De Nigris leads Monterrey to third straight win
Monterrey, Mexico (Sports Network) - A goal in each half from Jesus De Nigris led Monterrey to a 2-0 win over Tigres which moves the club to within two points of leaders Santos at the top of the Mexican Clausura table.
De Nigris put his side ahead shortly before halftime and added a second goal nine minutes after the break to help Monterrey to its third successive win.
Tigres entered the weekend in second place but now drops to third on goal difference behind Saturday's opposition.
Santos remains on top of the league by two points after earning a 1-1 draw at home against U.A.G.
A 53rd-minute red card reduced Santos to 10 men, but the club still took the lead with 20 minutes to play through Carlos Quintero before the equalizer arrived four minutes from time courtesy of U.A.G.'s Fredy Bareiro.
Saturday also saw Jaguares notch a 3-2 win at San Luis as Luis Rey scored the winning goal in the 82nd minute despite Jaguares playing with 10 men, while Tijuana netted two goals in the opening 20 minutes of a 2-1 victory over Atlante.
On Sunday Puebla came from a goal down to beat Toluca, 2-1, Felix Borja's goal in the 79th minute was enough for Pachuca to claim a 1-0 win at UNAM, Queretaro snatched a 2-1 triumph at Cruz Azul after Efrain Cortes netted the winner in stoppage time and America grabbed a 1-0 win at Guadalajara after Paul Aguilar scored in the 85th minute.
The lone contest on Friday ended 0-0 between Morelia and Atlas.
