Harrison, NJ (Sports Network) - Thierry Henry and Kenny Cooper teamed up to
lead Red Bull New York to a 4-1 win over Toronto FC at Red Bull Arena on
Saturday.
Henry assisted on the first three goals for New York and then scored just
before the final whistle, while Cooper netted two of them to take his tally to
16 on the season, moving the Red Bulls into second place with the Chicago Fire
on 53 points in the Eastern Conference.
Toronto started well and saw a shot from Quincy Amarikwa hit the post in the
second minute before Ryan Johnson found the net a few minutes later with a
rocket from 30 yards that had New York goalkeeper Luis Robles well beaten.
But the home side responded in the 13th minute when Henry's corner kick was
headed home by Markus Holgersson to level the contest.
The Frenchman helped put New York into the lead midway through the first half
with a nice bit of individual skill as he darted into the penalty area, drew
two defenders and laid the ball off for Cooper to knock into the empty net.
New York continued to press the action in the second half, and Toronto
goalkeeper Freddy Hall made a nice diving stop on Henry before Tim Cahill went
close in the 65th minute.
But Henry helped seal the win by setting up another goal for Cooper in the
88th minute and then capping his evening with a lovely chip from outside the
area that sailed over the head of Hall and into the net.
