Guadalajara continues surge in Clausura
Guadalajara, Mexico (Sports Network) - Omar Arellano and Hector Reynoso scored as Guadalajara downed Toluca, 2-0, on Saturday for its fourth victory during a six-game unbeaten streak in Mexico's Clausura.
Guadalajara lost five of six, with a draw in the other match, to start off the season, but a 0-0 draw against San Luis on Feb. 18 started its unbeaten run.
Since its first win of the season on Feb. 26 against Santos, which currently leads the standings, Guadalajara has added three more wins in its last four.
Arellano staked Guadalajara to an early lead against Toluca with a 24th-minute goal and Reynoso scored from the penalty spot in the 62nd to lift their side to 11th in the table.
Toluca lost for the second time in its last four, and is eighth.
Juan Rodriguez and Herculez Gomez scored on Saturday as Santos stayed atop the table with a 2-0 win over nine-man Queretaro.
Morelia maintained pace with Santos and is even on 26 points in second after a 3-1 win over America on Friday. Miguel Sabah scored the winner for Morelia.
Tigres is third after Emmanuel Cerda and Luca Lobos scored in a 2-0 win over UNAM on Sunday. DaMarcus Beasley scored to give Puebla a 1-1 draw against Cruz Azul in Sunday's other match.
Also Saturday, fourth-place Monterrey rolled to a 4-0 win over U.A.G., Tijuana downed Atlas 2-0 in a fixture that both sides finished with 10 men, and Osvaldo Martinez scored a brace as Atlante edged San Luis, 3-2.
Ricardo Esqueda scored in the 80th minute following a brace from Luis Rey as Jaguares opened the week's action with a 3-2 win over Pachuca.
