GAME NOTES: A pair of teams riding winning streaks collide at the Bob Carpenter Center tonight, as the William & Mary Tribe takes on the Delaware Blue Hens in Colonial Athletic Association play.
The Tribe have won three straight, while Delaware is on a four-game victory surge. The game pits the top two offenses in the CAA, as W&M is averaging 74.0 ppg, behind Delaware's 81.2 ppg.
William & Mary beat Drexel, 85-73, one week ago. Marcus Thornton led the way with 18 points. Omar Prewitt and Brandon Britt each added 15 points. Kyle Gaillard scored 14 and Terry Tarpey pulled down 10 rebounds to go along with nine points.
Thornton (19.4 ppg) leads the Tribe in scoring. W&M has averaged 11.3 made 3- pointers over its last three contests. Prewitt, a freshman, paces all CAA rookies with 14.1 ppg and 5.0 rpg. Tim Rusthoven (12.7 ppg) is five points shy of 1,000 for his career. William & Mary leads the CAA in field goal percentage (.464), 3-point percentage (.384), assists (13.8 apg) and steals (6.3 spg).
Delaware is coming off a 78-74 win at James Madison last Saturday. Devon Saddler poured in 25 points for the Blue Hens, who also received 21 points and five rebounds from Davon Usher. Jarvis Threatt tallied 16 points and four assists, while Marvin King-Davis pulled down nine boards. Delaware senior forward Carl Baptiste suffered a sprained left ankle during the first half and is listed as questionable for tonight's game.
Saddler (21.2 ppg) paces the Blue Hens in scoring. Threatt (17.9 ppg) and Usher (17.4 ppg), along with Kyle Anderson (13.7 ppg), are part of the starting lineup for a team that is limiting opponents to 30.4 percent success from 3-point range -- the best mark in the CAA.
Delaware has won four consecutive home games since a home-opening loss to Charleston Southern. Even if Baptiste (9.8 ppg, 7.3 rpg) doesn't play, expect the Blue Hens to come away with their fifth straight win over the Pride. Since joining the CAA, Delaware has taken eight of the nine meetings at home against William & Mary.
Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Delaware 84, William & Mary 75
