star game.
Billy Hamilton, CF7/10/2014 10:06:00 AM
Description: Cincinnati center fielder Billy Hamilton left Wednesday's game with tightness in his left hamstring and is not in Thursday's starting lineup.
Insight: It's never good when a speed guy injuries a leg, but hopefully he'll only miss a couple of days. Hamilton has been one of the best players in fantasy baseball over the past month. Description: Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips has been diagnosed with a sprained left thumb, according to C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Billy Hamilton, CFHot7/9/2014 10:00:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati center fielder Billy Hamilton left Wednesday's game with tightness in his left hamstring, according to C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Insight: The Reds keep losing key players. Joey Votto went on the DL this week and Brandon Phillips left Wednesday's game as well with a sprained left thumb. Hamilton has been one of the best players in fantasy baseball over the past month. His main weapon is his speed, so a hamstring injury could be troublesome.
Brandon Phillips, 2B7/9/2014 9:47:00 PM
Description: Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips exited Wednesday's game after appearing to hurt his left wrist, according to C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Insight: Phillips' glove hand bent while he was diving for a ground ball. Joey Votto was placed on the disabled list Tuesday, so the Reds can't afford losing Phillips.
Billy Hamilton, CFHot7/8/2014 7:46:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati center fielder Billy Hamilton went 2-for-4 with a double and two steals Tuesday against the Cubs.
Insight: Hamilton has batted .330 with 11 doubles, a triple, three homers, 21 RBI, 17 runs and 14 steals over his last 27 games.
Jay Bruce, RFHot7/8/2014 7:38:00 PM
Description: Reds right fielder Jay Bruce homered for the third straight game Tuesday against the Cubs.
Insight: Bruce has gone 4-for-12 with three homers, seven RBI and five runs in his last three games after going 0-for-21 from June 29 to July 5. This is nothing new for Bruce, who may be the streakiest hitter in the league.
Joey Votto, 1B7/8/2014 12:07:00 PM
Description: The Reds Joey Votto has been placed on the disabled list due to a quad injury.
Insight: Votto (.255, 6 HR, 23 RBI, .799 OPS) had zero homers since he returned from the same injury on June 10 after spending nearly a month on the disabled list and he clearly needs more time off. He'll get it. Jay Bruce, Todd Frazier and Brayan Pena will all likely see time at 1B.
Todd Frazier, 3BHot7/8/2014 10:02:00 AM
Description: Reds third baseman Todd Frazier is 6-for-17 (.353) with two home runs against Cubs starter Travis Wood.
Insight: Frazier carried the Reds offense early on this season and has been playing at an All-Star level, batting .293 with 17 HR, 48 RBI, 13 SB and an .859 OPS. He has four multi-hit games in the last five contests.
Jay Bruce, RF 7/7/2014 11:04:00 PM
Description: Reds right fielder Jay Bruce homered for the second straight game Monday against the Cubs.
Insight: Bruce started at first base with Joey Votto sidelined. He's one of the streakiest hitters in the league and could be streaking in the right direction now after going 0-for-21 from June 29 to July 5.
Billy Hamilton, CF7/7/2014 11:02:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati center fielder Billy Hamilton drove in four runs Monday against the Cubs.
Insight: Hamilton had one RBI on a single in the fifth inning and cleared the bases with a triple in the eighth. The 23-year-old has proven there's more to his game than just speed since the start of June.
Joey Votto, 1BCold7/7/2014 6:19:00 PM
Description: The Reds are waiting for test results on Joey Votto's quad before they place him on the disabled list, according to Mark Sheldon of mlb.com.
Insight: Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reported Sunday that Votto (.255, 6 HR, 23 RBI, .799 OPS) was going to go on the DL with a strained left quad and he likely still will. He's batted just .250 with zero homers since he returned from the same injury on June 10 after spending nearly a month on the disabled list and he clearly needs more time off.
Jay Bruce, RFCold7/7/2014 3:51:00 PM
Description: Reds right fielder Jay Bruce will start at first base Monday night.
Insight: With Votto sidelined, Bruce could gain 1B eligibility. Bruce has got to be the streakiest hitter in the big leagues. When he's hot you have to start him every day, but when he's cold it doesn't matter whether its a good matchup or bad. Bruce has one hit in his last 18 at-bats.
Joey Votto, 1BCold7/6/2014 5:20:00 PM
Description: Reds first baseman Joey Votto (knee/quad) will be placed on the DL, according to Ken Rosenthal.
