Lynx rout Dream in Game 1 of WNBA Finals

Minneapolis, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - Maya Moore had 23 points, seven rebounds and two steals to help the Minnesota Lynx handle the Atlanta Dream, 84-59, in Game 1 of the WNBA Finals.

Monica Wright added 20 points, five rebounds and three steals for the Lynx, who lost to Indiana in the finals last year. Seimone Augustus tallied 19 points.

"Nothing different," Wright said of her mindset going into the game. "It's the Finals, so you want to leave it all out there. But obviously we got it done tonight and my teammates have all the confidence in the world in me and it was just fallin' tonight."

Angel McCoughtry ended with 17 points for the Dream, who are trying to avoid losing in the finals for the third time in the past four seasons. Aneika Henry recorded a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds.

Atlanta lost in the WNBA Finals in 2010 and 2011 to Seattle and Minnesota, respectively.

The Lynx started to take control of the game at the end of the first quarter. Holding a 19-16 lead with under two minutes remaining, Minnesota scored the final five points of the period. Wright's jumper followed by Moore's 3-pointer made it 24-16.

Moore opened the scoring in the second stanza with another 3-pointer. The Lynx pulled away later in the frame with a 15-0 run, which Augustus capped with a layup for a 44-23 edge with 1:50 left.

Alex Bentley stopped the surge with a jumper, getting the Dream within 44-25 at the break.

Holding a 60-43 lead late in the third quarter, the Lynx bridged the third and fourth frames with a 12-0 run to put the game away. Wright tallied five points during the surge, including a jumper with 9:17 to play to make it 72-43.

"We've been through this before, first game against Washington, it was the same thing," McCoughtry said. "We bounced back, we regrouped, we'll figure it out. That's the type of team we are. It's going to be a dogfight. We're here to fight to the end."

Game 2 is scheduled for Tuesday.
