Youngstown, OH (Sports Network) - Paced by a 31-point effort from Kendrick Perry, the Youngstown State Penguins outlasted the Oakland Golden Grizzlies, 99-87, in the first round of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament at the Beeghly Center.

Perry shot 9-of-18 from the field, including 6-of-10 from 3-point range, and added eight rebounds, five assists and two steals for YSU (18-15), which will advance to the second round to play an opponent to be determined. Blake Allen was also outstanding from beyond the arc (7-of-13) on his way to 27 points, while Kamren Belin (16 points, nine rebounds) and Damian Eargle (12 points, 10 rebounds, six blocks) were both strong in the trenches. Bobby Hain chipped in 11 points off the bench for the hosts.

For Oakland (16-17), Travis Bader poured in 30 points on 5-of-11 from 3-point distance and 9-of-9 from the foul line. Corey Petros tallied 23 points and seven rebounds, while Duke Mondy logged 13 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals in reserve minutes.

The Golden Grizzlies shot 53.1 percent from the floor in the first half as they took a 44-43 lead into intermission. YSU made 45.7 percent of its field goal attempts and kept the game close by draining 11 treys.

The Penguins opened the second half on a 5-0 run and never again trailed as they continued their hot shooting from deep to claim the shootout win.

YSU shot 18-of-35 from beyond the arc on the evening (.514), setting a school record for 3-point buckets in a game. It was also the Penguins' first-ever Division I postseason victory.