Insight: Votto (.255, 6 HR, 23 RBI, .799 OPS) hasn't homered since May and might as well get sit out and get healthy because he's not doing fantasy owners any good limping around at 60 percent.
Aroldis Chapman, RP7/6/2014 4:46:00 PM
Description: Reds closer Aroldis Chapman did not close on Sunday, that job went to Jonathan Broxton.
Insight: Chapman is dealing with a sore hamstring, according to manager Bryan Price. It doesn't appear to be serious and he should be back for their next game on Tuesday.
Jay Bruce, RF7/6/2014 4:21:00 PM
Description: Reds right fielder Jay Bruce ended a six-game hitless streak with a home run in the eighth inning.
Insight: Bruce has got to be the streakiest hitter in the big leagues. When he's hot you have to start him every day, but when he's cold it doesn't matter whether its a good matchup or bad.
Jay Bruce, RF7/6/2014 10:56:00 AM
Description: Reds right fielder Jay Bruce is 15-for-44 with two home runs and nine RBI against Brewers right-hander Yovani Gallardo.
Insight: Bruce, like Brandon Phillips, has great numbers against Gallardo and has been struggling of late, so perhaps he's due for a big afternoon. Three of his 15 hits against the Milwaukee righty have been doubles and he's also walked four times and stolen two bases against him.
Brandon Phillips, 2B7/6/2014 10:49:00 AM
Description: Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips owns a robust .351 lifetime average against Milwaukee right-hander Yovani Gallardo with two home runs and eight RBI in 57 at-bats.
Insight: Holy sample size, Batman. Phillips, naturally, has seen Gallardo quite a bit, notching 20 hits off of him with two doubles and three homers. The Reds' longtime second baseman has been cold of late (.206/.263/..382 in his last 10), so maybe facing Gallardo will jumpstart his bat.
Joey Votto, 1BCold7/6/2014 10:41:00 AM
Description: Reds first baseman Joey Votto (knee/quad) will sit out Sunday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Insight: Votto (.255, 6 HR, 23 RBI, .799 OPS) hasn't homered since May and can probably use some time off. At this time he isn't fantasy worthy.
Ryan Ludwick, LF7/6/2014 10:38:00 AM
Description: Cincinnati outfielder Ryan Ludwick is in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against Yovani Gallardo and the Brewers.
Insight: Ludwick hasn't played much of late, but has a favorable matchup against Gallardo. He's a career .375 hitter (12-for-32) with three home runs in their matchups.
Devin Mesoraco, CHot7/5/2014 1:20:00 PM
Description: Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco is in Saturday afternoon's starting lineup, not sitting this one out as previously announced.
Insight: The 26-year-old catcher continues amaze batting .313 with 13 doubles, 15 home runs, 41 RBI and a 1.020 OPS in 176 at-bats. Brayan Pena will get the start, but has no fantasy value.
Jay Bruce, RFCold7/5/2014 11:00:00 AM
Description: Reds right fielder Jay Bruce is 8-for-19 (.421) with two homers against Milwaukee starter Matt Garza.
Insight: Bruce's recent hot streak is a thing of the past as he's hitless over the past five games. At times like this his hot/cold streak usually outweighs the matchup. Look elsewhere for outfield help.
Billy Hamilton, CF7/4/2014 10:28:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati center fielder Billy Hamilton went 1-for-4 with a homer and two RBI Friday against the Brewers.
Insight: Hamilton has surprisingly hit five home runs to go with his 35 steals and 41 runs. He's been one of the most valuable hitters in fantasy since the start of June.
Alfredo Simon, SPHot7/4/2014 10:23:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati starter Alfredo Simon tied Adam Wainwright and Zack Greinke for the NL lead with 11 wins after beating the Brewers Friday.
Insight: Simon (2.78 ERA) threw 7 1/3 innings and allowed two runs on six hits. The 33-year-old is a strong regression candidate because he's posted a 4.35 FIP and a .233 BABIP.
Todd Frazier, 3B7/4/2014 11:42:00 AM
Description: Reds third baseman Todd Frazier is just 1-for-12 against Milwaukee starter Kyle Lohse.
Insight: Frazier has been very good this season, batting .289 with 17 HR, 47 RBI, 13 SB and an .859 OPS. This unfavorable matchup, however, should be avoided.
Joey Votto, 1BCold7/4/2014 10:31:00 AM
Description: Reds first baseman Joey Votto (knee/quad) limped his way through the recent road trip and is a shell of the player fantasy owners are used to seeing.
Insight: Votto has batted .263 with zero homers, 10 RBI and a .729 OPS in 21 games since he returned from the disabled list. At this point he's providing no power and can't be installed in lineups. Another trip to the DL could be in his near future.
Joey Votto, 1BCold7/2/2014 3:00:00 PM
Description: Reds first baseman Joey Votto is getting a day off Wednesday, according to C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Insight: Votto has batted .267 with zero homers, 10 RBI and a .738 OPS in 20 games since he returned from a left quad strain.

