Charleston, SC (Sports Network) - Stacy Wilson scored 23 points to help Murray State erase a double-digit deficit as the Racers defeated the St. John's Red Storm, 72-67, in the semifinals of the Charleston Classic at TD Arena.
Ed Daniel tallied a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Racers (3-0), who will face off against Colorado in the championship game on Sunday. Isaiah Canaan also put up 15 points, and Dexter Fields finished with 11 points, six boards, and three steals.
For St. John's (2-1), D'Angelo Harrison led all scorers with 27 points, his third straight game scoring at least 20 points to start the season, and he also grabbed nine rebounds. JaKarr Sampson chipped in 14 points for the Red Storm, who will play Baylor in the consolation game.
The Red Storm led by as many as 13 with less than five minutes remaining in the opening half, but Murray State went on a 13-3 run to close out the frame, and St. John's led by just three, 35-32, heading into intermission.
With the Racers down, 57-49, with eight and a half minutes to play in the game, they ripped off a 15-2 run to take a 64-59 lead with just under five minutes remaining. The Red Storm had the ball with a chance to tie with a three-pointer in the final minute but came away empty handed.
St. John's shot 44.6 percent from the field on the night, but it made just 2- of-14 three-point attempts, while Murray State drained 10 treys.
