PSV falters at Heerenveen

Heerenveen, Netherlands (Sports Network) - PSV Eindhoven lost for the second time in three games on Saturday, falling 2-1 at Heerenveen.

PSV entered the weekend with a two-point lead on second-place Ajax at the top of the Eredivisie, but the defeat now means that the Amsterdam side can take over first place with a victory over Zwolle on Sunday.

The hosts jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half as Marten de Roon found the net for Heerenveen after eight minutes, while Yassine El Ghanassy doubled the advantage before the break.

Kevin Strootman brought PSV back to within a goal when he scored 15 minutes from time, but the visitors were unable to produce an equalizer and now find themselves in danger of falling from the top spot.

AZ Alkmaar is one point clear of the bottom three after a 1-1 draw with Den Haag that saw Viktor Elm net the equalizer for AZ in the 25th minute after an early goal from Den Haag's Mike van Duinen.

Heracles held on for a 1-0 triumph over NEC as Everton scored in the 58th minute, although a red card to Thomas Bruns nine minutes later left Heracles to play out the remainder of the contest with 10 men.

Willem II remains in last place but the club collected its third win of the season by topping second-from-the-bottom Venlo, 1-0, thanks to an 89th-minute goal from Danny Guijt.