Description: Cincinnati right-hander Homer Bailey fired his fourth career shutout Sunday at San Francisco.
Insight: Bailey's last two shutouts were no-hitters. He gave up just three hits and struck out seven Sunday. After going 1-2 with a 6.15 ERA over his first five starts, Bailey has gone 7-2 with a 3.79 ERA in his last 12.
Devin Mesoraco, CHot6/29/2014 1:56:00 PM
Description: Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco is not in Sunday afternoon's starting lineup.
Insight: Simply a routine day off for Mesoraco. The 26-year-old catcher continues his stunning season batting .307 with 11 doubles, 14 home runs, 40 RBI and a .999 OPS in 166 at-bats.
Jay Bruce, RFHot6/29/2014 11:09:00 AM
Description: Reds right fielder Jay Bruce is in one of his typical hot streaks and has a favorable matchup on Sunday making him a must-start candidate.
Insight: Bruce is 3-for-7 with a home run against Tim Hudson, but more importantly is hitting .440 over his last six games and batting .323 over the past four weeks. Never abandon Bruce while he's hitting like this.
Jay Bruce, RFHot6/28/2014 10:53:00 AM
Description: Reds right fielder Jay Bruce is in one of his typical hot streaks and has a favorable matchup on Saturday making him a must-start candidate.
Insight: Bruce is 6-for-13 against the struggling Matt Cain, hitting .440 over his last six games and batting .315 over the past four weeks.
Jay Bruce, RFHot6/27/2014 10:40:00 AM
Description: Reds right fielder Jay Bruce is in one of his typical hot streaks and at this time you should ignore the bad matchup and play him anyway.
Insight: Bruce is just 1-for-12 against Madison Bumgarner, but he's also hitting .417 this week, on a seven-game extra-base hitting streak and batting .307 over the past four weeks.
Brandon Phillips, 2B6/26/2014 5:52:00 PM
Description: Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips is back in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Giants. SOURCE: MLBlogs.com
Insight: He missed last night's game with a bruised heel. Phillips' numbers aren't as good as last year (5 HR, 33 RBI in 285 at bats) but because second base is a shallow position in fantasy, he still has plenty of value.
Brandon Phillips, 2B6/26/2014 10:09:00 AM
Description: Cincinnati second baseman Brandon Phillips was scratched Wednesday against the Cubs and is questionable for Thursday's game against San Francisco.
Insight: His bruised heel hasn't fully healed yet. Phillips (.274, 5 HR, 33 RBI) would be a nice option if he's in the lineup as he's 8-for-16 in his career against Ryan Vogelsong.
Mat Latos, SP6/25/2014 10:47:00 PM
Description: Reds starter Mat Latos was dominant in Wednesday's victory over the Cubs.
Insight: He held Chicago to one run in seven innings. Latos has looked sharp since his return from the DL, going 1-0 with a 2.89 ERA in three appearances.
Brandon Phillips, 2B6/25/2014 6:16:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati second baseman Brandon Phillips was scratched Wednesday against the Cubs. SOURCE: John Fay, Cincinnati Enquirer
Insight: His bruised heel hasn't fully healed yet. Phillips (.274, 5 HR, 33 RBI) could be available to pinch-hit later in the game. Skip Schumaker (.223, 1 HR, 11 RBI) is starting at second base.
Joey Votto, 1B6/25/2014 11:20:00 AM
Description: Reds first baseman Joey Votto is a career .381 hitter with two homers and three doubles against Cubs starter Edwin Jackson.
Insight: Votto's season has been a disappointment so far and his home-road splits are concerning. Despite his success against Jackson, he's hit all six of his home runs at Great American Ballpark and is batting .326 there as opposed to .204 on the road. If this game wasn't at Wrigley, he'd be a much stronger play.
Devin Mesoraco, CHot6/24/2014 9:39:00 AM
Description: Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco reached base five times and hit a ninth-inning grand slam off Hector Rondon Monday at Chicago.
Insight: Mesoraco also walked twice and was hit by two pitches. The 26-year-old catcher has homered in each of his last four games and is hitting .315 with 10 doubles, 13 home runs, 38 RBI and a 1.035 OPS in 146 at-bats. For some reason, he's still available in 28 percent of Yahoo leagues.
Brandon Phillips, 2B6/23/2014 8:23:00 PM
Description: Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips didn't start Monday against the Cubs.
Insight: Phillips suffered a bruised heel on a backswing and left Sunday's game. He's day-to-day. Skip Schumaker started Monday.
Devin Mesoraco, C6/23/2014 10:22:00 AM
Description: Cincinnati catcher Devin Mesoraco is a career .545 hitter (6-for-11) with a home run against Cubs ace Jeff Samardzija.
Insight: Mesoraco's "career year" continues - he's batting .310 with a career-high 12 homers and a .992 OPS. He had another hot week with three homers in his last four games.
Alfredo Simon, SPHot6/23/2014 9:15:00 AM
Description: Cincinnati starter Alfredo Simon held the Cubs to one run on five hits and struck out five in seven innings Monday, though he took a no decision and remained 10-3.
Insight: Simon continues to defy his fielding-independent numbers (4.41 FIP) and now has a 2.92 ERA. He's been incredibly lucky to this point, getting a .240 BABIP despite a 20.2 percent line-drive rate and a 9.5 percent infield fly-ball rate, neither of which are extraordinary. He should fade in the second half.
Johnny Cueto, SPHot6/22/2014 5:21:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati right-hander Johnny Cueto picked up his seventh win of the season Sunday against the Blue Jays and lowered his MLB-leading ERA in the process.

