Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Led by 18 points from Milton Doyle, the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers downed the Illinois-Chicago Flames, 73-70, in a crosstown non-conference battle at Gentile Arena.
For the Ramblers (4-5), Christian Thomas added 14 points, Nick Osborne finished with 12 and Jeff White scored 11.
Marc Brown led the Flames (3-6) with 18 points, while Hayden Humes added 14 points and Kelsey Barlow and Jake Wiegand each chipped in with 10.
Both teams were hot from the floor to start the contest, with Loyola connecting on 62.5 percent of its field goal tries and UIC knocking down 61.5 percent. The Flames went into halftime with a 39-37 advantage.
After intermission, the Ramblers continued to connect on their shots, hitting 66.7 percent from the field in the second half, while holding the Flames to 40.7 percent shooting. Loyola opened the second half on a 7-0 run and never trailed again, as it was able to hold on for the victory.
Loyola finished with a 42-32 scoring advantage in the paint. The Flames did outscore the Ramblers 10-0 on second chance points.
