Monterrey repeats as CONCACAF Champions League winners

Torreon, Mexico (Sports Network) - Neri Cardozo's 82nd-minute goal helped Monterrey clinch its second straight CONCACAF Champions League title on Wednesday despite a 2-1 defeat at Santos in the second leg.

The first leg saw Monterrey bring a 2-0 lead into Wednesday's match courtesy of a pair of goals from Humberto Suazo, who was suspended for the second leg because of an accumulation of yellow cards.

And Santos took advantage by evening the aggregate score at 2-2 thanks to a goal in first-half stoppage time from Daniel Luduena and another early in the second half by Oribe Peralta.

But Monterrey turned up the pressure in the final 20 minutes and Cardozo snatched the win for the visitors when he played a one-two with substitute Walter Ayovi before his shot took a deflection on its into the net.

The win seals a place in the FIFA Club World Cup for Monterrey, which becomes the seventh straight team from Mexico to win the CONCACAF Champions League.