Brandon Phillips, 2B6/22/2014 4:18:00 PM
Description: Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips suffered a bruised heel Sunday against Toronto. SOURCE: Mark Sheldon, MLB.com
Insight: Phillips went 0-for-2 before leaving in the fifth inning. It's unknown if Phillips (.274, 5 HR, 33 RBI) will be ready to play tomorrow against the Cubs.
Billy Hamilton, CF6/22/2014 10:11:00 AM
Description: Cincinnati center fielder Billy Hamilton will get the day off Sunday against Toronto. SOURCE: Reds on Twitter
Insight: Hamilton (.273, 4 HR, 23 RBI) will have to wait until Monday to extend his eight-game hitting streak. Eleven of Hamilton's 31 steals this season have come in the last month.
Mike Leake, SP6/21/2014 7:41:00 PM
Description: Reds starter Mike Leake was dealing Saturday against Toronto.
Insight: Leake (5-6, 3.59 ERA) limited the Jays to four hits and one run in eight innings of work. He'll go for his third win in a row Thursday against the Giants.
Zack Cozart, SS6/21/2014 1:24:00 PM
Description: Reds shortstop Zack Cozart is not in Saturday's starting lineup.
Insight: Cozart has done nothing this season, batting .237 with two homers and 17 RBI. He hit 15 homers in his first full season back in 2012 and a dozen last season, but at this pace won't get close to doubler digits. Ramon Santiago will get the start, but has no fantasy value.
Jay Bruce, RF6/21/2014 10:24:00 AM
Description: Always streaky Reds outfielder Jay Bruce has been stuck in a bad rut through the first part of the season and isn't likely to come out of it against left-hander J.A. Happ.
Insight: Bruce (.218, 6 HR, 24 RBI) did homer on Friday night, but is just 1-for-9 with five strikeouts against the Blue Jays left-hander.
Brandon Phillips, 2B6/21/2014 10:20:00 AM
Description: Cincinnati second baseman Brandon Phillips is a career .500 hitter (6-for-12) with three homers, six RBI and a 1.867 OPS versus Blue Jays left-hander J.A. Happ.
Insight: Phillips (.275, 5 HR, 32 RBI) has been solid the past two weeks, batting over .300 with 10 RBI and should continue in this favorable matchup. He's unlikely to reach last year's triple-digit RBI total, but that's primarily due to no longer being the everyday cleanup hitter.
Ryan Ludwick, LF6/20/2014 2:06:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati left fielder Ryan Ludwick didn't play Thursday and isn't in Friday's starting lineup against Toronto.
Insight: Ludwick has been dealing with "back tightness." He was 5-for-8 in the recent two game series with Milwaukee and had gone 2-for-4 before the injury against Pittsburgh. He picked a bad time to come up lame, just as his bat was heating up.
Billy Hamilton, CFHot6/19/2014 5:35:00 PM
Description: Reds center fielder Billy Hamilton has gone 12-for-24 (.500) with four doubles, two homers, six RBI and six steals in his last five games.

