NCAA Game Summary - Samford at Chattanooga

(Monday, February 11)

Final Score: Chattanooga 62, Samford 59 (OT)

Chattanooga, TN (Sports Network) - Gee McGhee led the way with 14 points as the Chattanooga Mocs conquered an overtime test against the Samford Bulldogs, 62-59, in a Southern Conference duel at McKenzie Arena.

Lance Stokes and Drazen Zlovaric scored 13 points apiece for Chattanooga (10-15, 5-7 SoCon), which has won two of three on the heels of a four-game losing streak. Ronrico White added eight points, six assists, and five rebounds for the home team.

For Samford (8-17, 6-6), Raijon Kelly tallied 19 points and six assists, while Tim Williams and Clide Geffrard, Jr. netted 13 and 12 points, respectively. The Bulldogs are now losers of five of their last six games.

Chattanooga shot 46.2 percent from the field in the first half, but Samford was even more impressive at 54.5 percent, as it took a 32-25 lead into intermission.

The Mocs came out of halftime firing, ripping off a 10-3 run to tie the game at 35-35 less than four minutes into the second half. The game remained tight down the stretch, and after Stokes converted a layup with 53 seconds to play to give Chattanooga a 55-53 advantage, Williams drilled a pair of free throws on Samford's next possession to tie the game back up. After an empty possession by both teams, the game went to overtime.

In the extra session, Chattanooga took the lead on a Zlovaric jumper less than a minute in, and it never surrendered that advantage. It shot 4-of-6 from the foul line in the final 22 seconds to seal its fate.

The Mocs dominated the rebounding battle, 43-22, which helped make up for a poor night shooting from beyond the arc (1-of-14).
