Dunn to coordinate Duquesne's defense
Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Duquesne University head football coach Jerry Schmitt named Gary Dunn as the team's new offensive coordinator Wednesday.
Dunn, a Pittsburgh native, is returning home after serving as offensive coordinator for 11 of the last 14 seasons at Morehead State.
"He is a great fit for our program because of his extensive experience, teaching ability, concern for student-athletes and ability to recruit at this level," Schmitt said. "He has earned a reputation as an excellent football coach and on top of that is a high-quality person. We are happy to have Gary join us as we prepare for the 2011 season."
Dunn attended Pittsburgh's Seton-La Salle High School, where he played for former Duquesne head coach Greg Gattuso, and then attended the California University of Pennsylvania, where he was a four-year starter and all- conference performer at center.
He began his coaching career at Cal as a student assistant in 1994 and finished as a graduate assistant in 1997. He then joined Morehead State's staff as offensive line/tight ends coach and special teams coordinator. He assumed offensive coordinator responsibilities in 2000.
Duquesne finished with a 7-4 record, including a 5-3, third-place finish in the Northeast Conference last season.
