GAME NOTES: The Dayton Flyers and Auburn Tigers will close out their trip to this year's edition of the Charleston Classic with a battle for fifth place at TD Arena.

The Flyers improved to 2-1 on Friday with a decisive 87-71 victory over the Boston College Eagles in their second round matchup. Freshman Dyshawn Pierre played a huge role in the victory with 10 points in the first half that helped the team take a 37-26 lead into the intermission. Dayton opened up the season with a 74-61 triumph over the Sun Belt Conference's Arkansas State at UD Arena. Dayton then endured a 67-57 setback to Colorado in the first round of the tournament.

The Tigers are also 2-1 after they edged the tourney hosting College of Charleston by four points on Friday. Auburn managed to come out on top despite converting just 35.8 percent of its field goal attempts and being outrebounded, 42-26. Its defensive pressure was the difference as Auburn forced 18 turnovers to slow down the Cougars. Frankie Sullivan caught fire after the break to score 20 of his game-high 24 points in the second half.

This will be the fourth meeting in history between these programs. The Flyers have come out of all prior meetings victorious.

Dayton is a balanced squad this season with four different players carrying double-digit scoring averages after three games. Pierre and Josh Benson are tied for third on the team with 10.7 ppg. Vee Sanford is pacing the team with 13.7 ppg, but point guard Kevin Dillard is the team's motor. The All- Atlantic-10 Preseason First Team selection is scoring 12 ppg, but more importantly, handing out five assists per contest which provides the Flyers' offense with unselfish flow.

Dillard will be challenged in the backcourt by the shoot-first point guard Sullivan. Auburn's floor general is netting 19 ppg on 43.1 percent shooting, but he has handed out just two assists in three games. Center Rob Chubb is second on the squad with 8.7 ppg while adding a team-high nine boards per game. The Tigers are a very good defensive team due to their depth. Nine different players are registering at least 13 minutes per game.

This will be an interesting Atlantic 10/SEC matchup. Sullivan is the only true scoring option for the Tigers, but their defensive intensity eradicates a need for vast amounts of production on the offensive end of the floor. Auburn will win if it manages to control the tempo of the game.
