Indiana State names Walters offensive coordinator

Terre Haute, IN (Sports Network) - Indiana State named former NFL wide receiver Troy Walters as the team's new offensive coordinator Wednesday.

Walters will also be quarterbacks and wide receivers coach.

"After talking with (head coach) Trent (Miles), I became very excited about the direction he has the Sycamore football program going in," Walters said. "I am very excited about the opportunity to come here. Coaching football has been a goal of mine and working with this program is a great start to this phase of my career."

Walters, who does not have any previous coaching experience, was picked in the fifth round of the 2000 NFL draft by Minnesota. Over seven NFL seasons with Minnesota, Indianapolis, Arizona and Detroit, Walters accumulated 102 catches for 1,135 yards and nine touchdowns.

Walters went to the NFL after a standout career at Stanford, during which he had 244 career catches for 3,986 yards and 26 TDs and won the Biletnikoff Award as a senior as the nation's top receiver.
