Duquesne extends Schmitt's contract
Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Duquesne University rewarded head football coach Jerry Schmitt with a multi-year contract extension that secures him as the Dukes' coach through 2013-14.
Schmitt, a 50-year-old native of Pittsburgh, has a 33-29 record in six seasons with the Dukes. He led them to a 7-4 record this season, including a 5-3 conference record in their third season as an associate member of Northeast Conference football.
"As we continue to build based on a scholarship model, it is important that we maintain continuity within the football program," Duquesne athletic director Greg Amodio said in a statement. "Securing Jerry to guide the program is a big step in maintaining that continuity. We look forward to his leadership as we continue to grow."
Duquesne won Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Football League championships in each of Schmitt's first three seasons from 2005-07.
