Troy, AL (SportsNetwork.com) - Hunter Williams netted 19 points and connected on 5-of-9 shooting from 3-point distance as the Troy Trojans coasted past the Texas State Bobcats, 72-50, in a Sun Belt Conference clash at Trojan Arena.
Antoine Myers scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds for Troy (10-19, 5-12 SBC), which will enter the conference tournament as the eighth seed. Kevin Thomas chipped in with 13 points, and Jeff Mullahey contributed 12 with five assists in the win.
Kavin Tilbury and Corey Stern each scored 10 points to pace Texas State (8-22, 4-13), which ends its season as the last-place finisher in the Sun Belt Conference. Emani Gant pulled down a team-high seven rebounds in the loss for the Bobcats.
Troy shot 44.4 percent from the floor in the first half, and hit 4-of-11 from beyond the 3-point arc to take a 33-26 lead into the intermission. Texas State connected on just 30.8 percent of its field goal attempts in the frame.
The Trojans heated up in the second half, making 51.6 percent of their shots, despite going just 2-of-7 from deep. The Bobcats improved to 40.9 percent shooting from the field in the period, but went just 1-of-6 from distance and were outscored by 15 points in the half.
Troy held the advantage in points in the paint, 38-22, and had the edge in rebounding, 40-26. Texas State won the battle in bench scoring, 31-18.
