(Monday, November 12)

Final Score: Stanford 81, Cal State Fullerton 68

Palo Alto, CA (Sports Network) - Chasson Randle scored a game-high 24 points as he led the Stanford Cardinal to an 81-68 victory over the Titans of Cal State Fullerton in non-conference action at Maples Pavilion.

Also scoring in double figures for Stanford (2-0) in the home opener were Aaron Bright with 16 and Dwight Powell who not only tallied 14 points, he also cleared 12 rebounds in the triumph.

The Titans (0-1), under the direction of assistant coach Julius Hicks while interim coach Andy Newman serves a two-game suspension for secondary NCAA rules violations, were paced by D.J. Seeley and Sammy Yeager who tallied 16 points each. Jared Brandon added 13 points off the bench, while Kwame Vaughn chipped in 12 in the losing effort. Yeager also pulled down a team-best nine rebounds, but was charged with six turnovers without benefit of a single assist.

Stanford led by as many as eight points with less than eight minutes remaining in the first half, but the squad allowed the visitors to fight their way back to a 31-31 tie at the break. The Cardinal ended up shooting just 1-of-8 behind the three-point line through the first 20 minutes of action.

In the second half Fullerton pulled ahead, but it wasn't long before the hosts battled back and built a double-digit advantage, en route to the 13-point victory.

The Cardinal again had trouble on the perimeter after intermission, hitting on just 1-of-5 opportunities, but made up for it with 55.2 percent accuracy from the floor overall and 17-of-21 at the charity stripe.

The Titans hurt themselves tremendously with 25 turnovers.