Insight: Frazier is playing at an elite level in June with seven homers and a .977 OPS. For the season he's batting .273, 16 HR, 41 RBI. He's a must start in the favorable matchup.
Billy Hamilton, CFHot6/18/2014 9:29:00 AM
Description: Reds center fielder Billy Hamilton contributed three hits and three steals Tuesday in a win over Pittsburgh.
Insight: Hamilton is scorching hot right now. Since the start of the month, he's hitting .340 with three homers, eight RBI and eight steals. It took him a little while to get going but Hamilton (.272, 4 HR, 18 RBI) is finally living up to his massive hype.
Devin Mesoraco, C6/17/2014 2:19:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati catcher Devin Mesoraco is not in Tuesday's starting lineup, Brayan Pena will be behind the plate.
Insight: A .241 lifetime hitter, Mesoraco is having a "career year" batting .305 with a career-high nine homers and a .920 OPS. He's come back to earth in June, batting .184 through 10 games.
Todd Frazier, 3BHot6/15/2014 6:45:00 PM
Description: Reds third baseman Todd Frazier plated four runs Sunday in a win over the Brewers.
Insight: The power surge continues for Frazier, who now has six jacks in only 53 June at bats. At this rate, Frazier (.273, 15 HR, 39 RBI) could have a new career-high in homers by the All-Star break.
Devin Mesoraco, C6/15/2014 5:47:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati catcher Devin Mesoraco delivered three hits Sunday in a win against Milwaukee.
Insight: A .241 lifetime hitter, Mesoraco has been almost unstoppable in 2014 with nine homers and 28 RBI in 37 games. Unfortunately, he's been a risky fantasy proposition because he splits time at catcher with Brayan Pena (.262, 3 HR, 13 RBI).
Ryan Ludwick, LF6/15/2014 5:40:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati left fielder Ryan Ludwick exploded for four hits Sunday in a win against Milwaukee.

