Hattiesburg, MS (SportsNetwork.com) - Neil Watson scored 18 points as the Southern Miss Golden Eagles beat the Georgia State Panthers in overtime, 75-65, in a non-conference matchup at Reed Green Coliseum.
Aaron Brown scored 14 points for the Golden Eagles (8-1). Daveon Boardingham added 12 points and Michael Craig had a double-double with 10 points and 12 boards. Jeremiah Eason also brought down 10 rebounds.
The Panthers (3-6) were led by Ryan Harrow's 20 points. R.J. Hunter added 15 points with eight rebounds and four assists. Manny Atkins chipped in 14 points while Devonta White had 13.
The Panthers got into foul trouble early by committing 13 first half fouls. Southern Miss went 17-of-21 at the charity stripe to help give it a 32-24 lead into the break. Georgia State shot 40 percent from the field and 4-of-13 from 3-point range. The Golden Eagles shot 33.3 percent from the floor and 3- of-9 from 3-point range.
The Panthers shot well in the second half, going 48 percent from the field and 2-of-5 from behind the 3-point line. The Golden Eagles struggled shooting only 39.1 percent on field goal attempts and making 3-of-10 3-point shots. Georgia State took a 55-54 lead with 3:29 left after a basket by Harrow. With one second left, Watson hit a 3-point shot to tie the game at 61 and send it to overtime.
Southern Miss dominated the overtime period, outscoring the Panthers 14-4. The Golden Eagles scored eight of their 14 overtime points in the paint.
Southern Miss held the edge on the glass, outrebounding Georgia State, 44-34. The Golden Eagles bench played well, outscoring the Panthers' reserves 31-1.
