Mount Pleasant, MI (Sports Network) - Kyle Randall scored 18 points to help lift the Central Michigan Chippewas over the Texas State Bobcats, 92-80, in non-conference action at McGuirk Arena.
Randall was a perfect 8-of-8 at the free-throw line as the Chippewas (6-4) won their second consecutive game and scored over 80 points for the second straight outing as well after not reaching that mark in their first eight contests. Both Austin Keel and John Simons tallied 17 points each while Chris Fowler scored nine points and handed out seven assists.
Joel Wright had an impressive double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds, but that was spoiled by the third consecutive loss for the Bobcats (4-8). Three other Texas State players finished with double figures including Matt Staff (18 points), Reid Koenen (12), and Corey Stern (10).
Central Michigan led 42-40 after the first half by knocking down seven 3-pointers and shooting 57.1 percent from the floor.
The Chippewas pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Bobcats 50-40, earning 20 points from the free-throw line.
Both teams shot over 50 percent from the field throughout the game but CMU did its damage at the charity stripe where it outscored the visitors by a 23-6 margin.