Insight: The hits keep on coming for Hamilton, who is now batting .306 in 49 at bats this month. With 25 steals already this season, Hamilton (.264, 4 HR, 18 RBI) should be owned in all fantasy leagues.
Jay Bruce, RF6/15/2014 11:24:00 AM
Description: Reds outfielder Jay Bruce has been a massive disappointment this season, but he has a great matchup Sunday against Brewers starter Marco Estrada.
Insight: Bruce (.215, 5 HR, 21 RBI) is a career .368 hitter with a double and four home runs in 19 at-bats against Estrada, who has allowed a whopping 20 home runs in 79 innings this season.

Description: Reds center fielder Billy Hamilton is not in Thursday afternoon's starting lineup.
Insight: Hamilton's numbers at the plate aren't great (.252, 2 HR, 14 RBI, .634 OPS), but he has 24 steals and 27 runs.

Description: Cincinnati right-hander Johnny Cueto was at it again Wednesday against the Dodgers.
Insight: Los Angeles managed just three hits in Cueto's six innings of work. If the season ended today, Cueto would be the easy choice for the National League Cy Young Award. He leads the NL in both strikeouts (109) and ERA (1.85) and is second in quality starts (11).

Insight: Mesoraco has been a fantasy stud since coming off the disabled list. He's batting .324 with nine homers, 27 RBI and a 1.016 OPS in 30 games. It appears to be a routine day off.
Mat Latos, SP6/6/2014 10:42:00 AM
Description: Cincinnati right-hander Mat Latos (elbow) left his third and what was expected to be his final rehab start due to a leg cramp.
Insight: Latos was expected to throw 90-100 pitches and then rejoin the Reds rotation. He may make one more rehab start because of the cramping issue, but a final decision hasn't been announced. In 2013 Latos went 14-7 with a 3.16 ERA and 1.21 WHIP - certainly fantasy worthy numbers.
Todd Frazier, 3BHot6/5/2014 4:12:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati third baseman Todd Frazier hit his third homer in four games to raise his total to 12 in 57 games.

Description: Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips has had great success (7-for-14) against San Francisco right-hander Ryan Vogelsong in his career.
Insight: Phillips (.269, 4 HR, 22 RBI) has been his regular ol' self this season, batting close to his lifetime average of .271 and he's well on-pace to record his fifth career season of 30 doubles or more. Six of his seven hits against Vogelsong have been singles, but that shouldn't dissuade you from starting him in all formats.

Description: Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco's lone hit left the park on Tuesday.
Insight: Mesoraco has nine homers this season. He has gone 8-for-47 (.170) in his last 13 games but hit five homers in that span and is still batting .347 with a 1.084 OPS and 27 RBI on the year.

Description: Reds first baseman Joey Votto (quad) should be headed out on a short rehab assignment this week.

Johnny Cueto, SPHot6/1/2014 9:24:00 AM
Description: Reds starter Johnny Cueto tossed 7 1/3 scoreless innings and struck out seven batters Saturday night.

Insight: Mesoraco sent Zack Greinke packing in the top of the eighth with his two-out jack. The catcher was just 2-for-25 (.080) in his previous seven games, which wasn't surprising because he hit .500 in his first 54 at-bats.
Zack Cozart, SS5/25/2014 12:16:00 PM
Description: Reds shortstop Zack Cozart hasn't had much luck against Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright in his career.
Insight: He's hitting a buck-82 against him with four strikeouts in 22 at bats. Cozart, a .250 lifetime hitter in 343 major league appearances, isn't currently on the fantasy radar.

Description: Reds outfielder Jay Bruce (knee) has been activated from the disabled list, though he isn't in Wednesday's lineup.
Insight: Bruce had surgery to repair a partially torn meniscus in his left knee just over two weeks ago. He was expected to miss 3-4 weeks but needed the minimum amount of time on the DL. The Reds need him back with Joey Votto (quad) going on the disabled list Wednesday.
Joey Votto, 1B5/21/2014 5:52:00 PM
Description: The Reds have placed first baseman Joey Votto (quad) on the 15-day disabled list.
Insight: Votto was hoping to return this weekend, but the team will give him more time to get healthy. The move was made retroactive to May 16, so Votto is eligible to return on June 1. He should be back around that date.

