First-ever U.S. women's ski jumping team revealed
Park City, UT (SportsNetwork.com) - The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association unveiled their ski jumping roster for the 2014 Winter Olympics on Wednesday.
The Olympic games in Sochi marks the first time that women will be able to compete in the ski jumping event at the Olympic level.
Lindsey Van, Sarah Hendrickson and Jessica Jerome make up the historic squad. Hendrickson will make her return to the snow after suffering a torn ACL and MCL in her right knee on Aug. 21.
"This inaugural event is more than just three medals at an Olympic Winter Games," said women's ski jumping head coach Alan Alborn. "It is historic and a legacy that we hope will inspire more young women to engage in sport and have it be part of their lives and their family's lives.
Nick Fairall, winner of the Olympic Trials on Dec. 29, headlines an experienced men's team that includes Nick Alexander, Peter Frenette and Anders Johnson.
