Final Score: Iowa State 80, Yale 70
Ames, IA (Sports Network) - Will Clyburn led six Iowa State players in double figures with 17 points on Tuesday, as the Cyclones used a huge second half to take down the Yale Bulldogs, 80-70, at James H. Hilton Coliseum.
Tyrus McGee and Georges Niang each netted 14 points, while Chris Babb and Melvin Ejim donated 11 points apiece for the Cyclones (10-3), who open Big 12 play with a road test against No. 6 Kansas on Jan. 9.
Ejim also added 12 rebounds, while Korie Lucious finished with 10 points and five assists in the victory, Iowa State's fourth in a row.
Jeremiah Kreisberg led Yale (4-10) with 16 points and Javier Duren chipped in 12 points off the bench for the Bulldogs, who have lost their last three games.
Kreisberg's jumper just over five minutes into the second half gave Yale a 48-38 advantage, but the Cyclones answered with a 9-3 swing capped by Clyburn's three-point play to pull within four.
After a Justin Sears dunk, Clyburn knocked down a pair of free throws and Lucious followed with a jumper to knot the game, 55-55.
Duren then missed a pair at the charity stripe before McGee buried a triple to give Iowa State the lead for good.
Yale kept it close and trailed by just three with five minutes left, but Ejim scored the next four points before a three-point play from McGee made it 75-65 with just under four minutes to play.
Iowa State cruised from there, never allowing Yale to get closer than seven the rest of the way.
Early on, Yale built a 35-23 advantage on an Austin Morgan trey with 2:45 left in the first half before Iowa State scored the final four points of the half to trim the deficit to eight heading into the break.