Description: Cincinnati catcher Devin Mesoraco is out of the lineup Tuesday after catching all 15 innings Monday against the Nationals.
Insight: Mesoraco went 0-for-6 with a walk Monday but he has batted .450 with four homers, eight doubles, 17 RBI and a 1.283 OPS. He's also made two trips to the disabled list already, which is why he only has 60 at-bats. The former first-round pick should be owned in all leagues.
Joey Votto, 1B5/20/2014 5:08:00 PM
Description: Reds manager Bryan Price said Tuesday that he is "optimistic" Joey Votto (quad) will return to the lineup Friday against the Cardinals, according to C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Joey Votto, 1B5/19/2014 11:13:00 AM
Description: Reds first baseman Joey Votto will miss Monday's game against Washington due to a strained left quadriceps
Insight: That's good news as the team was worried about his surgically-repaired left knee. He's batting .257 with six homers and 12 RBI. Still a very patient hitter, fantasy owners would like to see him get more aggressive and take less walks.
Devin Mesoraco, C5/18/2014 6:08:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati catcher Devin Mesoraco went ballistic Sunday versus the Phillies.
Insight: Mesoraco went 4-for-4 with two doubles and a pair of singles. Somehow, he's hitting .500 for the season with 17 RBI in just 54 at bats. Mesoraco has been splitting time behind the plate with Brayan Pena and Toby Barnhart but that may not last if he keeps hitting like this.
Brandon Phillips, 2B5/18/2014 9:56:00 AM
Description: Cincinnati 2B Brandon Phillips has been very successful in his career against Phillies starter Cliff Lee.
Insight: Phillips has gone 10-for-31 (.323) with five doubles and a homer against Lee and has hit .347 with eight doubles and two home runs in May. He should be one of the players you consider for second base on Sunday.
Homer Bailey, SP5/17/2014 9:57:00 PM
Description: Reds starter Homer Bailey was lit up by the Phillies on Saturday night.
Insight: Bailey gave up six runs on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings. He had gone 2-0 with a 2.95 ERA in his first three starts of May, but his ERA and WHIP are back up to 5.44 and 1.58. Bailey's issues have been partially caused by a .348 BABIP, but he has no one to blame but himself for a 3.16 BB/9 and a 1.58 HR/9.
Devin Mesoraco, C5/16/2014 10:03:00 PM
Description: Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco (left hamstring) hit a three-run homer in his first at-bat back from the disabled list Friday night.

Description: According to C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer, Reds first baseman Joey Votto's MRI revealed no structural damage in his knee.
Insight: Votto has a left quad strain and won't be placed on the disabled list yet. It's relatively good news because it initially appeared that the first baseman hurt his left knee, which was surgically repaired in 2012.
Joey Votto, 1B5/16/2014 12:05:00 PM
Description: Reds first baseman Joey Votto did not travel to Philadelphia with the rest of the team and could be headed for the disabled list, according to Ken Rosenthal.
Insight: Votto's batting average is down about 50 points from last season and he is once again a very patient hitter, leading the league with 33 walks, but his left knee has apparently been acting up and we await the results of an MRI.
Joey Votto, 1B5/16/2014 9:54:00 AM
Description: Reds first baseman Joey Votto is 6-for-15 (.400) with three extra-base hits against Phillies right-hander Kyle Kendrick.
Insight: Votto's batting average is down about 50 points from last season and he is once again a very patient hitter, leading the league with 33 walks, but he's still a viable fantasy option. Beware of bad weather along the east coast which could make this selection a bit of a gamble.
Zack Cozart, SS5/15/2014 10:11:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati shortstop Zack Cozart pounded three hits in Thursday's win over the Padres.
Insight: Cozart plated two runs in the victory. That snaps a streak of 16 consecutive games without a run batted in. Cozart (.208, 1 HR, 11 RBI) will have a good game now and then but he isn't consistent enough to be on the fantasy radar.
Johnny Cueto, SPHot5/15/2014 7:25:00 PM
Description: Reds ace Johnny Cueto continued to pitch like a Cy Young contender Thursday against the Padres (9 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 8 K's).

