GAME NOTES: A pair of struggling teams tangle this afternoon when the Austin Peay Governors play the Samford Bulldogs in a non-conference affair.

Both squads are coming off defeats. Samford was an 89-73 loser at home against Tennessee-Martin on Wednesday. Austin Peay suffered an 80-74 setback at the hands of the East Tennessee State Buccaneers, also on Wednesday night.

Samford has yet to beat a Division I opponent this season. Their three victories have come against Martin Methodist, Campbellsville, and Kentucky State. This is the finale of a four-game homestand for the Bulldogs, who shot 50 percent from the field on Wednesday, but were just 3-of-15 from beyond the arc. Tim Williams scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Bulldogs.

Williams, a 6-foot-8 sophomore forward, paces the team with 15.7 points and 6.9 rebounds. Freshman guard Isaiah Williams is averaging 13.0 points and Raijon Kelly comes off the bench for 11.1 ppg. The Bulldogs, who have six true freshmen and three sophomores on their team, have struggled defensively, having allowed 82.5 points per contest.

Travis Betran scored 20 points, Ed Dyson 15 and Chris Horton contributed 13 points and nine rebounds in Austin Peay's loss on Wednesday. Like the Bulldogs, the Governors come into today's game struggling at the defensive end, allowing over 80 points per game. They're also shooting only 65 percent from the foul line. Betran leads the team with 12.9 points per game, followed closely by Horton (12.6) and Will Triggs (11.4). Four of the five starters are shooting at least 54 percent from the field, with only Betran (32 percent) sitting below that mark. The Govs are making 48.8 percent as a team. Betran is the team's go-to 3-point shooter, but he has connected on only 17-of-59 tries.

This is a matchup between two teams who were both in the Ohio Valley Conference from 2004-08. During that time, the Governors won nine of the 12 matchups. Austin Peay has won 15 of the 21 all-time meetings, including a 75-64 decision last season in Clarksville.

What may keep the Bulldogs in this game is the sloppy play of Austin Peay. The Governors average 17 turnovers a game.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Austin Peay 82, Samford 74
