GAME NOTES: The Wisconsin Badgers eye their third straight win on Saturday when they host the Samford Bulldogs in a non-conference affair at Kohl Center.
Wisconsin improved to 7-1 at home last Saturday, as Ryan Evans led all scorers with 19 points to lead the Badgers over the Milwaukee Panthers, 74-53. Evans shot 8-of-16 from the floor and added seven rebounds in the triumph for Wisconsin, which has won four of five overall.
Samford, meanwhile, hasn't played since Dec. 19 when it picked up its first road win of the season, as Will Cook netted 18 points to help the Bulldogs get past the Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks, 75-62.
It was the first time Samford topped the 70-point plateau all season, as it snapped a three-game losing streak and won for only the third time in 13 tries.
Five Bulldogs scored in double figures, with Raijon Kelly and Tim Williams adding 16 points each. Clide Geffrard Jr. chimed in with 11 points and Connor Miller chipped in with 10 points. Kelly also dealt out six assists while Geffrard Jr. and Cook pulled down six boards each. Kelly and Tim Williams have both scored in double figures in all 13 of the team's games. Williams, the Bulldogs' true freshman guard, is leading the squad in both scoring (14.7 ppg) and rebounding (7.8 rpg) this year, while Kelly is averaging 13.8 points and 3.6 assists per contest.
Ben Brust scored 13 points, while Jared Berggren chipped in 11 points and seven boards in last Saturday's win for the Badgers. Wisconsin also out- rebounded Milwaukee 36-21, including a 10-3 margin on the offensive glass, as it upped its mark to 7-0 this season when grabbing more rebounds than its opponents. Averaging a solid 72.1 ppg at this stage, the Badgers have four players scoring in double figures, led by Berggren with 13.7 ppg, followed by Brust with 12.1 ppg as the pair combine to also clear close to 14 rebounds per contest as well. Defensively, Wisconsin is holding its opponents to just 56.8 ppg.
Even though the Badgers aren't a dominating force this season, they are strong enough to keep Samford at bay in this the first-ever matchup between the schools.
Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Wisconsin 74, Samford 63
