NCAA Game Summary - Auburn at Mississippi State

(Saturday, September 8th)

Final Score: Mississippi State 28, Auburn 10

Starkville, MS (Sports Network) - Tyler Wilson tossed three touchdown passes, leading the Mississippi State Bulldogs to a 28-10 triumph over Auburn in the SEC opener for both teams at Davis Wade Stadium.

For the Bulldogs (2-0, 1-0 SEC), it marked the first time they won their SEC opener in the last 13 tries. Russell was an efficient 20-of-29 passing, finishing with 222 yards and no interceptions. Two of his TD passes went to Marcus Green, while LaDarius Perkins led the charge on the ground with 83 yards and a score on 14 carries.

The Tigers, (0-2, 0-1) who were coming off a narrow loss to 12th-ranked Clemson in last week's opener, could not overcome five turnovers and faded badly in the second half. Kiehl Frazier was intercepted three times and finished with just 125 yards on 13-of-22 passing.

After a scoreless first quarter, Auburn got on the board first with a 23-yard field goal by Cody Parkey at the 9:40 mark of the second quarter.

However, the Bulldogs answered with a seven-play, 70-yard scoring drive, capped by Russell's 30-yard touchdown pass to Green.

Auburn's Onterio McCalebb ran back the second half kickoff 100 yards to pay dirt, putting the Tigers back on top, 10-7.

Once again, the Bulldogs responded on their next drive. This time, Russell hooked up with Chad Bumphis for a 13-yard scoring strike to polish off an eight-play, 75-yard march.

Later in the third quarter, Russell found Green again for a three-yard touchdown pass to make it a 21-10 game.

Mississippi State extended its lead to 28-10 at the 12:33 mark of the fourth quarter, as LaDarius Perkins broke loose for a 21-yard touchdown run to round out the scoring.

Auburn was held to just 216 yards of total offense for the game. In addition to his three picks, Frazier also lost a pair of fumbles.
