UConn still No. 1 in women's hoops poll
New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Connecticut remained the top team in the latest Associated Press women's college basketball poll, although Duke changed one voter's mind with its win at California on Sunday.
The Huskies, coming off their eighth national championship last April, were a unanimous preseason choice among the nationwide media panel, but No. 2 Duke stole one of the 36 top votes after its 70-58 win in Berkeley.
UConn opened its season with an 89-34 demolition of Hartford on Friday and was set to host No. 3 Stanford on Monday night.
Stanford held its position, as did the next five teams -- Tennessee, Louisville, Notre Dame, Kentucky and Maryland. Baylor and California swapped places, with the Golden Bears dropping to 10th after the loss to the Blue Devils.
The second 10 consists of Oklahoma, North Carolina, Penn State, LSU, Nebraska, Texas A&M, Colorado, Purdue, Michigan State and Oklahoma State.
South Carolina, Iowa State, Dayton, Georgia and Gonzaga are the last five teams ranked. Dayton dropped nine places from 14th after losing to Iowa in overtime.
