Radwanska wins IW opener
Indian Wells, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Second seed Agnieszka Radwanska was an easy second-round winner Friday at the $5.9 million BNP Paribas Open tennis event at Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
The former Wimbledon runner-up rolled past British qualifier Heather Watson 6-4, 6-3 at this lucrative hardcourt tournament.
Ninth-seeded former French Open runner-up Sara Errani of Italy moved on by dismantling Canadian qualifier Sharon Fichman 6-1, 6-1, while 14th-seeded Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro clipped France's Kristina Mladenovic 6-3, 6-3.
Australian Open semifinalist and rising 18th-seeded Canadian Eugenie Bouchard moved on by handling Chinese Peng Shuai 6-2, 6-2.
Meanwhile, 22nd-seeded Frenchwoman Alize Cornet held off Spaniard Silvia Soler-Espinosa 6-3, 4-6, 6-2; 26th-seeded Czech Lucie Safarova downed Belgian Yanina Wickmayer 6-3, 6-4; American Varvara Lepchenko took out 29th-seeded Slovak Daniela Hantuchova 6-3, 6-2; and 31st-seeded Slovak Magdalena Rybarikova dismissed American wild card Shelby Rogers 6-4, 6-3. Hantuchova was the Indian Wells champion back in 2002.
