America hands Pachuca first Clausura loss
Mexico City, Mexico (Sports Network) - Cristian Benitez scored the lone goal in the 57th minute and America handed Pachuca its first defeat of the Clausura season Sunday, 1-0, at the Estadio Azteca.
Pachuca posted three wins and three draws in its first six games, but the loss denied the club sole possession of first place in the table and left Tigres on the summit on goal differential after seven weeks.
Morelia is even on points with Tigres after Miguel Sabah and Luis Sandoval had late goals in a 2-1 win at Puebla on Sunday, while Carlos Esquivel scored his seventh and eighth goals to lead Toluca to a 3-1 victory over Jaguares in the day's other match.
Tigres maintained the top spot this week despite a 0-0 home draw against Atlas on Saturday, while Aaron Galindo scored in the 81st minute to help Santos to a 1-1 tie against Monterrey that kept it even with Tigres and Morelia on points.
Toluca is fourth on 13 points, and Pachuca and America are both two points off the pace in fifth and sixth, respectively.
Also Saturday, Javier Aquino scored and Cruz Azul tied UNAM 1-1 to escape the weekend as the lone unbeaten (two wins and five draws), Jose Sand and Duvier Riascos scored as Tijuana beat Queretaro 2-0, and Guadalajara remained winless after a 0-0 draw against San Luis.
On Friday, Eduardo Lillingston and Juan Leano scored as U.A.G. downed Atlante, 2-1, for its first win of the season.