Brandon Phillips, 2B5/14/2014 11:41:00 AM
Description: Cincinnati 2B Brandon Phillips is hitting .077 in his career against San Diego right-hander Ian Kennedy.
Insight: Phillips (.285, 2 HR, 9 RBI) had three hits in last night's series opener but we don't imagine he'll enjoy much success Wednesday with Kennedy (2-4, 3.12 ERA) throwing for the Padres.
Tony Cingrani, SP5/14/2014 10:28:00 AM
Description: Cincinnati left-hander Tony Cingrani expects to be activated from the 15-day DL Saturday against the Phillies. SOURCE: Cincinnati Enquirer

Brandon Phillips, 2B5/13/2014 9:47:00 PM
Description: Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips went 3-for-4 with a double and one RBI Tuesday against San Diego.
Insight: Phillips (.285) has just nine RBI in 36 games this season; he drove in 21 runs in his first 18 games of 2013. He's also not running much for the second straight season. If you can get someone to buy him for his 20-20 production of 2009 or even his 18-103-5 numbers last year, go for it.
Mat Latos, SP5/13/2014 7:50:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati right-hander Mat Latos (elbow) threw his first bullpen session on Sunday since he suffered a right flexor mass strain in April and he'll throw another one on Wednesday, according to mlb.com's Mark Sheldon.

Homer Bailey, SP5/11/2014 6:20:00 PM
Description: Reds starter Homer Bailey improved to 3-2 Sunday with a win over Colorado.
Insight: He limited the Rockies to just four hits and one run over 7 1/3 innings. After getting off to a slow start, Bailey has won three of his last five outings with an impressive 3.24 ERA over that span.
Aroldis Chapman, RP5/11/2014 4:16:00 PM
Description: Reds closer Aroldis Chapman made his 2014 season debut on Sunday and looked as solid as ever.
Insight: Chapman underwent surgery after taking a line drive off his face in spring training. He walked the first hitter (Troy Tulowitzki), then struck out the heart of the Rockies order - Carlos Gonzalez, Nolan Arenado and Justin Morneau.
Todd Frazier, 3BHot5/11/2014 4:12:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati third baseman Todd Frazier slammed his seventh homer of the season Sunday against Colorado.
Insight: Frazier has now hit safely in 11 consecutive games to raise his average to .266 with 21 RBI and 21 runs. He was batting just .210 on April 19, but is hitting .323 since.
Brandon Phillips, 2B5/11/2014 9:29:00 AM
Description: Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips has gone 3-for-3 (.158) with a double, triple and home run against Colorado right-hander Juan Nicasio.
Insight: Ok, the sample size is tiny, but he's obviously seeing the ball well. Phillips is batting .279 this season, but his .695 OPS is the worst since he became a full-time starter.
Alfredo Simon, SP5/10/2014 10:36:00 PM
Description: Reds right-hander Alfredo Simon allowed five runs on eight hits (3 HR) in three innings Saturday against Colorado.

Description: Reds first baseman Joey Votto is a career .667 (6-for-9) versus Rockies hurler Jordan Lyles.

Zack Cozart, SS5/10/2014 1:23:00 PM
Description: Reds shortstop Zack Cozart is 5-for-7 (.714) against Colorado starter Jordan Lyles.
Insight: Cozart's bat has been silent all season (.195, 1 HR, 9 RBI), so despite this favorable matchup we recommend looking elsewhere. He's been a double-digit home run producer the past two seasons, but his OPS has headed in the wrong direction in each succeeding season.
Johnny Cueto, SPHot5/9/2014 10:00:00 PM
Description: Cincinnati right-hander Johnny Cueto remained 3-2 despite allowing two runs on five hits in eight innings Friday against Colorado.
Insight: Cueto has a 1.43 ERA and a 0.73 WHIP this season, but he's received very little run support. The right-hander is obviously due for some regression -- he has a .160 BABIP and a 99.5 LOB% -- but he's still an excellent starter who has a 9.71 K/9 and a 2.29 BB/9.

Description: Reds GM Walt Jocketty doesn't expect Billy Hamilton (fingers) to need a trip to the disabled list, according to John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Insight: Tuesday will be Hamilton's fourth straight game out of the lineup due to sprained knuckles on his left hand. He pinch ran on May 1 and 4 but felt pain when he tried to swing a bat on Tuesday.
