GAME NOTES: The Georgia State Panthers look to extend their winning streak to three as they visit Kaplan Arena for a Colonial Athletic Association clash with the William & Mary Tribe.

The Panthers coasted to a 74-58 decision when they hosted William & Mary on Jan. 16, behind a 21-point performance by Manny Atkins. Tim Rusthoven registered a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Tribe in the first meeting, which left William & Mary with a 7-6 all-time series edge.

The Panthers took down Hofstra, 61-43, at home before tipping off their three- game road trip with a 78-60 rout of George Mason on Saturday. The back-to-back wins have pushed GSU to a 14-14 overall record that includes a 9-6 mark in CAA action. R.J. Hunter, the son of head coach Ron Hunter, is averaging a team- high 17.4 points per game. Hunter is one of five freshmen nationally to be averaging at least 17 points and five rebounds per game.

Devonta White (14.6) and Atkins (14.2) are also in double figures in scoring. Atkins (6.2 rpg) leads the team in rebounding. The duo are among the top four in the conference in 3-point shooting, which helps the Panthers to their 36.7 percent clip from long distance. That's the second-best mark in the CAA, behind only Northeastern. The ability to scorch the nets from long distance was on display versus GMU, as the Panthers drained 10-of-19 attempts from 3- point range to power the victory. Hunter and White combined for 48 points as the team hit on 53.7 percent of its field goal tries.

After winning just twice during a 13-game span, William & Mary defeated UNC-Wilmington (92-86) at home and followed the win with a 74-62 victory at Old Dominion. The slide hindered William & Mary's chances of competing for the regular season CAA title and it currently sits at 5-9 in league play. Marcus Thornton is pacing the team in scoring (18.8 ppg) and assists (2.8), while Rusthoven provides 14.4 points and 7.5 boards per game.

Thornton netted a career-high 32 points in the win over ODU and Tony Shaver became the school's all-time winningest coach in the process. Shaver, who is in his 10th season at William & Mary, earned his 114th win at the school. He passed Bill Chambers, who coached at the school from 1957-66. The Tribe never trailed in the game as Thornton connected on seven 3-pointers to improve his season total to 77. William & Mary shot 45.1 percent from the floor and converted 18-of-22 at the charity stripe while ODU went 28-of-56 from the field and missed all seven of its free-throw tries.

GSU had very little trouble against the Tribe in the first matchup, but the homecourt advantage is going to help William & Mary in round two. This one could get exciting as it seems that Thornton and Hunter are destined for a scoring duel.
