Syracuse, NY (Sports Network) - Gerardo Suero scored 29 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Albany Great Danes past the Brown Bears, 77-68, in the first game of the NIT Season Tip-Off.
Logan Aronhalt finished with a double-double of 19 points and 13 rebounds for the Great Danes (1-1).
Matt Sullivan paced the Bears (1-1) with 26 points, while Sean McGonagill added 17 points and seven assists.
Albany took a 41-29 halftime lead courtesy of 53.8 percent shooting, including a 5-of-10 performance from beyond the arc.
The Great Danes also played staunch defense over that span, limiting the Bears to just 36.7 percent shooting.
Brown battled back after the break, outscoring Albany 39-36, but the Great Danes hit 13-of-16 second-half free throws to put the game away.
The Bears shot just 38.6 percent from the floor for the game.
