U.S. selects cross country ski team for Sochi

Park City, UT (SportsNetwork.com) - World champions Kikkan Randall and Jessie Diggins will head the team of 14 cross country athletes selected by the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association to participate in the Sochi Olympics.

Randall, a two-time World Cup sprint champion, is considered a favorite in her fourth Olympics.

"We have a unique opportunity to make history in Sochi," said Chris Grover, head cross country coach. "Our team speaks to years of dedication, experience and hard work with veterans setting the stage to turn that work into great results."

The men's cross country squad will include Erik Bjornsen, Brian Gregg, Kris Freeman, Simi Hamilton, Noah Hoffman, Torin Koos, and Andy Newell.

Sadie Bjornsen, Holly Brooks, Sophie Caldwell, Ida Sargent, and Liz Stephen were selected to join Randall and Diggins on the women's team.

"Additionally, our younger athletes are fighting for results and have shown that they have earned their spots on this team," Grover continued. "We're ready for the challenge ahead."

The team contains seven players with Olympic experience.
